I'm very proud to see that this billion-dollar project Konkan Railway is a creation of my grandfather and his dedicated team and also others engineers and railway staff. It's India's most costly Railway project till now.
EMD is capable to haul 200km/Hr .....But tracks are not compatible......EMD WDP4D hauled Talgo train with the speed of 180Km/Hr during testing from Delhi to Mumbai.

Konkan Railway took more than 30 years to complete, It was a time when we used to travel from #Ahmedabad to #Goa via Roha >>> Kurduwadi >>> Miraj >>> Belgaum >>> Madgaon. There were no stations such as Karmali or Kudal. It used to take more than 36 hours in 1995-2000. Now it is hardly 13 hours! Travel time will drastically reduce once it starts using WAPs.
The old route to Goa wouldn't have crossed Kurduwadi, you would have taken the Miraj line from Pune itself right? And coming from Ahmedabad side, you would have changed trains at Kalyan or Pune, Roha would have been an unnecessary detour.
My father was from Railways...and my favorite mode of transport even today is the IR. I have travelled Delhi/Goa/Delhi mostly by this Rajdhani...its an amazing journey..thanks for sharing .

Until the 80s, if we had to take a train from Vasco / Madgaon to Agra (or Delhi), we had to take a train to Miraj (metre gauge), then from Miraj to Pune and finally the Jhelum express from Pune to Agra. Once the train from Miraj to Pune was late, and we could only take the next day's Jhelum express - in the general category during the summer!! Things got better when Goa express was introduced in 1990 or 1991. We had to just change trains from metre guage to broad guage in Miraj. The compartment and berth numbers remained the same in the next train which had the same name and train number - Goa express. But the type of berth could differ. E.g., if you had berth number 12 in a sleeper coach, you would be allotted an upper berth in a metre guage coach but it would be a lower berth in a broad guage coach! In those days, there was only sleeper and first class. No AC coaches. In the mid 90s, Konkan railway construction started and there were no train journeys we could make from Goa. We had to catch Goa express from Hubli after a 4-5 hour road journey there. Once Konkan Railways started operations in the late 90s, we could now take Mangala Express to reach Agra/Delhi. Goa express also resumed operations from Goa, this time a direct train from Vasco da Gama to Delhi.
During 2012 to 2015 i travelled this route many times from Delhi to Trivandrum on quarterly basis. That time elec loco changed at Vadodara and Mudgaon Rajdhani not introduced. Journey was so nice in Konkan Rly.
Brother - you need to be careful with /in these trains. The speed at which they travel and you stand near the door + capture the portrait of the journey, is a bit scary. Please be careful.

To all the diesel engine lovers, don't lose hope because Diesel engines will not be phased out totally, they will be replaced with electric locos gradually. So Diesel engines will be seen in future also on this route.

That's not Traditional Coach. It's Inspection Car of KR. There is no Traditional Coach left in IR or KR.
