So, I was 17 years old when this originally aired and had been a profound Nanci Griffith fan for at least 50 years already 😂 Nanci’s songs are the soundtrack to my childhood, and are in the background of every important memory I have growing up, because of my mom. (And, I thank her “kindly” for that.) THIS DAY, I begged my mom to let me stay home from school (my senior year of high school) to watch this episode of “Rosie” because I didn’t trust the VCR’s timed recording setting anymore, and I COULDN’T POSSIBLY have been expected to miss this for any reason. Nanci on daytime television was very rare, though it shouldn’t have been. It’s such a ridiculous request, but my mom obliged, because she’s awesome.
It was every bit as exciting as I expected it to be, and I will never regret it.
But, here we are, more than 20 years later, and I can pick up my phone, open the RUclips app, and watch it whenever I want to, wherever I want to, as many times as I want to. I can’t even begin to imagine how to have explained to 17 year old me, thinking I was badass with my little blue “beeper,” that someday I’d be glued to a device that I could use to make a phone call, send a text message, take a picture & edit it, then text it to someone….and I’d be able to use it to see this clip anytime, anywhere.
Rest gently, Nanci. You were more than we deserved. I’m forever grateful.

Such a great performance and band but, even more amazing when knowing that Nancy had just overcome breast cancer at this point and was about a year away from being diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She barely took time away from touring to heal from the former.

A song with a sparkling and carefree music, with easy rhymes to listen to, but a brilliant song full of meanings and not absolutely trivial.
In this song there is a disarming irony - behind the sparkling aspect of the song - and as Nanci interprets, as the voice uses, it gives a strong ironic sense.
"This life is full of days not spent" It's great!
And then..."Oh, but everything is coming up roses"
    And "when I push daisies..."
There is so much irony and many meanings....
But everyone always wants roses, roses every day, everyone asks for roses, roses in any case and the roses will come...
    Every day...every day...buy a dozen...every day
But look what a mimic in the face, oh she is extraordinary... And what an innocent and amazed look between Nanci at 1.15 and 1.20....
Nanci in every moment is wonderful and extraordinary!

You know, Franco, I wasn't as big a fan as you of this time when to me, Nanci sort of overdid the facial expressions, the big eyed innocence, the accent-- it just felt a bit odd to me. But I understand what you are saying. I just didn't find it as magical as you ;-).

Magic and grasping irony, you often grasp them immediately, Debra; it is useless then climb up looking for this or that...the emotions and sensations either arrive immediately at the first vision, or they will hardly be in you..
