Why am I crushing after the last part when he smiles
I hate how since people called him the villain, his actions can be justified. Nini only used him as a rebound to get over Ricky, Ricky tried to break them up just to get what he wanted and Gina basically did the same. Ricky got in the face with a basketball and thought an apology would clear the air. EJ has been seen as the villain when it should be Ricky (Ricky fans, pls don’t come after me)
I have been saying this for SO LONG, you worded it perfectly. EJ was always seen as second and a villain. It was reasonable for him to have trust issues because Nini would leave him for Ricky. You can see it by her face when he said I Think I Kinda Ya Know and when she lied to EJ after he asked where she was (when her and Ricky shared a moment during Wondering), but Nini still antagonized him…as if she’s trustworthy. Ricky is an inconsiderate home-wrecker who victimizes himself, with the nerve to say EJ is bad news…makes no sense. He thinks he deserves props for trying to say he’s apologize for the basketball thing, but what about the active homewrecking? Gina manipulated EJ twice, one with the stealing Nini’s phone then making EJ take all the blame (and even gaslit Nini when she said, “I don’t have your phone”). And next she manipulated EJ into going to homecoming with her, then when he reasonably asked her about her nonexistent plan, she threw a drink over his head. And even after ALL THAT, everyone else was seen as a victim except for him, but he’d the only one who took full accountability for his bad actions and improved.
If he doesn't get cast lead with Gina in the next season DON'T CARE HOW THEY'LL MAKE THAT HAPPEN BUT I NEED IT.

@@user-tx9fw2bm6d yes, but that's also called 'making a selfish and stupid mistake'. It's nothing you don't learn from, and he did redeem himself in the end. People have got to stop labeling characters as toxic based on one stupid thing they did. A lot of things you or I do or have done in the past could be seen as toxic, but that doesn't make us toxic people. It makes us human. Trust me, if a character was genuinely toxic, you would be able to tell. EJ may be a little self absorbed and oblivious, and he definitely screwed up big time with nini, but deep down he's pretty sweet if you think about it. Again, he proves this in the finale. No toxic person would give up a role so their ex could perform with the person they really liked. I'm not saying that you have to like EJ as a character, but calling him 'toxic' isn't exactly fair. That's the equivalent of me going around saying Dolores O'Riordan couldn't sing to save her life(pun NOT intended)just because I'm not a fan of the way her voice 'wobbled', so to speak. See? It's not fair. Sorry lol this was not meant to be condescending. Just trying to point something out that's worth considering. Have a good day 🤗
