Retired paramedic now. Pulled lots of hoses. Once left a job in the late eighties for 11% more money and better benefits. Five miles away. Less sleep. Ended up covering my old position for more than a year, a sharing agreement. The old county couldn't come to grips with what a life is worth. Cost way more than what it would have cost just to pay us the going rate. That cost them Even a volunteer fire department costs money.
Welcome to what is happening in all jobs. The new employees get the new higher minimum wage and the long term employees pay basically stays the same as before. Pretty demotivating for the long term employees of all jobs. I always saw calfire as the training grounds for fire fighters to move on from, but decent pay should be expected.
Hilarious they make plenty of money I live in the hills they do work hard but they also waste a lot of Californias money have seen it with my own eyes I've seen private water trucks be called in to work and sit there for 3 to 5 days doing nothing and be told just relax your getting paid talk about bs own not to say you can still call burn info and it's still dated for July 1st um what month are we gonna in

America is about wealth period. People head to the source of the most money. That's the way it goes.
Just charge more taxes
83% less pay??? Is that math right???!!!
you dont join for the money...
Si vis Pacem Para Bellum you still should live comfortably
Si vis Pacem Para Bellum No, you don't join for the money, but you damn well deserve decent pay and a decent living for risking your life constantly.
Can't feed your family on integrity and courage though.
cjeam yeah it's stupid, like I'm not gonna be a FF if I could become a nurse and still help people
They’re working a 72 hour shift? I thought those were gone years ago......I’d jump ship too.
