I loved the ending in the book; it wasn't just the students who fought the death eaters, the townspeople, parents and the house elves from the castle all joined in. There was much more to the ending than in the movie.

They ended up knocking down many books from nearby shelves and the manager had to plead with them to stop. This also gave Lucius the opportunity to slip Ginny Tom Riddle's diary. In the movie their intense fight was omitted and the two just stared down at each other while trading barbs. EDIT: Also in Chamber of Secrets, when Ron and Harry were disguised as Crabb and Goyle, they pretended to not remember the password as they went to the Slytherin common room, which was "Purebloods". And during their conversation they discussed where their fathers kept their dark magic artifacts which are contraband. Ron later gives this information to his dad who promptly confiscates Lucius's collection.
HP movies are piece of cake comparing to books. It'd be good if they made it 200+ series with all elementary details in books. But yeah it's still great film
I was also thinking about an tv show for Harry Potter but can honestly not imagine what they could do in every episode for 40 minutes. Guess it could also be just one season 10 episodes and 1 season=1 movie but u don’t know if you can make that many important things into a series. Maybe yes, maybe not
#7 - Also, Harry uses the Elder Wand to repair his own wand before returning it to Dumbledore's grave. That's another pretty important detail. In the movie version of the HP universe, presumably he keeps using Draco's old wand, or maybe he returns that and gets Ollivander to make him another wand like he did with Luna? Might be something on Pottermore about that, I dunno. #8 - Cho also defends Marietta, even though her supposed friend sold out Cho too in the process. It's yet another reason why Harry and Cho fail to work out. #9 - Not only did the skip the Quidditch World Cup which had the spectacle of the Veela featured as the Bulgarian mascots (presumably Veela are native to Bulgaria, or at least are prominent there), but there was the whole bit with Fleur's father and half-Veela mother who come to help with the wedding arrangements. That's a pretty big aside to have cut out. I recall that he lore is that Veela are actually warm and affectionate sorts, but very passionate, in the sense that they can be quite vindictive when scorned (as they they were by the Irish mascots, the Leprechauns). It's not that unusual for Veela to get into a relationship with a human male and they don't care much about appearance, but more about character. Fleur's father was a charming and friendly sort of fellow but a bit pot-bellied and not particularly good looking, or something to that effect. #10 - That was a great little scene. _"He spat at you."_ Harry is just absolutely _livid_ over such disrespect. Someone, somewhere, pointed out that whilst Mrs. Weasley was the warm, affectionate, and forgiving sort of mother-substitute for Harry, McGonagall was like a mother in the sense that she provided guidance and approval when he did well, and chastised him when he misbehaved, and had a side to her that was warm, caring, and had a bit of humour to it that Harry appreciated. Molly was the open warmth he wanted and needed, and McGonagall was a guide to keep him from getting away with things even if sometimes he was doing the right thing. The embodiments of Love and Respect, if you will. Both have it for and from Harry, but they both are far greater examples of one or the other. #11 - Skeeter is also one of the first hints that The Daily Prophet isn't always a reliable publication. We see this clearly in the 5th book, that it's subject to outside influence, but the fact that they allow Skeeter as a prominent reporter/columnist when any reasonable person can see that she has heavily slanted writing and makes things up when it suits her. Even when she reports things that are essentially true she always chooses to frame it in a way that suggests something awful is going on. Before the 4th book The Daily Prophet is more or less implied to be a good publication that is fairly reliable and quick to find and report on the news. The Evening Prophet managed to report on the mysterious flying car before Harry and Ron even reached the school. That's some quick work, since they'd not only have to have gathered the reports and eyewitness testimony, but been able to add it to the printing before it was actually rushed to production. That shows a high degree of competency. But this apparently competent publication was perfectly willing to let Skeeter write for their paper when any respectable muggle publication wouldn't stand for her tabloid-like shenanigans. They know she sells papers and that matters more to them, in the end. The thing that's absurd is that The Daily Prophet doesn't really seem to have any sort of competition in the UK anyway? If people don't buy their paper they probably either don't care about the paper much anyway, or they go with more obscure or odd publishers like The Quibbler anyway. I supposed in aroundabout way that could explain their willingness to let standards slide in some areas, just to appeal to the tabloid-loving types.
Right that pre duel circling while Harry explained everthing to him would have been pretty cool, I mean a lot of movies seem to like people going in circles with some exposition before they start trying to kill each other
Couldn’t agree more, I’d love to see people like Flitwick (who is a very talented wizard) who was made to look like a coward as his only scene was him running away from a troll at least have a few more scenes of him battling the death eaters.
Exactly! I was disappointed with the final battle. I wanted to see the duel before Fred's death. There was a death eater got turned into a sea urchin, and then a big explosion that killed Fred; that would have been cool to see. I also wanted to see Grawp fight the giant, the biting desks, the attacking plants, the crystal balls being dropped on death eaters, the teachers battling Voldemort, etc.

I had seen movies 1-4 as they came out, but didn't get around to watching 5-8 until my son and I did a Alan Rickman memorial movie marathon. I immediately became obsessed with the series, which led me to read the series. It completed the story for me. I was even able to hear the story in the actors voices in my head while reading it...even if the actor didn't say the line in the movie!
in p.o.a it was crookshanks (yeah the cat) who gave sirius nevilles list of passwords so he could get into the gryffindor common room. it was also crookshanks who paralyzed the whooping willow by pressing on a knob in the tree not by snape who zapped it with a spell

Great list, here are some that I missed when they were not shown in the movies. Myrtle was in the lake and pointed the way to the merpeople village for Harry. No Peeves the poltergeist. The other characters more active roles in the books than the movies, the movies were Golden Trio centric. Florean Fortescue gave Harry free ice cream and helped him with his homework during his stay in Diagon, it makes his death far more tragic than the small mention in the movie. Slytherins dressed dementors during a quidditch game.
I read the books first. Then I saw the films. One of the things about the elder wand that you did not mention was that in the book Harry used it to mend his own wand. Yes, he did return it to Dumbledore‘s grave, but he first use it to mend his own wand. I thought that was a much more powerful ending for the elder wand than what then was portrayed in the film.
I actually think that the movie change there was better. It was a rly meaningful way to 'snap' the power that had caused so much destruction. I love the books but that one change was better imo
One of my favorite book scenes is in Order when Harry and Ginny are chatting in the library about Sirius, eating their Easter eggs, and then getting chased out by the librarian.
Books all the way. Read 1-4 when 4 was released, then 5-7 on first day of release, lining up at 5 am (🇦🇺), booking time off work and not sleeping until I finished them.
I actually knew nothing whatsoever about the series until the close to the time of the release of Goblet of Fire...in 8th grade I changed schools mid year, going from what amounted to homeschooling back to the public system, and I came into the class when my teacher had already started reading Prisoner of Azkaban. I was instantly spellbound. I don't recall what year the first movie was released, but I know it was after the 4th book's release.
What I would have loved to see is Lockharts Valentines Day Event for the students. It is hilarious in the books, but because it is a visual thing it should have been just huge in the movie.
I avidly read the books as they came out, standing in line outside the store with other people in magical garb until midnight when the doors were opened and I could buy the latest installment. I then would stay up all night reading✨I enjoyed the movies but always liked the books better as they were written in such a way that it was very easy to imagine the action and the characters. I liked the casting in the movies though, but if I had to choose only one medium it would definitely be the books.
What nettled me is that they did not show Lord Voldemort thinking back to the night of his down fall after watching Harry and Hermonie escape him at Godricks Hollow. Harry saw into his mind as Lord Voldemort remembered that aweful night and Harry saw everything from Lord Voldemort's perspective. That would have been great to see! This and the final battle in the great hall, watch Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix dual three people at once and the final confrontation between Harry and Lord Voldemort. Still cannot believe they left out Tom Riddle's incredible back story in the 6th film in favour of the romance stuff too! Great video by the way!
So they make an HBO series bullying underage children of the Royal family yet none for an HP series exploring interesting facts and ideas from the books. Typical muggle business tactic.
The biggest thing for me that always sticks out is that all the spells just knock enemies down or away unless it's important for the story! Rictusempra knocks Malfoy down! Stupefy knocks Ron but he gets straight back up. None of the spells do what they are supposed to do so the whole battling system is different. Still love the movies however. Lol! 😂😂

I am not sure the Weasley brothers knew that they were hitting old Voldy. However, I would have loved to hear their reactions had Harry told them where Voldy was stationed when inhabiting Quirrel's body😃.
Not diving much into the discussions Harry and Dumbledore have about the prophecy in The Half Blood Prince. It's one of my favourite part in that book and it shows why Harry is the person who has the best chance of defeating voldemort.
Time for another video on stuff movie watchers don't know - The characters that were portrayed differently from what they were in the books, or straight up character assasination (ahem ginny and ron) and then from there you might as well do a video on the relationship and couples that were also killed (harry ginny) or some that didn't really show at all (remus tonks) heh
I've never agreed with the "love potion" argument. For one thing, Dumbledore always speaks to (and about) Voldy as someone who constantly made bad choices. He would have been the first person to tell Harry not to judge him too harshly, and readers would have had no choice but to feel sorry for the jerk. Pity was never indicated, but "this guy was always bad" was. Also, that the whole "love potion theory" was only Dumbledore's guess. I think Harry's original thought that Merope used the imperius curse made much more sense, as she likely saw her dad and brother use it whenever they got bored or mad. They may have even used it on her! Since no one in the family had formal education, she probably never heard it was "unforgivable" to use.
@@DreadKyller Yes, I know JK is reported to have stated this, but it has been pointed out that what she said was misinterpreted. I'm okay with the possibility that Merope used a love potion on Voldy's dad, but I have never found anything in the books that claims it affects one's ability to love (I don't like quoting post-publication lore when it doesn't make sense) I mean, if that had been a thing, the wizarding world would have made it illegal eons before and included it as an unforgivable.
@@lauramiller4939 Love potion doesn't affect a person's ability to love, but the feelings a person has that is under the love potion, isn't real. No one can force love, that's why Tom left her, he never loved her in the first place.

My issue is people insisting Voldy had no love in him because of the potion. Considering his mom's side of the family were deranged inbreds, that likely played a factor in him choosing to despise love.

I began immersed in Harry Potter through the movies not too long ago, probably last year. Since then, I really grown into a Potterhead. I am now in the process of reading the books which I read until Half-Blood Prince and planning to read the other books like The Tales of Beadle the Bard, Quidditch through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them after finishing the main Harry Potter series.
I read the books first. I didn't like the way the films made Ron more stupid that he really was. And I absolutely didn't like the ending. They missed the point. Voldemort was supposed to be something he always despised, something for the weak, namely dead. Please excuse any fault in grammar and/or spelling
You ask which was first but my introduction to Harry Potter was so weird, because I first saw Chamber of Secrets in school, then I went with a friend and saw Order of the Phoenix, I had no idea what it even was my friends mother took us. Then I saw half of the Prisoner of Azkaban at a different friends house (right up to Hermione's 'I'm not an owl' line which I remember very clearly). Then I read the entirety of Half Blood Prince in two days, while on holiday with my family and the only thing I took away from it was the term Death Eater. Then I finally watched them in the right order about 3 years after that. Then read the books after that.
It would have been great to see some of these moments in the movies. In particular, I wish the final movie included the scene of Harry using the Elder Wand to fix his original wand.

I always feel bad about 2nd last test at Philosopher's Stone being cutting out (Snape's logic puzzle with elixirs which was true shining point for Hermione)
I have 3 things I’d like to see a video on. All of them (I think) tough to explain: 1) Why don’t they use the truth serum for people going to Azkaban? I.E. Sirius black could’ve been freed early by being forced to tell the truth. 2) Why don’t people more often use the time turner? I.E. someone goes the night of Lily and James Potter’s death and tells them to flee. Seems it could be done right without crossing paths with yourself since it’s unlikely in a private home. And lots of other situations. 3. Why wouldn’t everyone drink the Luck Potion before every battle. I know it’s difficult to brew but obviously you could have Slughorn make it over and over. Seems like a good thing to have on hand for huge battles. Like the big battle of Hogwarts.

The one thing I was hoping would be on this list is the one change that created, quite possibly, the most talked about loophole in the Harry Potter Movieverse. I'm assuming @Harry Potter Theory missed it though. I'm talking, of course, about The Marauders' Map. In the movie, when The Weasley Twins give the Map to Harry, they tell him how to use it and what it does. ALL of what it does. That, of course, spawned the often asked question: How the Hell did the Weasley Twins never notice Peter Pettigrew around their brother Ron while at Hogwarts? For the answer to that, we must turn to the books. You see, in the books, The Weasley Twins didn't know that The Marauders' Map showed people. As far as they knew, it just showed all the secret passages built into Hogwarts. Before people say it, no, that's not outright stated in the books. However, it is heavily implied. In the book, when The Weasley Twins give the Map to Harry, they tell him about the map showing all the secret passages. They never mention the showing people feature. They do mention it's the secret to their success, just like in the movie. When Harry asks why they're giving it to him if they need it for their success, they answer with this: "Because we've memorized the entire map." That one statement, in my opinion, is the confirmation that The Weasley Twins never knew about the Map's Secondary Feature of showing everyone in Hogwarts. You can't memorize a feature that updates in real time. And if they knew about that feature, like they did in the movie, they wouldn't have given up the map. In fact, the first time we see the map spawn people is when it's in Harry's hands and Harry is alone with the Map. And the only two people that we ever see properly use the Map to its fullest potential are Harry and Lupin. And what do they have in common? Both James Potter, Harry's Father, and Remus Lupin were two of The Marauders. They made the Map. My theory here is that only The Marauders and their direct bloodline can fully use The Marauders' Map. And that's why The Weasley Twins were never able to access the "track everyone" feature of the Map. And if this is the case, then by the end of the book, there are only a small handful of people that can actually use the Map to its fullest potential: Harry's Children and Teddy Lupin. Neither Sirius Black nor Peter Pettigrew had children before they died.
My introduction to Harry Potter was hodgepodged between the books and the films. I had not read the books or seen the movies at all. The first 5 movies were already out and I watched those on DVD first. Of course after seeing the 5th movie I had to read the remaining books to see how it ended which I did. I then watched the remaining movies at the theater when they came out. After all that I read the first 5 books which I had not yet read. I haven't done it yet, but I want to read all the books through again and then binge watch all the movies. Harry Potter never gets old because there is always something new to discover. Harry Potter Theory proves that.

You can send messages with a patronus. Kingsley Shackelbolt sent one to Bill and Fleurs wedding announcing the ministry had fallen and Mr. Weasley sent a message that ended up at Grimwald Place to Harry, Ron and Hermione when they were hiding out from Voldemort's followers after encountering 2 at the cafe in London.
I had completely forgot that the Elder Wand was not destroyed but placed inside Dumbledore's coffin by Harry. I like this ending more, as it allows two of the Deathly Horrows to stay in the Wizarding World, unlike the resurrection stone that gets lost in the Forbidden Forest.
I don't remember it being said that Voldemort's inability to feel love was because of the love potion. Jk Rowling said it was symbolic and then said that if his mom raised and loved him he would have turned out differently. On a positive note I love # 15 😂
Read the books first, fuller and more magical than the film in many ways. Have recently finished listening to Stephen Fry's reading the whole series, loved that too. I enjoy the films but so many things that were left out diminish the story a little.

I read the books 1st. My dad had the jewelers license to Harry Potter in the 90s when the books came out before the first movie. So I read every book before the movies came out.
I watched the 1st movie with my young great-niece at her demand. Lol. However, I liked it very much and her mother explained that it was based on the first in a series of books. Luckily, they had copies of the first 2 books so I started reading. As soon as I read the first book I was hooked so I went to the library to get the rest that had been published at that time. That was around 2004 so I had to wait a year to read the final book. It was while I was waiting for Deathly Hallows to be published that I watched all of the movies that were out at the time. By the time Deathly Hallows Part 1 came out in theaters all of my great-nieces were watching them with me so we all went to see Deathly Hallows 1 & 2 together at the theater as they came out. We had to wait until I could afford matinee prices so the youngest was 4 when we saw DH Part 1 at the theater in early 2011 then Part 2 later that year. Before we went to see Part 1 we all binge watched the other movies on dvd. I can still remember the 4 year old looking at me at the part where Dumbledore dies and practically begging me to tell her that "Dumdore" wasn't dead. Her heartbreak when I had to tell her yes he was dead nearly broke my heart. But I can remember the funny stuff too like her telling my sister not to worry that she'd tell her when Nagini was gone so she could open her eyes because she knew my sister has a phobia about snakes.
I first read the book then watch the film eg. When I finish Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban book I watch the film after. I do this so I do not spoil the ending from the book and also sometimes the films can help explain the book more visualy. ☺☺☺
I read the books long before the films came out. Obviously, I wasn't the most attentive film goer, because I'd forgotten that most of these were not really dealt with in the movies.
and Snape read that Dumbledore’s letter to Petunia without her permission…which made her even detest the wizarding world…Snape never showed remorse for what he did even if Lily was upset because Petunia was mad at her too.
I read the books first, that's why the movies were not so good, especially the end of the book when Harry nd Voldemort did battle in the great hall. 2 this day I still wonder why they didn't do it like in the book.????
I think this might be a challenge but is it possible to make a top 10 list of movie making choices that influenced future books? for example Cho Chang being Scottish in the books coz the actor was Scottish in real life (I never read the books but i heard that's what happened)
Nothing of the sort has happened as the books came out long before the movies. Cho is never mentioned to be Scottish anywhere, not in the books, in any interview or on pottermore. Cho was introduced in the 3rd book which came out in 1999. She starts dating Harry in the 5th book which came out in 2003. She was mentioned once in the 6th book and had a very little role in the 7th. In the movies she was introduced in the 4th which came out in 2005, 2 years after Cho’s major role in the books. There’s only one hint at Cho’s POSSIBLE nationality and that’s her rooting for the Tutshill Tornadoes. This might suggest that she lives near Tutshill, England. But only might.
I always thought this to be a bit weard. harry told the potrtet of dumbledor that he placed the wand in the grave and then ask when i die it wont have no owner no more and that be the end of it. Something like that. The potret seems to agree. Yet we learned from olivander that the wand chooses the owner so could not if it got in the future taken from the grave and back in the world simply choose a new owner?
It has to be won, Voldemort took it from the grave, but he wasn't the master of the Elder Wand. The problem is really Harry became an auror, which almost guarantees he'll be disarmed, and the wand will switch masters.
I think it would have been alot better if harry put the elder wand in Dumbledore's casket and I also believe that would have been a better ending to the film.
On the topic of Fleur, and Beauxbatons in general. The films make it seem like an all girls school. It's not. Likewise, Durmstrang is not only boys. It's crazy to think that with only 3 (known) wizardings schools in Europe, that 2 of them would completely exclude one gender or the other.
After seeing the half blood prince I theaters I HAD to see what happened next so I read the series shortly after. The movies are good, the books are amazing.

Gotta give props to the translators for managing the trick, also, some of the versions, like the French one, jedusor acturally can loosely translate to riddle, so not only did they make the name work, it actually kept its loose meaning

ive been a fan since the since the second book came out. I borrowed them from a friend and was hooker right away after that ever since a new book came out ive bought it and read it and since the books came befor the films i have to say books first then films. To impatienced to wait for the films to come out lol
I think the biggest one was missed…..the fact that Neville could’ve been the chosen one according to the prophecy. Both Harry and Neville were born at the end of July, Voldemort chose Harry instead of Neville. This was all missed in the movie.

HP movies are piece of cake comparing to books. It'd be good if they made it 200+ series with all elementary details in books. But yeah it's still great film
I was also thinking about an tv show for Harry Potter but can honestly not imagine what they could do in every episode for 40 minutes.
Guess it could also be just one season 10 episodes and 1 season=1 movie but u don’t know if you can make that many important things into a series.

#7 - Also, Harry uses the Elder Wand to repair his own wand before returning it to Dumbledore's grave. That's another pretty important detail. In the movie version of the HP universe, presumably he keeps using Draco's old wand, or maybe he returns that and gets Ollivander to make him another wand like he did with Luna? Might be something on Pottermore about that, I dunno.
#8 - Cho also defends Marietta, even though her supposed friend sold out Cho too in the process. It's yet another reason why Harry and Cho fail to work out.
#9 - Not only did the skip the Quidditch World Cup which had the spectacle of the Veela featured as the Bulgarian mascots (presumably Veela are native to Bulgaria, or at least are prominent there), but there was the whole bit with Fleur's father and half-Veela mother who come to help with the wedding arrangements. That's a pretty big aside to have cut out. I recall that he lore is that Veela are actually warm and affectionate sorts, but very passionate, in the sense that they can be quite vindictive when scorned (as they they were by the Irish mascots, the Leprechauns). It's not that unusual for Veela to get into a relationship with a human male and they don't care much about appearance, but more about character. Fleur's father was a charming and friendly sort of fellow but a bit pot-bellied and not particularly good looking, or something to that effect.
#10 - That was a great little scene. _"He spat at you."_ Harry is just absolutely _livid_ over such disrespect. Someone, somewhere, pointed out that whilst Mrs. Weasley was the warm, affectionate, and forgiving sort of mother-substitute for Harry, McGonagall was like a mother in the sense that she provided guidance and approval when he did well, and chastised him when he misbehaved, and had a side to her that was warm, caring, and had a bit of humour to it that Harry appreciated. Molly was the open warmth he wanted and needed, and McGonagall was a guide to keep him from getting away with things even if sometimes he was doing the right thing. The embodiments of Love and Respect, if you will. Both have it for and from Harry, but they both are far greater examples of one or the other.
#11 - Skeeter is also one of the first hints that The Daily Prophet isn't always a reliable publication. We see this clearly in the 5th book, that it's subject to outside influence, but the fact that they allow Skeeter as a prominent reporter/columnist when any reasonable person can see that she has heavily slanted writing and makes things up when it suits her. Even when she reports things that are essentially true she always chooses to frame it in a way that suggests something awful is going on. Before the 4th book The Daily Prophet is more or less implied to be a good publication that is fairly reliable and quick to find and report on the news. The Evening Prophet managed to report on the mysterious flying car before Harry and Ron even reached the school. That's some quick work, since they'd not only have to have gathered the reports and eyewitness testimony, but been able to add it to the printing before it was actually rushed to production. That shows a high degree of competency. But this apparently competent publication was perfectly willing to let Skeeter write for their paper when any respectable muggle publication wouldn't stand for her tabloid-like shenanigans. They know she sells papers and that matters more to them, in the end. The thing that's absurd is that The Daily Prophet doesn't really seem to have any sort of competition in the UK anyway? If people don't buy their paper they probably either don't care about the paper much anyway, or they go with more obscure or odd publishers like The Quibbler anyway. I supposed in aroundabout way that could explain their willingness to let standards slide in some areas, just to appeal to the tabloid-loving types.

Couldn’t agree more, I’d love to see people like Flitwick (who is a very talented wizard) who was made to look like a coward as his only scene was him running away from a troll at least have a few more scenes of him battling the death eaters.

Exactly! I was disappointed with the final battle.
I wanted to see the duel before Fred's death. There was a death eater got turned into a sea urchin, and then a big explosion that killed Fred; that would have been cool to see. I also wanted to see Grawp fight the giant, the biting desks, the attacking plants, the crystal balls being dropped on death eaters, the teachers battling Voldemort, etc.

I had seen movies 1-4 as they came out, but didn't get around to watching 5-8 until my son and I did a Alan Rickman memorial movie marathon. I immediately became obsessed with the series, which led me to read the series. It completed the story for me. I was even able to hear the story in the actors voices in my head while reading it...even if the actor didn't say the line in the movie!
in p.o.a it was crookshanks (yeah the cat) who gave sirius nevilles list of passwords so he could get into the gryffindor common room. it was also crookshanks who paralyzed the whooping willow by pressing on a knob in the tree not by snape who zapped it with a spell

Great list, here are some that I missed when they were not shown in the movies.
Myrtle was in the lake and pointed the way to the merpeople village for Harry.
No Peeves the poltergeist.
The other characters more active roles in the books than the movies, the movies were Golden Trio centric.
Florean Fortescue gave Harry free ice cream and helped him with his homework during his stay in Diagon, it makes his death far more tragic than the small mention in the movie.
Slytherins dressed dementors during a quidditch game.
I read the books first. Then I saw the films. One of the things about the elder wand that you did not mention was that in the book Harry used it to mend his own wand. Yes, he did return it to Dumbledore‘s grave, but he first use it to mend his own wand. I thought that was a much more powerful ending for the elder wand than what then was portrayed in the film.
I actually think that the movie change there was better. It was a rly meaningful way to 'snap' the power that had caused so much destruction. I love the books but that one change was better imo

One of my favorite book scenes is in Order when Harry and Ginny are chatting in the library about Sirius, eating their Easter eggs, and then getting chased out by the librarian.
Books all the way. Read 1-4 when 4 was released, then 5-7 on first day of release, lining up at 5 am (🇦🇺), booking time off work and not sleeping until I finished them.
I actually knew nothing whatsoever about the series until the close to the time of the release of Goblet of Fire...in 8th grade I changed schools mid year, going from what amounted to homeschooling back to the public system, and I came into the class when my teacher had already started reading Prisoner of Azkaban.
I was instantly spellbound.
I don't recall what year the first movie was released, but I know it was after the 4th book's release.
What I would have loved to see is Lockharts Valentines Day Event for the students.

I avidly read the books as they came out, standing in line outside the store with other people in magical garb until midnight when the doors were opened and I could buy the latest installment. I then would stay up all night reading✨I enjoyed the movies but always liked the books better as they were written in such a way that it was very easy to imagine the action and the characters. I liked the casting in the movies though, but if I had to choose only one medium it would definitely be the books.
Me too! The books are everything. The movies are good but they felt disjointed to me because things happened without any explanation.
What nettled me is that they did not show Lord Voldemort thinking back to the night of his down fall after watching Harry and Hermonie escape him at Godricks Hollow. Harry saw into his mind as Lord Voldemort remembered that aweful night and Harry saw everything from Lord Voldemort's perspective. That would have been great to see! This and the final battle in the great hall, watch Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix dual three people at once and the final confrontation between Harry and Lord Voldemort.
Still cannot believe they left out Tom Riddle's incredible back story in the 6th film in favour of the romance stuff too!

The biggest thing for me that always sticks out is that all the spells just knock enemies down or away unless it's important for the story! Rictusempra knocks Malfoy down! Stupefy knocks Ron but he gets straight back up. None of the spells do what they are supposed to do so the whole battling system is different. Still love the movies however. Lol! 😂😂

I am not sure the Weasley brothers knew that they were hitting old Voldy. However, I would have loved to hear their reactions had Harry told them where Voldy was stationed when inhabiting Quirrel's body😃.
Not diving much into the discussions Harry and Dumbledore have about the prophecy in The Half Blood Prince. It's one of my favourite part in that book and it shows why Harry is the person who has the best chance of defeating voldemort.
Time for another video on stuff movie watchers don't know - The characters that were portrayed differently from what they were in the books, or straight up character assasination (ahem ginny and ron)

I've never agreed with the "love potion" argument. For one thing, Dumbledore always speaks to (and about) Voldy as someone who constantly made bad choices. He would have been the first person to tell Harry not to judge him too harshly, and readers would have had no choice but to feel sorry for the jerk. Pity was never indicated, but "this guy was always bad" was. Also, that the whole "love potion theory" was only Dumbledore's guess. I think Harry's original thought that Merope used the imperius curse made much more sense, as she likely saw her dad and brother use it whenever they got bored or mad. They may have even used it on her! Since no one in the family had formal education, she probably never heard it was "unforgivable" to use.

I'm okay with the possibility that Merope used a love potion on Voldy's dad, but I have never found anything in the books that claims it affects one's ability to love (I don't like quoting post-publication lore when it doesn't make sense) I mean, if that had been a thing, the wizarding world would have made it illegal eons before and included it as an unforgivable.

My issue is people insisting Voldy had no love in him because of the potion. Considering his mom's side of the family were deranged inbreds, that likely played a factor in him choosing to despise love.

I began immersed in Harry Potter through the movies not too long ago, probably last year. Since then, I really grown into a Potterhead. I am now in the process of reading the books which I read until Half-Blood Prince and planning to read the other books like The Tales of Beadle the Bard, Quidditch through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them after finishing the main Harry Potter series.
I read the books first. I didn't like the way the films made Ron more stupid that he really was. And I absolutely didn't like the ending. They missed the point. Voldemort was supposed to be something he always despised, something for the weak, namely dead. Please excuse any fault in grammar and/or spelling
You ask which was first but my introduction to Harry Potter was so weird, because I first saw Chamber of Secrets in school, then I went with a friend and saw Order of the Phoenix, I had no idea what it even was my friends mother took us. Then I saw half of the Prisoner of Azkaban at a different friends house (right up to Hermione's 'I'm not an owl' line which I remember very clearly). Then I read the entirety of Half Blood Prince in two days, while on holiday with my family and the only thing I took away from it was the term Death Eater. Then I finally watched them in the right order about 3 years after that. Then read the books after that.
It would have been great to see some of these moments in the movies. In particular, I wish the final movie included the scene of Harry using the Elder Wand to fix his original wand.

I have 3 things I’d like to see a video on. All of them (I think) tough to explain:
1) Why don’t they use the truth serum for people going to Azkaban? I.E. Sirius black could’ve been freed early by being forced to tell the truth.
2) Why don’t people more often use the time turner? I.E. someone goes the night of Lily and James Potter’s death and tells them to flee. Seems it could be done right without crossing paths with yourself since it’s unlikely in a private home. And lots of other situations.
3. Why wouldn’t everyone drink the Luck Potion before every battle. I know it’s difficult to brew but obviously you could have Slughorn make it over and over. Seems like a good thing to have on hand for huge battles. Like the big battle of Hogwarts.

The one thing I was hoping would be on this list is the one change that created, quite possibly, the most talked about loophole in the Harry Potter Movieverse. I'm assuming @Harry Potter Theory missed it though. I'm talking, of course, about The Marauders' Map. In the movie, when The Weasley Twins give the Map to Harry, they tell him how to use it and what it does. ALL of what it does. That, of course, spawned the often asked question: How the Hell did the Weasley Twins never notice Peter Pettigrew around their brother Ron while at Hogwarts?
For the answer to that, we must turn to the books. You see, in the books, The Weasley Twins didn't know that The Marauders' Map showed people. As far as they knew, it just showed all the secret passages built into Hogwarts. Before people say it, no, that's not outright stated in the books. However, it is heavily implied. In the book, when The Weasley Twins give the Map to Harry, they tell him about the map showing all the secret passages. They never mention the showing people feature. They do mention it's the secret to their success, just like in the movie. When Harry asks why they're giving it to him if they need it for their success, they answer with this: "Because we've memorized the entire map." That one statement, in my opinion, is the confirmation that The Weasley Twins never knew about the Map's Secondary Feature of showing everyone in Hogwarts. You can't memorize a feature that updates in real time. And if they knew about that feature, like they did in the movie, they wouldn't have given up the map.
In fact, the first time we see the map spawn people is when it's in Harry's hands and Harry is alone with the Map. And the only two people that we ever see properly use the Map to its fullest potential are Harry and Lupin. And what do they have in common? Both James Potter, Harry's Father, and Remus Lupin were two of The Marauders. They made the Map. My theory here is that only The Marauders and their direct bloodline can fully use The Marauders' Map. And that's why The Weasley Twins were never able to access the "track everyone" feature of the Map. And if this is the case, then by the end of the book, there are only a small handful of people that can actually use the Map to its fullest potential: Harry's Children and Teddy Lupin. Neither Sirius Black nor Peter Pettigrew had children before they died.
Please explain the House cup and why it was never seen after the first book/movie?
My introduction to Harry Potter was hodgepodged between the books and the films. I had not read the books or seen the movies at all. The first 5 movies were already out and I watched those on DVD first. Of course after seeing the 5th movie I had to read the remaining books to see how it ended which I did. I then watched the remaining movies at the theater when they came out. After all that I read the first 5 books which I had not yet read. I haven't done it yet, but I want to read all the books through again and then binge watch all the movies. Harry Potter never gets old because there is always something new to discover. Harry Potter Theory proves that.

What other uses can some well known spells perform other than the main function seen in films? For instance, the patronus charm, other than repelling dementors, what else could it do?
You can send messages with a patronus. Kingsley Shackelbolt sent one to Bill and Fleurs wedding announcing the ministry had fallen and Mr. Weasley sent a message that ended up at Grimwald Place to Harry, Ron and Hermione when they were hiding out from Voldemort's followers after encountering 2 at the cafe in London.
It also repels lethifolds.

I had completely forgot that the Elder Wand was not destroyed but placed inside Dumbledore's coffin by Harry. I like this ending more, as it allows two of the Deathly Horrows to stay in the Wizarding World, unlike the resurrection stone that gets lost in the Forbidden Forest.
I don't remember it being said that Voldemort's inability to feel love was because of the love potion. Jk Rowling said it was symbolic and then said that if his mom raised and loved him he would have turned out differently.

Read the books first, fuller and more magical than the film in many ways. Have recently finished listening to Stephen Fry's reading the whole series, loved that too. I enjoy the films but so many things that were left out diminish the story a little.
Yas! I go through the audiobooks a minimum of 3 times a year🙌🏻 I don’t like reading anymore, so thank merlin for them! I cannot get enough of the HP books.
I read the books 1st. My dad had the jewelers license to Harry Potter in the 90s when the books came out before the first movie. So I read every book before the movies came out.
I watched the 1st movie with my young great-niece at her demand. Lol. However, I liked it very much and her mother explained that it was based on the first in a series of books. Luckily, they had copies of the first 2 books so I started reading. As soon as I read the first book I was hooked so I went to the library to get the rest that had been published at that time. That was around 2004 so I had to wait a year to read the final book.
It was while I was waiting for Deathly Hallows to be published that I watched all of the movies that were out at the time. By the time Deathly Hallows Part 1 came out in theaters all of my great-nieces were watching them with me so we all went to see Deathly Hallows 1 & 2 together at the theater as they came out.
We had to wait until I could afford matinee prices so the youngest was 4 when we saw DH Part 1 at the theater in early 2011 then Part 2 later that year. Before we went to see Part 1 we all binge watched the other movies on dvd. I can still remember the 4 year old looking at me at the part where Dumbledore dies and practically begging me to tell her that "Dumdore" wasn't dead. Her heartbreak when I had to tell her yes he was dead nearly broke my heart. But I can remember the funny stuff too like her telling my sister not to worry that she'd tell her when Nagini was gone so she could open her eyes because she knew my sister has a phobia about snakes.
I first read the book then watch the film eg. When I finish Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban book I watch the film after. I do this so I do not spoil the ending from the book and also sometimes the films can help explain the book more visualy. ☺☺☺
I read the books long before the films came out. Obviously, I wasn't the most attentive film goer, because I'd forgotten that most of these were not really dealt with in the movies.

I think this might be a challenge but is it possible to make a top 10 list of movie making choices that influenced future books? for example Cho Chang being Scottish in the books coz the actor was Scottish in real life (I never read the books but i heard that's what happened)
Nothing of the sort has happened as the books came out long before the movies. Cho is never mentioned to be Scottish anywhere, not in the books, in any interview or on pottermore. Cho was introduced in the 3rd book which came out in 1999. She starts dating Harry in the 5th book which came out in 2003. She was mentioned once in the 6th book and had a very little role in the 7th. In the movies she was introduced in the 4th which came out in 2005, 2 years after Cho’s major role in the books. There’s only one hint at Cho’s POSSIBLE nationality and that’s her rooting for the Tutshill Tornadoes. This might suggest that she lives near Tutshill, England. But only might.
There should have been way more scottish actors in the film considering Hogwarts is set in Scotland. (I'm Scottish so may be biased too haha)
I always thought this to be a bit weard. harry told the potrtet of dumbledor that he placed the wand in the grave and then ask when i die it wont have no owner no more and that be the end of it. Something like that. The potret seems to agree. Yet we learned from olivander that the wand chooses the owner so could not if it got in the future taken from the grave and back in the world simply choose a new owner?
It has to be won, Voldemort took it from the grave, but he wasn't the master of the Elder Wand. The problem is really Harry became an auror, which almost guarantees he'll be disarmed, and the wand will switch masters.
They need a Netflix series where each season is a book so they can very very closely follow the books and include all detail

I think it would have been alot better if harry put the elder wand in Dumbledore's casket and I also believe that would have been a better ending to the film.
On the topic of Fleur, and Beauxbatons in general. The films make it seem like an all girls school. It's not. Likewise, Durmstrang is not only boys. It's crazy to think that with only 3 (known) wizardings schools in Europe, that 2 of them would completely exclude one gender or the other.

Gotta give props to the translators for managing the trick, also, some of the versions, like the French one, jedusor acturally can loosely translate to riddle, so not only did they make the name work, it actually kept its loose meaning
I saw the first two movies, decided the books must be good, and thereafter read each book as it came out, before seeing each movie as it came out. I'll keep reading them, "Always."

Books for sure! I do love the movies too but they can’t come close to the books.

The books are far better then the movies with the movies diverging more and more from the story line from the first movies onward.

Read books first always find them to be better but the movies were good
ive been a fan since the since the second book came out. I borrowed them from a friend and was hooker right away after that ever since a new book came out ive bought it and read it and since the books came befor the films i have to say books first then films. To impatienced to wait for the films to come out lol
the way they did the duel and his death at the end really ruins it tbh

I miss Peeves in the movies
I think the biggest one was missed…..the fact that Neville could’ve been the chosen one according to the prophecy. Both Harry and Neville were born at the end of July, Voldemort chose Harry instead of Neville. This was all missed in the movie.
