Some info on the Silver Machines played by Dave and George:
1. In the Silver Machine video Dave is playing an actual 1927 National Steel ukulele.
en.wikipedia.o...
Production of these ceased in 1941.
The UOGB were invited to visit the factory in San Luis Obispo, California during one of our tours, where National Resophonic Steel Guitars are once again made today.

2. In the video George is playing a custom made ukulele with a huge reflector which is made from stainless steel. It was designed by Johnny Jonas, the artist and inventor specifically for George.

en.wikipedia.o...
It has been used now and then for special shows.
It was featured in the Ukulele Orchestra’s appearance on the Stefan Raab show: “TV Total” on German TV in 2013.

Stefan used to do a challenge riding down toboggan runs in a wok, so it seemed an appropriate instrument for us to get him to play as he jammed with us.
3. Our old friend Steve Evans, who was in bands in Leeds with Kitty before he returned to New Zealand making Beltona ukuleles. He’s now back in the UK and has manufactured, among other things, resonator silver ukuleles, somewhat in the style of national steel instruments.

Peter has had a silver Beltona ukulele for years and lent it to Tiny Tim at Tiny’s request for Tiny’s concert at the Union Chapel in London in 1995 which Peter and George attended.

Well done! A jolly fine performance....Thoroughly enjoyed it! (Dave Brock, Hawkwind)
Pleased you enjoyed it, we definitely enjoy performing it. Great song!
@@UkuleleOrchestra if
Hawkwind hQ seen you perform this many a time reckon lemmy would be proud of this version
@@stewartsmart5481 Dave & lemmy were great friends ,they had a sync musically you rarely find in life.
Let’s all appreciate the pure majesty of a man wearing full black tie playing the ukulele on a moving ride-own lawn mower.
Ukulele, the instrument you can play anywhere. Disclaimer: Ukulele playing while driving a lawnmower should only be undertaken by professionals ;) Or possibly not at all!
@@UkuleleOrchestra You are a professional lawn mower?

Not the sort of thing you tend to see everyday
I Love this well done guys and Lasses yet another ingenious video
Every week I think "They can't possibly top this."
Every week I'm wrong. 👍.
Thank you! I am a soon to be (6/11) 81 year old man and stuck in my home because of concerns about the darn virus. Your posts help to lighten my days.
Congratulations, (in advance), on your Natal Anniversary! I pray it will be filled with Happiness~Hope~Fun~Joy~And the expressions of Love from those you Love. Cheers!
Hope you have a good one William! Humour and music.....all the best to you on the 11th!
The world is a happier place with the UOGB in it.
You lot are totally bonkers!!!
(my kind of people 😍)
Laura Currie needs a raise. To put that many clips together into one video that works.
Brilliant!
haha I think I just need some sleep!
I'm 65, have my dog and then there you guys What more could I ask to get me through this lock down? You are all awesome, beautiful human beings.
I saw Hawkwind at the Paget Rooms in Penarth. This song was about the only song I remember as I got zonked staring at the strobes and woke up later still staring at the strobes! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Hearing the UKOGB doing it years later took me back to a hippy dippy era of fun and frolics; just like uke concerts always are. Thanks for keeping me relatively sane during lock down, but got to leave London to pick up my child in Durham ;) (as any responsible parent would).
Respect for Hester's disco lighting! And of course for George's "Uke" . Happy music!
there's so much creativity, energy and enjoyment in these - the lawnmower is becoming a bit of a star too.
Far out, Man....
My admiration for Dave increases each time I see him in a video. Everyone artist in this group is wonderful, but for me he stands out, just for being the fun guy.
And he can sing like that !
Thanks John Tannon - I like to look my best when gardening!👍🏼
one of my grandads favourite songs was silver machine, this would have made him really happy :)
Hawkwind! Who'd have thought that would work so well! Now where are those mushrooms...
If you watch Will's last play along you'll see those mushrooms make great hats!
As a lifelong Hawkwind fan can I say this is a truly epic performance. Dave brock and Robert Calvert would be very proud of this tribute. Made me laugh out loud and I particularly love the whooshing noises. 10/10 for effort chaps!
Thank you! It is a fantastic song and we love performing it.
The first time I saw UOGB (more years ago than I care to remember) was in Bury St. Edmunds... this was the opening track. I'd persuaded some friends to come along, slightly worried what they'd make of the ukes. By halfway through this opener they were hooked!
We hope that we will be able to see you on the road again in the not too distant future.
What great imaginations you have! Always makes me smile.
You Guys and Lasses are the best thing on the web!
Watching these ‘lockdowns’ has made me relax more with my own Uke playing, and like you all - have fun! Thank you!
Great to hear - playing should be fun!
Pure eccentric genius
I love you crazy musicians! One of the real great gifts of this lockdown! You‘re great!
My favorite ukulele band! Lockdown spin-around pick a bale a cotton. Your videos make their own safe havens. From a grateful North American
thanks for putting all the effort into these songs I do enjoy them
Extremly intelligent and delightful music! Actually it was pure chance that a stubled across the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. Usually I prefer Renaissance and Baroque music - Bach, Handel, Monteverdi, Schein, Scheidt, Schütz, Corelli, Sainte-Colombe (uups: seven strings) - and it was the Handel piece that caught my attention. Brilliant - simply brilliant, and of course some reminiscence of the music of my youth. So, to sum it up: intelligent, brilliant, delightful!
I appreciate all the artists who are putting out videos to help us through the lock down, but I haven't enjoyed any of them as much as yours. Thanks for the music!
Awesome just the lift you need each week. The song is great the sound of the group is wonderful then then images of you all being a little ( or more) off the wall. There is so much going on you must watch it a few times to get it ..well the majority of it. Great work again . The first concert when you are all together will be magical. The lucky ones will remember it. I hope its Edinburgh!! Being selfish.. Thanks for the smiles. Keep well and safe.Amacf
The behaviour in the video looks to me, like a little tribute to the band "Hawkwind", celebrating their alternative approach to life and their psychedelic/science fiction stage shows....
Brilliant as always. I love your cover versions. The sea shanty version of pinball wizard is hilarious and genius...
Every time I open RUclips I look forward to this fun band.
Erneut eine gelungene Darstellung, Performance des Ukulele Orchesters of Great Britain! Hoffe sie bald wieder in meiner Nähe Live sehen zukönnen. Bleibt gesund!! Grüße aus der Pfalz.
Wow, all those cool Ukes, 1927 is amazing
This is one of the greatest things to come out of the pandemic. I don’t think I would have heard of Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain withouth these covers. Thank you! Keep up the great work of bringing joy to people and creating incredible impressive covers. (By the way, have you already done ”Smoke on the Water”? 🤘)
Thank you. Glad you managed to find us! No, we haven't... Another tune to add to the list
* Come out of the government restrictions
Guess what I am learning to play -Uke on
Brilliant. What a fantastic idea. Just love it. Keep on rockin'.
Thanks guys an gals for cheering up my day
You guys get better every time, can you do this as well as touring when we are all able to resume normality, you have inspired me to play guitar again and learn the uke. Absolute genius from each and every one.
Brian May learnt uke BEFORE he learnt guitar. It worked out pretty well. :-)
I love you all so much. Thank you for brightening our days!
I think that is Ritchies favourite machine ..its featured in several of his videos ..brilliant
Most enjoyable, and a lot of fun. By the way, Jonty has the largest laundry appliances I’ve ever seen in someone’s house.
Genius ❤️
The effects are simply stunning - Even better than those in Dr. Who
This brought a smile to my face, these people were fantastic this is the most original version of Silver Machine I've heard, thank you for making this old fart smile.
I’m totally gob smacked 😳, but loved it 🥰 great vocals
Great great great. Thanks guys and girls.
Beautiful music and amazing performers... a Honda mower... George playing a trash lid? :)... Killer tune... AMAZING!!!!
in this time of chaos, that made me smile, thank you
I would love to be apart of something like this when I am older. Ukulele is my life. I even have my own channel where I post ukulele covers.
Class Hester riding a child bike like a Harley. Superb.
Thank you for getting me thought lockdown you gave me something to smile and keep my spirits up.
i love you all
"Silver Machine" with a touch of "Hassan I Sahba" (if i'm not mistaken) In the introduction. That really was in the spirit of Hawkwind! Best arrangement i've heard you lot do of this tune. Maybe you should ask Dave Brock to guest on a Uke'.
Marvelous, I look forward to your films very much....it's the only way I know that it's Sunday.
I love what you did. Talented group putting crazy but funny ways to sing and play Silver Machine! Peter, are you playing scarecrow in the field? Sorry Peter...I just can't help but notice.
Abb - Soe - Lootly Brilliant.
Best so far.
When we're finally free of Covid, I hope the Ukes put on a tour which will include these fabulous versions of songs.
Hopefully, by the time it's over, we won't be up to Lockdown Upload 30+. But they DO give us something to look forwards to every week and to wonder what they heck they're going to tackle next.
Great job folks - wonderful. Now where's my silver tinsel . . . ?????
Just had a thought, it would be fascinating to see a Ukementary about how these safely-distanced masterpieces are timed, recorded and then stitched together by Doug and Laura
Most, if not all the music videos they've posted during the lockdown are of songs taken from their recent set list.
@@EnglishMike Thanks for that Mike. I've never yet been able to get to see them live.
Cheers.
I've said it before and I will say it again; I nominate David for the next Doctor Who. Just imagine; Daleks, Cybermen, the Master, the ukuleles!
He would make a fantastic Dr Who!
@@UkuleleOrchestra Yes!, he has the look...
Well, yeah, he could be Jon Petwee's brother.
@@erichammer2751 william Hartnell's younger twin. That makes no sense but you know what I mean....dr who and hawkwind, wonderful!
@@erichammer2751 In actual fact, he has a very close resemblance to my uncle, which just makes the video even more fun. Especially since my uncle never had hair past his collar, even in the 70s!
Super Song, Super Arrangement, Super!
First class my favorite so far.
Great fun. Come to think of it, there is one room in the house with great acoustics....
As a luthier, I’d love a closer look at what George is playing.
Some details now added the video's description.
I'm sure George would let you have a closer look but he's just cooking a Chinese stir-fry with it first.
@@UkuleleOrchestra I thought for just a second there that someone managed to make a uke out of an old bedpan and I thought, well, now I need a uke made out of an old bedpan.
Those are quite similar to musical instruments.
Sweet ride, Richie.
If only he had actually cut the grass at the same time!
Wonderful!!!!! So glad you are doing these videos, so I can listen your awesome orchestra...... ( from the central Oregon coast)
I wish I could vote this up a thousand times.
Brilliant! :) That made my day - best wishes from northern Germany!
Lucky to have visit your konsert in Gävle before the Covid-19 came and locked us in, it was a great performance and your videos are just super. Keep on playing for us :)
Great as usual. Just love what you guys and gals do.
Thank you, thank you, thank you and...thank you. Mahalo all.
Awesome as always. I remember watching this at the proms. Just as good.
Sigh.. such happiness. Thank you, UOGB! ❤🎶🥰xx
You guys can not stop this you made to do this so so BRILLIANT love it. Year since I heard the song. Thank you all the laugh. Lessen get the man out of the hallway, he's needing air. Hahah bye bye
Never knew there is something like a dobro-ukulele?! You're brilliant as always, love it 🙌
I love all of your silver accessories. Best version yet!
Bonkers .... brilliant !! Keep safe
Woohoo, another awesome day now !
Great stuff! And great fun! Came from Hawkwind and now have clicked through good part of your work here. Your are REAL ARTISTS, not allowing any stupid virus to prevent you from being creative ... the opposite. I bet when the virus will see this is will give up its mission. Thank you so much!
Brilliant all round from performance to editing! Thank you all so much .
There are not enough Likes in the known multiverses for this most excellent video. Thanks guys & gals...you made my day.
Over the last 18 months these wonderful clips from UOGB have provided a very welcome escape. (I've found that they also go very well with 'Toyah and Robert's Sunday Lunch'). Thank you :)
Coming back around to visit again. Just as entertaining as before. The sense of humor and creativity matches the musicianship.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!
I watched Hawkwind do this live back whenever. I think that your version is probably better! Thank you again for the creative effort which keeps us entertained and puts a smile on our faces.
Great performance as always! Thanks
All these great videos, it's got me reminiscing on my 6 months in Newmarket, England, starting Oct. 1963 (I was 12, my father was in the USAF, stationed at Lakenheath). Lovely little town, we had a flat in what was the Carlton Hotel on High Street, walked a few blocks, around the roundabout to our bus stop for school, and would throw snowballs and jeer at the Alconbury bus as it went by. :-P We'd rented a TV and watched Fireball XL5. That was a fun show, and I still remembered the lyrics after all these years! Do you think you might ever go to Hilo, Hawaii to perform? The UH Hilo Performing Arts Center and the Palace Theater have had such wonderful performances - and I trust they will continue in the future, soon. How about Oregon? I don't like to go to Portland (don't like really big, crowded cities, or the driving there), but I would go to see you.
Love you guys so much.
We are soooo lucky! 😍❤️
You are a fabulous lot, such energy and fun is much appreciated. Thank you so much for this xx
Awsome job
Merveilleux !!! Du génie
Thanks to you all I now have just bought a Ukulele , loved all your music but to hear Hawkwinds Silver machine a favorite group of mine, brought both a smile and a profound even bigger respect to you all ,brilliant :)
Highly exciting 😀 well done UOGB 🤗😁👍.
Joyous.
Brilliant, endearing, nice and so that folk like these do what they do. Stay safe.
By the washing machine.. LOL..love this one :)
One of the positives of lockdown - finding this channel.
Play this over and over, and never get tired of it.
If somebody's mentioned this, I admit I didn't read all the way down the comments, but nonetheless: look at 2:11 and 2:38 -- did the band know that the song is a tripped-out extension of an absurdist article about riding through space ... on a bicycle -- the titular silver machine? You could look it up! Those shots are instinctive brilliance in addition to the technical/conceptual brilliance of this video.
I'm beginning to run out of superlatives here! Another absolute - and unexpected - gem!
Theres no end to their talent long live the ukulele orchestra.
Loving all these lockdown releases ....best free album on the planet ..... kinda would love a to hear a reggae or ska cover, but also an upbeat cover of Mr Blue Sky would be coool
Love it!! You guys and gals are awesome, and I love the bits of humor! Thank you!
In my humble opinion, a very creative, unique and entertaining tribute to a great piece of music and Hawkwind by a group of very talented musicians.
UOGB always brilliant - but full marks for the audio and video edits of these pandemic wonders!
Very very awesome!
