Yeah, their lead guitarist Dave did leave the band after their third full album Chuck. There wasn't really bad blood, but he just wasn't interested in the direction Sum 41 was going for this album in particular (which went back to pop-punk, while he preferred their heavier stuff), so he left to do his own thing. Two albums and a LOT of behind the scenes chaos later, Dave did reconnect with Deryck and return to the band for their album 13 Voices, and has stuck by them ever since. But for this album (Underclass Hero) and the next (Screaming Bloody Murder), he isn't with Sum 41. He actually later said that he listened to Screaming Bloody Murder and liked the sound so much that he wished he had been a part of making it, which was what began making him reconsider his decision to leave.
You should check out "The hell song" By sum 41, it has one of my all time favourite solos of all time, and the song has a really funny and cool music video, despite the song talking bout one of Deryck's (Lead singer) best friend getting HIV.
Dave left for a long period. They ended up getting Tom from the band Gob to replace him. Then the drummer Steve has since left, Dave has returned. Now they have a new drummer, Dave and Tom. I miss Steve but the new drummer (not really new anymore) Frank is awesome.
Such a lovely song for your mom and dad
Loving your Sum 41 reactions
