  • The new Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) that opened its doors in Cape Town, South Africa, in September 2017. The museum features over one hundred galleries that are dedicated to a permanent collection; temporary exhibitions; and Centers for Art Education, Curatorial Excellence, Performative Practice, Photography, the Moving Image, and the Costume Institute.
    In this video, we speak with Azu Nwagbogu, Curator at Large for Photography at the Zeitz MOCAA's Centre for Photography. Azu Nwagbogu talks about his role at the Zeitz MOCAA's Centre for Photography, the importance of photography in Africa, upcoming exhibitions, and his personal background.
    Azu Nwagbogu lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria. He is the founder and director of the African Artists’ Foundation (AAF), a non-profit organization based in Lagos, Nigeria, and dedicated to the promotion and development of contemporary African arts and artists. In 2008, Nwagbogu founded the National Art Competition, an annual arts competition in Nigeria that provides a platform of exposure to emerging Nigerian artists. Azu Nwagbogu is also founder and director of the Lagos Photo Festival, an annual international arts festival of photography, which brings leading local and international photographers into dialogue with multifaceted stories of Africa.
