Former Dallas Mavericks center Shawn Bradley was paralyzed after an accident riding his bicycle in January. The 7’6” former number 2 pick is recovering at his home in Utah but his life will probably never be the same. This video tells Bradley’s story to explain the potential silver lining in the midst of tragedy.

Met him a couple times in Orlando and was not expecting him to be as friendly and genuinely nice as he was. A kid about 8 to 10 years old was trying so hard to get autographs from Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash,and Michael Finley Shawn had signed an autograph for him but before going into the locker room he saw hiw upset the kid was. Those other players had walked by and ignored or just didn't see the kid. Shawn asked the kid why he was so upset and the kid told him, Shawn ask to see the poster the kid had and took it into the locker room and about 15 minutes later comes back out with the poster signed by every single player and coach. A little while later thenplayers came out of the locker room all asking to meet the kid and took some time to sign autographs! I think it really did bother him that other players ignored the kids wanting autographs or any kind of interaction with a player. But he made that kids day and everyone else that got an autograph thanks to Shawn! Its not much but it is more than any other player would have done and it changed how every one of us who were there looked at Shawn Bradley!
I met him once also. Same experience, really nice guy. I met the wife and all the kids too, all 7 or 8 of them lol.

Lol I never watched him play bc i'm too young but I remember him in space jam and playing as the all time mavs with him in 2k and my dad saw him at six flags once.

As a man who has been hit by two cars while riding my bike this makes me hella thankful I can still ride. (I ride an electric bicycle year round in a busy and alcoholic heavy city)

I also served an lds mission to Australia.(although 20 years after he served). People still talked about meeting him and his height. Good guy.

I saw Shawn B at an NCAA tournament game in Salt Lake City about 4 yrs ago, and asked him if I could have a picture with him. He said yes without hesitation. CLASS ACT.
Thank you for doing this video. He lives in my parents neighborhood and I think you hit the nail on the head. He really is a good guy all together and I know it is a very challenging situation for his family from what I hear.

Wow didn’t know any of that about Bradley except for him getting dunked on, my brother and I would always laugh at his reaction it was always like “Whatever”🤣 but our faith can carry us further than our physical bodies can take us. Those who are able to bring the greatest comfort to others are often the ones who have suffered the most themselves. The invisible sky wizard can’t fix that. If science can find a way to reverse that before he dies he might have a shot, but otherwise his fate is sealed. What do you say about god putting him in that wheelchair in the first place? The old “god works in mysterious ways” cop out? You’d think he’d put a heathenous non-believer like me in that chair, not a highly devoted Mormon.

I have no fear of the wrath of a god that doesn’t exist or being judged and sent to a hell that also doesn’t exist. These are old myths created by man thousands of years ago. I don’t waste a second of my life worrying about what happens after I die just like I haven’t spent a second thinking about all the time that passed before I was born. It’s a huge waste of time.

My dad went to high school with his ex-wife and I actually saw him at one of the reunions when I was little (I wish I had the courage to try to talk to him since he seems like a great guy). I wish him nothing but the best for his recovery! 🙏🏼

He had the passion for basketball. Heartbreaking knews. Mindlblowing that nearly the same happened to another all time great tall shot blocker, Mark Eaton.
He may have been dunked on many times, but he dunked on many himself and blocked a lot of dunks. He came out on top.
He is the type of guy you can’t hate. Even if you disagree with his faith (I’m not Mormon at all) that’s the type of guy you have to respect. Type of guy that would treat you like a brother and not like an inferior person for not sharing the faith.
Shawn came to dinner at my grandmother's house in Australia when I was a kid and I have a photo of him with his hands on our heads as 3ft kids. Really nice guy.

When he was 14 he visited his aunt at my middle school. He came into the gym I was the only one in there. He was 7'4 at 15 he broke the backboard and we both stood there for a second and said ahhh my dad's going to murder me it's not my first time. It's coming out of my allowance. The principal came in a few minutes afterwards and i told the principal it was me. I was 5 ft. He didn't buy it.

He sounds like a great guy and I hope that this horrible accident doesn't ruin his life. From what I can gather, it won't. As a side note, he was no bust. He was actually a fairly good professional basketball player and under-rated.
I like this man's value system. Of course he's been right all along, but it takes immense strength of character to hold on to one's beliefs while being assaulted by temptations that money bring along.

I played bcba and we went to a Nets game. I snuck from the top seats and got to the floor. I got close to Shawn and begged for his towel lol. He threw it to me, with a puzzled face lol. I was so happy. I was waving it around like a helicopter lmao. Thanks Shawn. Get well soon please! I'm so sorry.

I loved Shawn Bradley as a Sixers fan. The then owner Harold Katz encouraged the infamous Philly press to go in on him as motivation. It backfired and he was shipped out of town. I always rooted for him wherever he played but I am rooting for him now more than ever.
