- A single mother and her 6 children move to Baja California to seek a new way of life.
This documentary was filmed on the southern outskirts of San Felipe, Baja California and Carson City & Dayton, Nevada, in 1973.
It was filmed using a handheld Bolex 16 mm camera, with 50 ft. film loads .
My bus was a 1959 VW.
740 miles driven from Mill Valley to San Felipe - each way x 2 trips (2960 miles total) and then Mill Valley to Carson City (Carson High School) & Dayton, NV (where they lived) - 230 miles each way.
Total miles driven was over 3420 mi. ( 2 round trip to Baja and one round trip to NV)
The sound was a wild track done on an 1967 Akai reel to reel tape machine .
Editing was old school with a hot splicer and 16mm Kodak film & 16mm 3M magnetic tape.
Sounds were a compilation of sound effects re-recorded from a 78 sound effects LP and distorted several times on tape, then transferred to the mag tape.
