It's a bit cr*p that straight away VAT is applied to all purchases of silver coin and bullion bars in The UK. Not the same for the other stuff.

I’ve been buying gold and silver coins for about 40 years now…as a hobby but also as an investment as I have never sold them…If the money was in the bank firstly it would actually lose value and secondly I would spend it…so it’s the only way that I can save and if pass on soon it will go to my only son that will give him a good start in what ever venture he chooses
I bought 10 gold coins recently. Haven’t seen them as yet as they are in storage. I’m still wondering if they are worth what I paid for them 2 years ago! Yikes!! This is what puts off most of us ‘normal’ people. We understand broken old gold chains being worth scrap but buying coins? Anyways … it’s done now lol

In Britain or the UK there may not be a capital gains tax on precious metals. In America the United States internal revenue service Does charge you with capital gains tax.
The government could change their tax regulations at the drop of a hat.
Could, might, but haven't and it is still safer than fiat.
Capital gains is charged on bullion in the U.K. but not on coins … that’s my understanding anyways!
Coins minted by the Royal Mint are exempt from CGT, but precious metals as a whole aren't.

My belief was that there's no capital gains tax on minted coins but there is on bullion ?
Coins exempt because they're legal tender, bars are not legal tender so pay CGT as an asset.

I have won the 1oz silver coin and Royal Mail as asked me for £5 postage , I am not paying as I think its a scam .I have not seen the package but they sent me a text saying I had won it ,I have to pay at my local post office .

Gold is a better hedge but I'll take it.
Silver just might turn out to be a better investment over the next few years - 'already-mined' resources are dwindling, and the amount 'in reserve' is still in the ground. Also, silver is not as aggressively re-cycled as gold but is a likely candidate to replace some of the rare elements in future battery developments. Minted Silver is still about 50% higher than true bullion values though, so do your research before spending.

Hi everyone, respect from Lithuania, it just find all that silver theme,but i like it very much,because i think silver are at optimal value.I think that gold is slightly to expensive,let,s say haircut in Lithuania cost aprox.15euros,and that is about 1/6th gramm of gold value,and you probably can,t cut that amount precisely and silver,lets say in coins ,cost about 1euro for 1gramm,and coins are usualy one ounce and costs less than 30 euros(in Lithuania)
