I’m starting over. When my kids were all growing up I canned all the time. After my divorce at 50 I bought my first home by myself and I’m buying canning jars and water bath canner back. My grandson helps me garden. I’m 74 and told my grandson I wanted to make ketchup next. Thanks for showing me how to make it easier.
I love your recipes! Thank you so much for sharing all the canning/recipe ideas. My bestie and I are new to canning. Her husband has recently been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. I am able to pull your recipes, can with her for an afternoon, take her mind off all the bad stuff. Pls keep sharing! I appreciate the difference you’re making in our day to day!
I love how you deal with "feeling overwhelmed and getting to a better place" when your garden is producing an over abundance . It's awesome to get the how-to video and a life lesson at the same time. I have never made ketchup before thinking I would have to cook all the tomato juice forever to get it thickened up. Your version using tomato juice, paste, Mrs. Wage's mix and honey is exactly what I need! Thank you, Rachel!! And God bless all the Canuary contributors!
What a great video! Never thought ketchup would be so easy to make. This looks like it would be delicious on top of a meatloaf! My favorite meal!! Thank you.
I made it! I canned up 6 pints last night, after receiving my Mrs Wages and steam canner. I used 3 quarts of tomatoes that were getting a bit old to keep on the shelf. I did use the sugar. I tasted it just before putting it into the jars and dang!!!!! It is SO, SO good. I am going to try the honey version as well. The steam canner was so easy compared to water bath! Thank you so very much Rachel.
Hi Rachel! When I spent summers with my grandmother she ALWAYS had an abundance of tomatoes . I think we must have canned a hundred quarts of tomatoes in every way possible. Funny story- we were exhausted of canning everything their 2 acre garden provided- especially burnt out with tomatoes. My grandpa brought in 1 last #3 washtub of tomatoes and promised that was all for the season. My grandmother thanked him then she proceeded to carry that washtub full of tomatoes and dumped them in the large compost bin. 😂 she came back into the house laughing and yelled ‘hallelujah’! I was never so happy that summer and learned there are ways to handle stress with grace and humor. Oh, and then close to hundred tomato plants sprung up in the compost bin with the promise to have another prosperous tomato harvest again. 😁 Thank you Rachel , Leisa and 4 Jars for all of your work to make Canuary 2024 a success! I LOVE CANUARY!
The sounds of the lids popping is my favorite sound when canning. I have never canned ketchup, but I will because I have tomato sauce in my pantry. Thank you for participating in Canuary. Thank you Suttons Daze and Forjars for sponsoring Canuary 2024.
Appreciate your reminder about just canning up the plain tomatoes to not get overwhelmed, and then can turn them into separate products later when there is more time and/or need. Really great! Love idea of using honey instead of white sugar. Thank you for sharing this recipe, and really love this collaboration. The cute pop graphics at the end, love them!
These Canuary video's over the last couple of years actually gave me the courage to start canning. I grew up with a mom who barely knew how to cook and her only food preservation tool was a freezer. I always dreamed of having a large garden and being able to stock a pantry from that garden. 4 years ago we bought a small piece of land in Idaho and today I have my own pantry. This collaborative has helped so many of us create basic food security for our families, thank you so much Rachel for being such an inspiration
Thank you Rachel for the catsup recipe as it is so much healthier than what is offered in the grocery store. Thank you Leisa and For Jars for sponsoring Canuary. It has been inspiring. Julia
I certainly relate to the end of garden season and being a bit burned out on canning. Sure is nice to be able to upscale them into something new and really have time to enjoy (and share) something new. Thanks for being on this collaboration list for Canuary 2024
I'm so glad that I found all the canuary videos. Everyone has been so helpful in helping us newbies. This gardening season will be so exciting. Thank. You all.
Thank you Rachel for the ketchup canning video! I LOVE the fact that you made this with honey… any opportunity to reduce white sugar is a win for us! I also appreciate the reminder to take our new canning ideas into consideration in our garden planning! It is that time again.
I made a lot of ketchup for the first time last year using Mrs. Wages and we love it! Like you, I also added extra tomato paste to thicken my ketchup so I didn't have to reduce the tomatoes too much. My grandkids told me the homemade ketchup tastes better than the store ketchup too! I loved your suggestion of using honey instead of the sugar. I will be trying that trick when I make the ketchup again as I think it's important to reduce the granulated sugar intake too. Thank you for sharing this canning project. I love adding homemade sauces to my pantry that can be used to make a variety of meals. Thank you for participating in Canuary 2024 and thank you to ForJars for your sponsorship and your awesome lids and thank you to Leisa Sutton at Suttons Daze for making this collaboration happen!
My Mom used to can ketchup way back when! I never cared for it but I didn't know Mrs, Wages made a ketchup pack. I will definitely try this as I have liked the products I have made from Mrs Wage! I love your videos and have referred to them alot..thank you Rachel and also anyone involved in this collaboration.
I look forward to every 'That 1870's Homestead' video! Rachel, it is awesome that you are one of the participants of Canuary 2024. I've had the "Mrs Wages Home Canning guide & recipes" book for years and have yet to make any of the recipes from it. Now I'm really glad that I have it because I wrote notes from this video in the margins on the page this recipe is printed (page 36)! Thanks to all of this year's participants!
Love Mrs Wages and glad to see someone use there products...no shame in my game they are a great timesaver and there line makes a very consistant product. Thank you and the other collaborators for all you do for our canning community.
I bought myself a steam canner this summer. Wow, I really appreciate how much quicker it gets to temp and can start timing the process. Will have to try doing some ketchup now. Thank you for all your videos, I continue to learn a lot.
I hope we have a big harvest of tomatoes this year. We go through so much ketchup. My kids put ketchup on their ketchup. Going too look for the packets when I finally go to the store. Might cheat a bit and buy the canned tomato sauce to just try it out. Thanks to you all for putting this collaboration together! Good luck to everyone !!
I am new to canning, I am definitely going to be trying this one. For the past 8 month's my family and I have had bumps in the road with my health. I don't just want, I need to step it up for this year's ahead. I do lots in my gardening but this year didn't happen for me and I have missed it. This year my kiddos will be helping me to get it done, God willing. 🙏 I love watching you guys, and I am ready to go full steam ahead with my canning for health, "new healthy living." From your playlist of RUclips family, I watch a few but looking forward to watching the ones I haven't seen yet. God bless and be safe 🙏 ❤️
I love to see folks using the steam canner. I purchased one not that long ago but never feel comfortable using anything new until I see lots of videos to build my confidence. Thanks!
Thank you for showing us how to use a steam canner! I'm glad to know you can basically "re-can" things, too! I appreciate you taking the time to share these things with us.
I don't use much Katchup but the grandkids do, I can make enough for them to have on their shelf saving them some money and the the joy of canning it! thanks for participating in this wonderful collaboration.
I found out also Mrs. Wages is the best way to make ketchup. Busy farmwifes and homesteads need to have some short cuts to get all our canning done. Great Canuary!
Thank you Rachel for such a great addition to Canuary! I’ve never canned ketchup before or used Mrs. Wages, so this was encouraging…love all the tips. This collaboration is so much fun. I appreciate Leisa at Suttonsdaze and For Jars for sponsoring this!
In HS I had a friend who canned ketchup and said "never again" as she had splashes all over her kitchen so I have never tried. Well you have changed my mind. Thank you for participating in this collaboration. You are awesome and so knowledgeable. Thanks to Leisa and Formats for hosting this series. Blessings
Thanks for this recipe Rachel. Nice to have you back, have missed you and Todd in the kitchen. Thank you also to Leisa and Forjars for sponsoring this collaboration.
Mrs. Rachel, I cannot THANK you enoufh for a different Ketchup! I hace made several and they're just "good"; but, none have been "GREAT"! I will be trying this one, today! THANK YOU for sharing
For a long time I have wanted to can condiments, but have put off trying to do that. Now that I see how easy it is to do, I will make some this summer. The variety of recipes that all of you are sharing with us is awesome. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these videos. And thanks to Leisa for heading this project up each year.
Rachel you are the go to for "let's put this up however we can because there is an abundance so we can figure out what to make/can in the winter slow season". I love these videos! Thank you!
You always have the best instructions & such a clear voice. Thankyou for Canuary plus Leisa & Forjars. Got to tell you, your hair is so pretty. Be blessed 🙌
Happy Canuary, everyone! Thank you for doing this video and being a part of this collaboration. I look forward to Canuary every year and to trying this recipe!
I love seeing you using Mrs. Wages. I’ve never used the ketchup. Will definitely do this. How much easier and quicker than using fresh tomatoes. Thank you for being part of Canuary. I love watching this every year. Blessings.
I'm 54 and just now excited about learning the art of canning and baking bread. You all have been great to watch and learn from. Thanks for sharing with us ❤
Rachael, I am so glad you did this recipe as I have been searching for a Ketchup canning recipe also. I am also interested in the steam canner versatility and appreciate so many of the ladies doing these Canuary videos are showing us how to use them.
This is going on my to do list for my garden and canning this year. It looks great! Thank you for participating and sharing this with us and to Suttons Daze and For Jars for sponsoring Canuary.
Thank you for sharing the ketchup recipe. My husband and kids get excited when a new Todd and Rachel recipe shows up in our feed (We use Todd’s sausage Alfredo recipe ALL THE TIME). You both inspire us to be graceful with our aspirations while trying new things and pursuing our passions. It isn’t easy getting out of our comfort zones, but necessary for growth. I don’t can just yet, but getting the motivation and encouragement from all the great Canuary videos. I specifically appreciate the multi-use reference for tomato sauce. I used your recipe for enchilada sauce (with store bought tomato sauce) on a burrito casserole and it was excellent. Can’t wait to try this one out and impress the fam.
This is the first time that I've watched the Canuary videos, and it's inspiring. Lots of variety and I'm glad that they're in my play list so I can go back and watch them again so that I can write down some of the recipes, and print them out to add to my Ball book.
Tomatoes are the "gateway drug" to canning. Once you start, you will be amazed at all of the different foods/condiments that you can easily make. I love homemade ketchup. 😊 and yours looks so easy.
I’m so glad to see that you’re part of this collaboration! I’ve watched your videos for some time now and always enjoy them and learn so much. I’ve started using Mrs. Wage’s as a starter for my salsa and it’s a big hit with my family. I bet they’d love the ketchup as well. I also like the idea of using store bought tomato paste as a thickener. I’ve never made ketchup before, but I think it’ll be fun! Thanks for another great video! 😊
I've tried making ketchup for years and never have gotten quite right. I finally gave up. After watching your video you have inspired me to try again. Hope you keep making great videos. I learn so much!
Nothing better than homemade shelf stable ketchup. I agree, the Mrs wages ketchup is the best. I also enjoy their tomato soup Loving all the Canuary 2024 videos and loving using the ForJars lids. 💕✌️
I so appreciate that you, and several other presenters this year have taken the time and extra care to really break down the basics of the process. I’ve never worked with mangoes but will be doing this one!
Stumbled upon your channel and thankful that I did. Overwhelmed with tomato's last fall and needed ideas on how to process and not lose them. Thank you!
This Canuary collaboration makes making ketchup with Mrs. Wages look easy. I like your use of the canned tomato sauce to make this recipe. The explanation and use of the steam canner is helpful because Leisa is giving one away as well as other prizes. Thank you!
This past summer I had an abundance of Tomatoes even though I got them in the ground late and I never thought to make Ketchup. Ketchup will now be on this summer's list of things to can. Thanks for the great homesteading videos and for being a part of Canuary.
Rachel thank you so much for your contribution to Canuary! I’ve tried a lot of Mrs. Wages seasoning/Canning mixtures but I had no idea they made one for ketchup. I’ve been pleased with any of the other mixtures I’ve tried so far. I think my grand children would drink ketchup through a straw if I would let them.
Thank you Rachel for sharing this recipe, it sounds so good. If I get a good tomato harvest this year I will be canning some of your recipe. And thanks to ForJars for being so generous with the Canuary collaboration ❤️
Glad to know that I'm not alone in that burned out feeling during the canning seasoning. I love homemade catsup. Glad to know about Mrs wages. Enjoy your meatloaf..one of my favorite meals too
I love homemade anything. I have developed several allergies to store bought foods. Watching you has given me hope I don’t have to give up things like ketchup. Thank you so much
Thank you Rachel! This is a great video! I love watching your videos. Family and friends don’t understand why I would be canning in the winter months but I have all of you who do. I’m glad for Canuary !
Hi Rachel it's so good to hear you talk about being overwhelmed in the garden. You're absolutely correct and so realistic. I'm with you on the ketchup I haven't found any that I really liked I will have to try Mrs wages. Thank you again Rachel. Thank you Leisa and for jars for this wonderful opportunity and sponsoring this collaboration.
I love the idea of using honey instead of sugar! Thank you for being a part of Canuary.. I learn a lot from your videos... Thanks to Leisa at Suttons daze and ForJars for sponsoring. This month has gone by really fast. Thanks again!
Came for Canuary, staying for more gardening stuff too! Can't wait for my over-producing tomato plants this summer... I might actually USE them all! LOL
I haven’t made ketchup since my 20’s when I had small children. Once and done back then! I will try this recipe, so much quicker and easier. Thank you Rachel and Leisa
This past summer was my first time canning after I helped a friend make homemade jam. I ended up going to a market and they were selling 25 lbs of tomatoes for $5. I bought 150 lbs for $30 dollars but I was never so glad to get them all canned. A lot of work but love having all kind of tomato products ie spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, diced etc. And it all tastes so good
I so understand the end of season gardening crash. After watching this video I am going to watch a bunch of your tomato videos...I am changing my plan for my garden as I watch this. So many things to learn and do. Thanks
Great minds think alike! I actually canned ketchup the same day you made this video! I absolutely love your channel. Thanks for participating this year, and thank you Leisa and ForJars!!!
I've been thinking about making our own ketchup for awhile now. I often say ketchup is at its heart chutney. The history of ketchup is fascinating. It's commonly one of the first strong flavors introduced to infants. Which is why adding ketchup when introducing new foods to picky toddlers often works. Almost like somewhere deep inside us we believe "ketchup fixes everything." 😉
I’m starting over. When my kids were all growing up I canned all the time. After my divorce at 50 I bought my first home by myself and I’m buying canning jars and water bath canner back. Love Mrs Wages I want to make Spicey ketchup.

I really appreciate that you incorporate honey in place of sugar in so many recipes! So much better for us!!
This is the first time that I've watched the Canuary videos, and it's inspiring. Lots of variety and I'm glad that they're in my play list so I can go back and watch them again so that I can write down some of the recipes, and print them out to add to my Ball book.

I love homemade anything. I have developed several allergies to store bought foods. Watching you has given me hope I don’t have to give up things like ketchup. Thank you so much
I love hearing the ping. I'm new to Mrs. Wages and didn't realize she had a Ketchup recipe. I love the steam canner. 👍
Can't wait to get this on the shelves instead of buying it at the store. Feels like we were in the kitchen with you. Thanks Rachel!
Thank you for such great teaching and being transparent (unlike a lot of social media personalities)
Rachel, I always enjoy watching you. This is a project I've never tried. Thank you for showing us how.
Thank you Rachel! This is a great video! I love watching your videos. Family and friends don’t understand why I would be canning in the winter months but I have all of you who do. I’m glad for Canuary !
I love canuary! This is my first time, and freezing some fruits and veggies from the summer saved my sanity.
I love the Canuary collaboration!!! Thanks Leisa Sutton and ForJars for doing this collaboration. Home made ketchup made with Mrs. wages Yum!
Love me some "That 1870s Homestead" every...single...time! Thanks for sharing, Rachel.
Happy Canuary 🎉 Yep, using tomato paste to thicken sauces is smart 😊
I love Mrs. Wages!!
I've learned so much this month watching all the canuary videos! Definitely going to be canning a whole lot more this year.
I love the wide variety of recipes this Canuary.
I love that i can use already existing tomato products I have! The amount of money this will save our family!
Came for Canuary, staying for more gardening stuff too! Can't wait for my over-producing tomato plants this summer... I might actually USE them all! LOL
My favorite way to can tomatoes is diced and sauce for use later in other recipes, it makes life so much easier!
I haven’t made ketchup since my 20’s when I had small children. Once and done back then! I will try this recipe, so much quicker and easier. Thank you Rachel and Leisa
Rachel, Thank you for participating in Canuary 2024 and sharing this fabulous recipe!! I can not wait to try to make my own ketchup! ❤
Thanks
Love watching you and Todd. Thank you for being a part of the Canuary. Need to try this because I don't like store bought ketchup. Thank you.
I love Mrs. Wages!
New to canning this year but watched my mom for more years than I could remember. I’ve learned I can can so many more things then she had always done.
