- Though it may not enjoy the alt-rock radio dominance it had in the mid-1990s, ska ain't dead. In fact, it's enjoying quite the renaissance in south Los Angeles, where a community of Latin American musicians and fans are bringing global sounds and a DIY ethic and aesthetic back into the music. We met scene figurehead Clemente Ruiz to get an inside perspective on how a new generation is making ska the sound of their culture.

I mark this day as the day I found your insanely awesome channel in the ocean that is youtube. Now excuse me, I'll continue to binge watch all your videos.
It would've been nice to extend the video so we could actually HEAR the music you were talking about...
Ska and Soul are the best music genres of all time. Im so obsessed I have a tattoo of Jimmy cliff from the harder they come on my leg haha
First wave Ska only though. There is some decent later Ska but it's just a shallow shadow of an imitation compared to the originals.
Ned Gold no rock and metal are
iamhughmun Nope you're wrong there. Good genres but not the best.
Ned Gold to me rock and metal are the best jazz is second then blues
iamhughmun Haha that's the beauty of opinions! But seriously if this is your first exposure to Ska you should branch out, old Ska hardly sounds like this. My favorite band is Toots and the maytals or you could listen to the best soundtrack of all time, which is the soundtrack for the film The Harder they come
Someone send this to Bruce Greene ASAP
TowersPreston Did you know ska came before reggae?
TowersPreston the Ska lord needs to know
Wow right! I forgot all about ska... This was an awesome video!
where's Bruce Greene from +Funhaus when you need him
Ska is well and alive in Latin America...
La Maldita Vecindad used to be the best. One of the most famous song was Pachuco
Great! the 90's are back.
I was hoping to find MMFM, but this is cool thought maybe MMFM had an influence to the other bands.
Absolutely love it.
Hey Clemente remember "follow me home foo"
He’s not wrong :) .
♥
I think latin americans, from Argentina to the latin community in USA, took Ska and made it their own, bigger and better.
That's my block lol but good vid
What is the band name at first in this movie?
La Resistencia
I see a lot of people in the scene hate that clemente guy.
compLex with a capital L why?
Not too sure honestly, i just heard a lot of people say fuck that guy from a lot of promoters and bands, i know of one incident where he told a band one their members couldn't play his skawars event or whatever its called cause one of the band members said something bad on his event page.
At the end of the day he’s doing what’s keeping the ska scene alive in legit ways here in LA
“Ska with Latin flavour” is almost like a mock
What is SKA
siKC One The Great I would say like reggae and punk but I'm not sure but it's live 🔥
Lewis Perez Only second and third wave Ska has punk influence. Basically Ska is a form of popular music in Jamaica that directly led to the genre of reggae. For instance Bob Marley and the wailers were originally a Ska band.
siKC One The Great Youre also likely to br familiar with Sublime who are a third wave Ska band.
Who's that on the lower left with the striped shirt @ 0:57 ??😭🔥 beauty.
Go to Africa and make one vid
2
Voodoo glow skulls started it.

Fun fact Ska, Reggaeton and Hip Hop have Jamaica to thank for the music
