Yep, even though he's not a fan, I feel like the percentage of A's and S's matched or outdid the other generations so far.
Watching this made me realize that a lot of the pokemon in this gen are just evolution (or pre evolution) of a previous pokemon.

For real, like electrode is just a color swapped voltorb. Nidorina/rino are just a lil bigger. Magneton is just 3 Magnemites. Poliwrath is poliwhirl with angry eyes. I still love them, but he is not being fair with these pokemon.

Also in gen 1 it's at least ""original"". Some of gen 4 Pokemon are just baby pokemons for previous gens that are just unnecessary. Also gen 5 added a shit ton of pokemon so of course it's going to have more hit or miss.
Oh well, at the end of the day art is subjective, so go shit on other people's opinion I guess.
You can't compare Gen 1 with any other of the subsequent generations simply because of all the limitations that existed within the gaming world, the limited storage of the original Gameboys/cartridges. It's like comparing a current iPhone with the original.

I 100% agree with him. It's slow, it has one of the worst teams including team flare and team yell. The story is meh, and it has WAAAAY too many hms. Fight me!

funny you mention that because so many kids missed the single optional trainer that had its evolved form lumineon near the end of the main game. which meant if you wanted to unlock national dex you had to either go and fight him or raise your own damn finneon for that garbage

These are ranked by design not usefulness. Starly is a basic bird design. There is at least two in every gen before this one. Pidgey, spearow, farfetched, tailow and Starly are all the same. Combee is creative combining the bee and the hive into the same creature

personally i'd rate Garchomp at the bottom. He's weirdly fucking disproportionate and doesn't have any hands, plus some weird ass design shit on his head. Gives me similar vibes to Greninja in that he's gross and weird looking.

That's the irony. As much shit as Gen4 gets, it also has some of the best designs, and some of the most memorable pokemon going into the later gens, especially with competitive and when megas hit.

A lot of people hate Rhypherior's design but I think it's cool that the Protector (you trade Rhydon with a Protector to evolve it) becomes part of its body. I think it works for what it's supposed to be: a big, sturdy monster.
I still hate rhyperior but yeah that always made sense to me. Now if only someone could explain why it’s shiny form is slathered in butter.

There were some weirdly low ratings on some but I feel like there were a lot of S ranks for the most hated gen. Someone should make a list of the total # of letters in each gen. It really feels like this might have the most S tiers.

Fave gen doesn't have to be determined by how many Pokemon get an S rating. I love a lot of mons from gen 4 but hate the games so my rankings alone wouldn't reflect my feelings on the gen as a whole. Also, even if he's just going off of the Pokemon themselves, this may still be "worse" than others to him if there are some S tiers but then the rest are sorta "meh" or not memorable to him

I hate Roserade's bouquets more than any other part of it. They took all the nice detail of Roselia's roses and made two fidget spinners with lines suggested rose petals.
He was a lot more nicer than I thought he would be. Most of his ratings made sense. Minus a few personal favorites

Yeah, I mean I love the Gen 1 starters, but people always say that they're so "Iconic" and "Memorable" and... no shit lol. They've been around the longest, they were the first we ever got, and as a result they've become far more recognizable and memorable. I've got no problem with people loving Gen 1 because that's what they started with, but I do think people end up being way too lenient on Gen 1 and way too harsh on later gens when judging the actual visual designs of the Pokemon

@@mcnierstenen9017 Really though? To my mind, honestly, I feel like 1st gen actually introduced a good amount of object-Pokes compared to many of the future ones (until maybe Gen 5). Geodude, Voltorb, Magnemite, Exeggcute, maybe Grimer too; 2 and 3 didn't really have that much more

I also agree with my man @BenTheStar because sometimes his opinions are the same with two Pokémon but he gives them completely different grades. I respect his opinion ofc, but I feel like the later gens he goes the more he dislikes the designs out so he might be biased in his opinion too.

Gen 5 get's unnecessary criticism in my opinion. Like, yeah, it has some dumb designs, but overall, it's not bad. I think it's mainly forgettable outside of a few.
Some of the designs are dumb, sure, but I think there's a lot of really good ones in there.
I am glad that pokemon white was my first pokemon game, because after that every old pokemon felt like a new one

Yugioh is really diverse in its art though so saying something is similar to Yugioh in its art doesn't really make sense. Like, you have the anime AF Time Thieves, the gothic Burning Abyss, the cryptid-based Danger!? and all of that is just TCG exclusives. Now look at Blue Eyes and compare them to Cyber Dragons and Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon.
