ramjb How do you counter a move like the one at 20:45. I mean it becomes apparent that they are going for a rake and that you are going to end up with your unloaded side facing him but there doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it.
The amount of raw power whenever you fire off a full broadside of double shot is just about the coolest thing I've ever seen in a game. Oh, and the thunder-like echoes like 2-3 seconds after somebody shoots is cool too. I definitely want to play some Naval action now.
search on RUclips for: HMS Götheborg (Gotheborg should work if you don't have Ö) London and pick the video where the Götheborg and a british modern warship does gun salute to each other :D It's epic
I love that barely audible ''ear ring'' every time you fire off a full volley from one of your sides. Really makes you understand just *what* the hell you unleashed on the poor sucker on the recieving end.
ramjb zzzzzzzz.....huh? was I sleeping, lol ;) It's Not you ramjb, it's just the sounds in this game are very similar to "nautical asmr" , with a somewhat persistant bosun pipe! :D
After watching the first Naval Action video from Sidestrafe I soon hopped to your channel and after watching a bunch of your videos ordered the game. Having tons of fun so far with trying to put your lessons to practice in the light ships. Not always as easy in a 1v1 but had a few matches with 15 to 20 lights in pvp and that was super. Thanks for putting the time in creating videos and I am looking forward to more!
watching these videos just brings to mind the sheer bravery and guts that the sailors who served on warships like these showed, i mean facing off against an enemy broadside and delivering your own must have been pretty devastating in reality not to mention some of the really nasty wounds caused by flying metal, chain and splinters. but hell yeah the Victory is certainly a sight to behold, what a way to project power on the high seas ;p
WindmillStalker Im 15 and im fascinated by the age of sail would it sound crazy if I told you I played the New Horizons Mod like RamJB has since a couple of years ago? :D
i just play the game, have fun and know when i've had my ass handed to me(this is true of any online game) pretend your the little ship that could. . . until you can't, and then continue more lol
This is one of the most interesting games I've seen in a long time; just finished all of your Naval Action videos, Ram! Can't wait to pick this alpha up myself, hopefully soon!
Really great vid! Fights like these are the best. Even if the biggest you can sail is a Snow, like I can in a 16!!!man battle I was in tonight. Largest I've been in so far. It's always more fun to join the "normal" pvp then the one for smaller ships & it gives way more eyecandy. Great sailing & well deserved Victory.(no pun intended :p) Fair winds & blue skies!
Looks like the game of my dreams is finally being made! REALISTIC multiplayer battles in the age of sail! Way to many of them are too arcadey or rely too much on random number generators. I'm going to quite enjoy seeing long drawn out battles that don't involve gank squads using overpowered gear and magic combat powers. I wonder if shallows and ship size will be a factor, would be cool sailing a small sloop and being able to evade and loose a pursuing frigate in the shallows. Or trick a less experienced foe into running his ship aground and then pelt him mercilessly with unrelenting fire.
Blue messages on a blue water background needs some work I think. Great win I hope you still have both arms and eyes. :) Looking forward to your analysis and your future battles on the high sea.
I have done my best in watching all of the available naval action videos and Ramjb, you are the best! When will you produce a new video? And can I be on your team? My member name is Maxer der Grosse.
I WILL be getting into this game. I have about 7 age of sail miniature games; its my favorite genre. But, just getting good at War Thunder, finally. So, I'm enjoying that with the little time I have, for the time being.
I like how it begins with a ranged battle and suddenly all hell breaks lose close up. A pity i discovered this game only yesterday, can't purchase it anymore... hope it'll be soon on Steam.
u should put classical music under the gameplay like Vivaldi the three seasons and then season Winter. Its perfect for these naval battles i also always use it too draw big naval battles and paint them. Great video keep up the good work .
kumisz had a Hard drive crash couple weeks ago, took almost one week to fix, doing some stuff now (you'll soon see in the videos I'll upload), but Naval Action videos will come for sure too :).
I've noticed in most of the Naval Action vids I've seen no-one seems to use chain shot to tear up sails and rigging to potentially hamper a vessel's speed and manoeuvrability and that attacking a ships stern doesn't seem to slow a ship down either. Does the damage done to the ships actually have an effect in how they handle/perform or is just a case of cosmetic damage until it finally sinks?
Sail damage has an impact, and chain is indeed used (so much that it's recently had it's max range reduced to balance it's usefulness). The reason you see not a lot of chain usage by my part is because I usually put videos of myself in pretty big ships in pretty big battles. Big ships using chain in big battles is a massive waste of hull damage potential. Small ships in that kind of battle however can do pretty influential damage with it's lighter guns (Which can't penetrate thick hulls unless very close to the enemy) .
This is currently on sale and as a big fan of the age of sail I'd really like to try it ... But I've seen more ships sunk than masts or spars broken in this battle. Is that an alpha thing?
This game is spectacular. Reminds me so much of the old Avalon Hill Board game, Wooden Ships, and Iron Men, except without all of the bookkeeping. Any idea when we might start to see any of the open world modules? Look for me as dwalsh10 in game, but so far I've just made it to Brig level.
I think your side need to go on the practice range.....and fire more instead of looking around! lol Well played...you were outnumbered.....but I'd use both sides more often. It's funny how the smaller ships seem to 'get in the way' on manoeuvring. Like the game though!
Seems to me that the area in which you have the most to gain is broadside precision. You have a tendency to just fire off all cannons despite the fact that your last aim shot went over and so most of your broadside goes the same way. Am I on to something here or am I missing something?
Sometimes you just need to turn and the turn will put the target out of the arcs of fire so better to take the shot and try your luck than not shooting at all. Other times you can't get enough elevation due to ship heel and you try to shoot when the ship rightens up a slight bit because of a wave or a slight course change that rights your ship a little bit. Some shots might feel forced and thrown because of lack of patience, but I almost always have a reason to take the shot even while I don't have the range perfectly narrowed down.
Also slightly long range shots that fall past the target still means a heck of a lot of heavy balls zooming just avobe decks. Get some of those balls in a mast and magic happens. Specially the 42s and 32s (mid and lower decks) are splendid demasters.
ramjb Alright thnx for that. I guess it's my gut telling me not to fire at all if I can't get value, but then again if there's no ammo count it's better to fire one time too many than one time too few. Also I'm wondering what you think of the repair system. Seems a little odd to me that they've gone with the repair count solution where the repairs almost become like cards you can play. Would it be more realistic to just fit repair into the resource/manpower allocation system?
Not right now. And will be quite rare when it's in, I'm guessing, and not product of direct gunfire (shells of the era were inert solid round shot), but rather of damage-related on-board fires spreading into the powder storage and...boom. Which is what happened to the ships of the era like L'Orient and others.
Yup I know about the story of l'Orient ^^ as a french and with a lot of members of my familly or who had served who serve right now in the Marine Nationale ^^ Well... The explosion of L'Orient was pretty spectacular, as we can see that the fight had to stop for almost an hour after that to repair the ships on all side and calm down after the chock that the detonation had been on the mind of all the sailors that were there...
it wouldnt exactly work like that if the ships deck was on fire and then you exposed the gun powder reserve to the fire, than yes because theres a relatively low chance that just by shooting gun powder would cause it to explode but of course many ships in the past have sank due to the powder reservers being hit so we never know :D
actually, you reduce sail as battle becomes immanent. Let me guess, the spanish ship fires just as fast? Or do they at least take the major reason for the success of the royal navy into account?
they need to add a boarding mechanic to this game if its not already in the works. whats naval combat without boarding? even black flag had boarding, as shallow as the game was.
Boarding already was in when this video was recorded, though in a very simplistic way. It's in the game too right now - and is a well fleshed out mechanic by this stage.
i learned this recently. im extremely excited to jump into this game. although i have to disagree, as good as it is that they have this boarding mechanic, it is only a screen with numbers and buttons to press as of now. of course, i don't expect to be boarding the ship in first person and slaughtering the crew, although that would be awesome, but more a more visual build of the same mechanic they already have in the game would be awesome.
20:45
He redecorated your captain's cabin, that's for sure.
22:22 he also got his bedroom rearranged ;)
ramjb
Yeah you definitely got revenge. Turned his cabin into an outdoor patio.
WindmillStalker
Actually that rake turned his ship into an subaquatic recreation park for sealife ;).
ramjb
Oh, like how they sink off ships to provide artificial reefs? It's nice to see you involved in that business. Very green. +1
ramjb How do you counter a move like the one at 20:45. I mean it becomes apparent that they are going for a rake and that you are going to end up with your unloaded side facing him but there doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it.

***** ist das spiel fertig oder noch Beta? wo kann man es kaufen??
Konsolero - Old School Games Es ist eine alpha test ;)

Trampek TheShoe I've heard guns like these being shot and it doesn't make your ears ring.
Smorfty i think you mean that you have heard cannons like these being fired ;) but i doubt that you have heard a whole battery of them like this
God damn this game is spectacular!!!!
FINALLY! A BRILLIANT NAVAL GAME!
Thank for posting this raw footage, really got caught up in it haha
oh hey steven good to see you here :D
***** May I ask you something? Was that a pun when you said, "but right now it's just too shallow." ?
+gdbalck I wish I could.
cd257 either this month or next :P
TheMarineGamer IGGHQ Are you serious? I cannot wait longer! The tease is real!
I fell asleep watching this. This game has the most soothing sounds
Robert Downey Jr. Uhhh thanks? I guess?. Dunno the idea of my videos making someone fall asleep is not that amusing...hehehehe :D
ramjb I'm a fighter pilot type guy, the fact that I watched your half of your video before succumbing to the sounds is amazing on your behalf
ramjb zzzzzzzz.....huh? was I sleeping, lol ;) It's Not you ramjb, it's just the sounds in this game are very similar to "nautical asmr" , with a somewhat persistant bosun pipe! :D

So much respect for the skill needed to play this game, wonderful and thrilling to watch but I know this old mans limitations.
Pretty much all of it is thinky skills, no twitch reaction time nonsense. Very good game for old people, yes? :D
if Bis can play it anyone can XD
Haha! now now Ram...Biz and you can fly in Sim in War Thunder or IL-2 ... I can't! Skills where skills are due
WindmillStalker Im 15 and im fascinated by the age of sail would it sound crazy if I told you I played the New Horizons Mod like RamJB has since a couple of years ago? :D
i just play the game, have fun and know when i've had my ass handed to me(this is true of any online game)
pretend your the little ship that could. . . until you can't, and then continue more lol
This is one of the most interesting games I've seen in a long time; just finished all of your Naval Action videos, Ram! Can't wait to pick this alpha up myself, hopefully soon!
a true warrior of the 20 minute market
Jesse Allen Excuse me?
ALL his naval action videos, they are 12-30 minutes, I was commenting that watching them all is impressive, and that t takes some dedication
15 videos over 4 weeks...yea, dedication you would call. :P
Can't wait to get our new computer. Thanks for the unbelievably great display of naval combat of old. You guys are great.
Awesome video Ram! Some of those point blank, double shot broadsides were brutal.
Absolute masterclass! A couple of dicey moments there but some superb tactics! Well played!
I could rewatch these big battles several times tbh :D
Really great vid! Fights like these are the best.
Even if the biggest you can sail is a Snow, like I can in a 16!!!man battle I was in tonight. Largest I've been in so far.
It's always more fun to join the "normal" pvp then the one for smaller ships & it gives way more eyecandy.
Great sailing & well deserved Victory.(no pun intended :p)
Fair winds & blue skies!
Edit...
And have a great Christmas!!!!!
I would say that match fits the definition of epic, especially compared to the smaller ship videos. Well done!
I couldn't stop watching D:
The most epic battle i have seen and also the hms victory you sank was epic it was worth watching over and over again.
Looks like the game of my dreams is finally being made!
REALISTIC multiplayer battles in the age of sail! Way to many of them are too arcadey or rely too much on random number generators. I'm going to quite enjoy seeing long drawn out battles that don't involve gank squads using overpowered gear and magic combat powers.

great game. loved hearing just the sound of the game..
Amazing, so calm and sedate until the ships got to within knife fighting range. Then is was unleash hell, thank you for sharing.
Blue messages on a blue water background needs some work I think.
Great win I hope you still have both arms and eyes. :)
Looking forward to your analysis and your future battles on the high sea.

Anyone else ever play the old Avalon Hill game "Wooden Ships and Iron Men? I've been waiting for this game forever.
Epic fight! What could happen if the ship's magazine was hit (in game, I know full well what used to happen IRL)?
Wonderful game 🎮. I have never played this game. Is this game for android phones and can I play this game offline?
I am guessing there will be no marines when this game comes out?
Awesome! hooked on the game and subbed. Thanks for loading it up!
Santísima Trinidad is a spanish ship...
The Spanish are not in the game. (At least I don't think they are)
Golden Age of Piracy
This dont have sense =(
+Golden Age of Piracy Still it was a ship from the spanish but they fought together with france in the battle of trafalgar
+Golden Age of Piracy How can this be possible if half Caribbean was spanish
Acusticamente Convusional
I don't know, they are mainly focusing on the French and the British.
I like how it begins with a ranged battle and suddenly all hell breaks lose close up. A pity i discovered this game only yesterday, can't purchase it anymore... hope it'll be soon on Steam.
had a mast shot in there as well had not seen that happen yet very cool
Why did you stop making these videos, they were so good
Finally we're seeing some proper ships! :D
28:33 and again, the wee thing stood no chance! Good lord that looks menacing though
Nice sail control / maneuvering there Ram. A skillfull death dance of a whale. XD
u should put classical music under the gameplay like Vivaldi the three seasons and then season Winter. Its perfect for these naval battles i also always use it too draw big naval battles and paint them. Great video keep up the good work .
Heya, where did the clips and comments vid go? Cant seem to find it :)
I really love the look of this game.
I miss your Naval Action videos, Ram :(
kumisz had a Hard drive crash couple weeks ago, took almost one week to fix, doing some stuff now (you'll soon see in the videos I'll upload), but Naval Action videos will come for sure too :).
ramjb hey, why i can not buy the game? :D
+ramjb can this game be moded? and put zheng hes treasure ship?
This is a excellent game, very immersive.
Excellent vídeo.
there are some boarding mechanics?

how did that lil thing survive at the 25 min mark?
its just like one cannon...another one and then it hits.... all are shooting... love that scne
I want this game so badly now!
Looks pretty good for an alpha. And the full broadside is just OHhhhhhh!
What a great battle!! Absolutely spectacular! :-D
Santísima trinidad... In the band of the british? Were are the spaniards?
Somewhere around 29 or so minutes why didn't your ram and capsize the small ship? You lined up for a broadside and didn't even sink it
+J Reid Because Ships of the Line never fires on a smaller ship unless the smaller ship fires first. It would be extremely dishonourable
Was I the only one that laughed at the return fire from the Victory when they shared a full broadside to each others stern XD ?
This is currently on sale and as a big fan of the age of sail I'd really like to try it ... But I've seen more ships sunk than masts or spars broken in this battle. Is that an alpha thing?
please inform me the name of the song, which is at the end of this video.
Where does all this whistling come from?
How do I get to play this game? It's not on steam. Looks amazing!
Ethan Ernst you will have to wait www.navalaction.com/preorder/
It's in pre alpha
would you see cannon balls just a question did they really go that slolw?
It depends on the type of gun and the size of the cannon ball but most of them went at about 500 or 600 meters per second
Some great moments in this for sure!
What was your pc setup in this video? I don't know if i can run this game at stable 30, but i really want to buy it :)
Just wondering. Can you team kill on this game?
just a ignorant question here, Why are their such few crew members actually on board manning the guns and sails?
Because this is Alpha footage most likely. Hopefully this will improve :)
I think your side need to go on the practice range.....and fire more instead of looking around! lol
Well played...you were outnumbered.....but I'd use both sides more often.

But, ships will they be connected to theyr nation only later on or will we aways see British and French Santisimas ?
***** I see and understand thanks you for your reply :)
What is it with that damn whistle? Who blows a whistle in combat every few seconds?
it would be really nice to see physx on the sales not just the flags.. i guess this is a temporary model for now
Are there ramming mechanics in this game?
Angel K.N i know im late but yes
in real life no, when they release open world no...your gonna have to keep the ship after the battle so you dont want to purposely do it
And, umm, what are fifth rates doing wandering around in front of first rates?
I *NOW* know what I wanna have for my birthday! :D
anyway , one question : is there any ammo explosion in this game ? like you shoot a ball into the powder storage and BOUM ! x)
Not right now. And will be quite rare when it's in, I'm guessing, and not product of direct gunfire (shells of the era were inert solid round shot), but rather of damage-related on-board fires spreading into the powder storage and...boom. Well, this game looks pretty goddamn cool.
whats the name of this game? where can I get it?
naval action.steam g2a instant gaming.....
Damn, I can't wait to play this...
When you took the Santissima's tail and the ship just shuddered under the impact. Wow.
any info about this game? and is dmg model so broken? in one of videos i saw 1st rate firing full broadside into cutter and cutter survived..
Alpha
Beautiful game. Would like to have it. Wooden Ships and Iron Men!
actually, you reduce sail as battle becomes immanent. Let me guess, the spanish ship fires just as fast? Or do they at least take the major reason for the success of the royal navy into account?
Is theee a lot of people in this game?
That was amazing, well played!
This game is my christmas present for myself :D Can't wait to give it a try, any advice for beginners?
Hey Ram, what PC specs do you have?
What's the point of the Exams in this game?
damn too bad I got taken back to the snow :/ cos now my GPU doesnt work at the mo so I cant progress towards the ST
***** yh thats the thing its a really fun ship to play! its got decent fire power and amazing maveuverabilty its great
when they open so you can purschase the game?
What a beautiful Video
how much is this game, and where to buy it?
Very good work!
damn this looks incredible
It's beautiful... I felt like I was in the 18th century
Man, it must have sucked to be a sailor on one of those ships. Can you imagine cramming 1,000 people into such a small hull?
antred11 Can you imagine getting hit by a 64 pounder caronade? your dead mate
+antred11 What if you were on the Mary Rose. Built top heavy capsized and sunk with with all hands.
the only gripe I have with this game is that it seems ships can take far too many hits before becoming crippled or destroyed.
when is this ready to play?
이야~ 이런게 온라인으로 나와야 되는데 어디서 구할수 있을까요? 이건?
What is the name of the game....???
someone has the company's email ?? I have a problem on my computer and I have q talk to them !!!
is this game still under development?
Early Access Alpha
hat is this game called?

Imagine been in this situation for real!
That was a good one!
are you guys danish i see you got a danish flag on yor ships

25:00 The poor wee thing stood no chance! lol
Was it me or was that ship flying a jock flag?
