I always say that anyone can be good for a little while. We fall for the good, believing it is a lifestyle and are always surprised to find out how very wrong we can be.

Thank you for reacting! Strong message, It was easy to get how u didn’t see it, just like the women & men who see the kindness that these abusers put out at the beginning until the real evil comes out of them… I lived it.. get out tell someone it’s not easy but I believe in you!!! You & your children deserve it! Much strength & love to all of you in this horrible position. God Bless✌🏻🤍🙏

You did get it right. The shift from love and passion to fear and pain was designed into the song. That juxtaposition was so powerful.

She wrote it like that for your exact reaction. Everyone had it the first time they listened. She’s saying that an exciting and electric love can flip so quickly. And the signs of an electrifying love can sometimes be the signs for something so much darker.

Jennifer Nettles has a album she wrote while going thru a divorce from a bad, violent and unfaithful marriage. You have reacted to Stay already but she wrote that from the perspective of being the other woman in love with a man who is married. Stay shows her completely emotional and she had to stop and re record, stop and try again so many times it got to a point where Kristian Bush, the guy with her in Sugarland, said that's it just use what you have bc it was killing him watching her breakdown time and time again. Her solo album with the domestic violence & healing based songs is one that is a grand slam outta the park its so amazing in so many ways. I love, love, LOVE me some Jennifer Nettles.

Don't worry the first time I heard this song I basically had thought the same thing.

  • @kayannaottaway3381

That’s the point and she wrote a song that made you feel this woman’s journey and trauma. When will radio and the world get that Brandy is this powerful and she got it from being inspired by Gretchen peters who wrote Martina McBride’s songs you all love. Brandy has written for most artist charting for over 15 years and ignored for it. She’s so sarcastic and fun with serious things too. A real songwriter and Jennifer is too.

Billy Truthfully you probably don't know this but everything you said in the video is exactly what it's like to be someone in that situation. it's exactly what went through my head a million times! starting with your open mouth shock going. To "wow what did miss? i thought we were falling in love" and
" there were so many signs i feel dumb" also in the video you said this is real. you honestly don't know how a right you are! By the way I was one of the lucky ones but it was so trippy to see a accurate depiction what was in my head at time. Just so you know you're not dumb just like in this video that change happens to quick for most people to catch it so Thank you for not editing this!

Truth. I had so many injuries and still wasn't ready to leave him...until he decided he didn't want a kid and kicked me in the belly until I miscarried. Too late, but I finally figured out it wasn't me that needed to change; nothing was going to fix that relationship. Ladies (or gentlemen), don't wait...once is too often.

At first i didn't understand how you didn't get it but when you said that you thought his hands felt like thunder on my skin meant static electricity... I got you... Unfortunately with my background I could only associate bad things with that. I appreciate your honesty and your reactions are so genuine... Oh and kudos for always posting the phone numbers and websites. Oh and yes how you even offer that you have resources to help. Keep encouraging people to speak up and letting them know that they are worthy and better than how they're being treated. God bless! Hope you are doing well.. And your daughter too!

I’m not entirely sure that I’ve heard this before but I almost instantly knew the lyrics to this after the first verse. Actually I’m pretty sure in the first verse it was love she was talking about. How it started after that it’s when the song really hits

I recently found this song while my mom was dealing with her abusive alcoholic narcissist boyfriend. He didn’t know what he was getting into when I found out! He might of been abusive but I’m crazy and he will never break her again! I’m a gentle soul until you mess with my people! If you ever see this Justin... I will never let you hurt her again!

    • @kelleybutler9720
      @kelleybutler9720 5 лет назад +1

brittbr8tt Good for sister you and I are the same in that way, I don’t mean anyone or anything any harm but don’t mess with my MaMa or any of my darling family. My son is so much like me and my dear beloved Uncle Jackie (who passed a few years back) but he actually had to kill a man (in defense of a third party) my other beloved Uncle Larry (who passed almost exactly a year after his brother Jackie). If Uncle Jackie hadn’t killed that man and he hit my Uncle Larry one more time with the concrete block he was using, then my Uncle Larry would have been killed. Sometimes you have to do things out of your normal character to protect the ones near and Dear to your heart ❤️! It’s also true if you see someone being killed/harmed and you know you have the ability and the capability to stop it, how could you look away and not help. Especially for an innocent, a helpless person or a child.
I’m proud you were able to help your Mom out of a horrible situation and help her get away from that parasite of a man a predator is all those types of men are, looking for a woman to prey on. Makes me sick but I’m glad they’re others like me who wouldn’t stand for that nonsense and horrendous behavior. God Bless You, Your Mom and Your Family!

BillyYouSoCrazy You absolutely understood the song as Jennifer Nettles wrote it, it’s that how a new love can be excited and full of electrifying feeling but that it can be also signs of something darker to come. Most Men who end up being a woman/wife beater or a batterer are quite charming and they know what type of young ladies to go after, they’re honestly predators looking for the correct prey. They don’t want strong minded, self confident women, they’re looking for the more naive, low self esteem and needy for love. Then the man starts out all charming and nice, but once they have you where they want you the horrendous actions of verbal and physical abuse starts. So you actually got the song from beginning to end because she was showing through her songwriting and singing how something that seems beautiful can turn ugly so fast. No reason to feel like you missed it you actually understood exactly what she wanted you to see, how quickly it can change from good to bad!
Thanks 🙏🏼 for another great reaction and your honesty and being so real with your reactions, which makes them even more special. It’s wonderful that you put the hotline information up, Jennifer Nettles would be so glad you did that and happy you truly got the song from beginning to end. Well done and keep them coming!!
Much Love, Peace, Respect, Kindness And Blessings To You And Yours

When I was in... probably Freshman Year of High School, my boyfriend at the time and I were arguing over something stupid I'm sure. But, I start crying. (confrontation makes me so uncomfortable and at 15 years old it is just amplified) But, before I was even a thought my mom was married to a VERY controlling and abusive man, thankfully, he is not my father. But, I think hear my mom talk about how terribly that relationship was for her both physically and emotionally it gave me strength that give certain circumstances I wasn't going to allow a man or anyone for that matter treat me that way. Back to the freshman year boyfriend fight... when I wouldn't stop crying both out of frustration and anger, he slapped me and told me to shut the F up. It took me a minute to respond because I was so shocked. But I looked him dead in the eyes and told him to get the F out of my house and not to bother coming back. I immediately called his dad, who happened to be a retired police office who I had a great relationship with and told him what happened. I said I didn't feel like the police needed to be involved but that he needed to speak to his son about his anger issues because it wasn't ok, and that the next time I saw him on our property I wouldn't be making a courtesy call to him. From then until his graduation (he was 1 year ahead of me) we never so much as made eye contact. But I was honestly so proud of myself for standing my ground. I didn't tell anyone about it other than my best friend/cousin and she took that secret to her grave. I eventually told a few members of my family as the years have gone on (I'm 32 so it's been a bit)... first thing my younger yet bigger cousins said was yelling to one of the other boys, "Do you know where the key to my gun cabinet is", "Hill, where does this POS live?" I honestly couldn't help but laugh and tell him I loved them for that, but it wasn't necessary, I took care of it and now we live our own lives and we've seen each other at charity events and we either don't put ourselves in a position to speak or be introduced to one another... or we make it short and sweet and move on. My thinking is simply that something you do when you're 15/16 shouldn't haunt you the rest of your life. Now that being said, I want nothing to do with him, but it doesn't mean that I need to air out our dirty laundry.

That's the way it was in the beginning. So when he changed, so did the chorus.

I just want to say when you said how did I miss the signs, well that was the point.
Women dismiss the signs when falling in love faster and we forgive the guy muptial times then another women tells her story and it's the same then they leave.

You should check out Jennifer Nettle's beautiful tribute to 9/11, 'King of the City'. It is told from the view of an immigrant window washer. The lyrics and her vocals are achingly haunting.
