This was my JAM!!!!! This and “Girls I got em locked up” was banging back in the day. Super Lover C was terribly underrated. Bro had mad skills on the MIC.
This was pressed three times in 1987. It first appeared in the summer on Citi Beat Records. And it blew up on the radio FAST! So when it was time to press more copies, DNA pressed them up for a second pressing. The record did not lose any steam and stayed strong for the whole summer and into the fall, leading Polydor to pick it up and release it for a third pressing. It must be noted that the Polydor Pressings are the best for listening. The Citi Beat are the most collectible because it's the first pressing, but the Polydor pressing sounds the best. They re-cut the mastering plates and the Dub is actually a minute longer as well, and just for that reason alone, the Polydor pressings are my personal favorite!
SUMMER OF 1987... I REMEMBER LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY... BLOCK PARTY... BROOKLYN,NYC... THE DEEJAY CUT THIS WHOLE SONG THE ***K UPP... PEOPLE WERE DOING THE WOP DANCE. ONLY THING I COULD DO AT THE TIME WAS STARE... AT THE DEEJAY AND THE WAY HE MOVED THE WHEELS OF STEEL.. IT'S AS IF HE COMPLETELY ZONED OUTTTT.. I WISH I COULD'VE TAPED THE WHOLE SESSION. RAP MUSIC'S ULTIMATE TECHNIQUE RIGHT HERE IN THIS ERA....
I been wrappin my head around gettin a similar sound on my MPC One. It’s so crazy how this beat was made without modern technology and it’s nearly IMPOSSIBLE to re-create in this day and age!
Long gone physically, but still in the mental, always looked for the full album because I just had this one cut on a rap's greatest hits volume or some other compilation, in my eyes would be one of the early cuts of the era known as the Golden age.
Super Lover Cee has to be mentioned in the same convo with Rakim, BDP, Kane, etc when it comes to flow and lyricism. NOBODY was rhyming like this back then! It's just sad that he and Casanova Rud didn't have longevity.
Does anybody know witch is the best 12 to get of this the citi beat ,dna,or polygram?theres 3 releases of it on different lables the album version sounds a flater beat than this one in the video I wanted to pick this version up the fater psk sample
They lived in my neighborhood. Very underrated. Miss these hip hop days.

Thank you for this info!
I bought the Citi Beat issue in Sweden circa 88-89'...miss those days massively.
Did you happen to work for DNA or somewhere in the industry at that time, Susan?
Wow! Nice information! Loved reading this. One of my favorite rap groups growing up in the 80s.
My mom still has the original vinyl 💪🏾

This Sample, all that Fryin in the Background is what brought me here. Love that sound.
That is the sound of our brains frying. Also check it out the sample on "Bustin Loose" by The Alliance

Reminds of when we use to hang at club sensations back in the 80s

Hit a record store and find out
According to some research, Citi is the best collectable and Polydor is the best sound. Good luck 🤞
But Eminem is the best 🙄
