Lots of folks are switching to a Houghton RV AC Unit !
Here we switched out a Coleman Mach AC unit for a much quieter Houghton AC unit on a 2014 Winnebago Navian and we're bringing you along for some tips on how our installations can go smoothly but also, there may be some bumps in the road. You never know what can happen when you switch to a different brand of RV AC units!

I see you didn’t use any silicone to seal the unit to the roof, just to confirm….tightening the gasket 1/2 inch is good enough., thanks
@@lupesalazar5872 no type of sealant is used. Most of the gaskets that are attached to the bottom of the units have a paper gauge also. Not all of them, but many of them. Also, you can reach out to the manufacturer of your unit and inquire about a specific torque spec to be absolutely sure you have proper compression. But NEVER use a sealant. Unless….. it’s a special application. Like a van, class B type. Then that manufacturer may have different specs. You will know if you have an unusual spec when you remove the old one. If you find sealant, reach out to the manufacturer. Good luck on your install.

The Coleman on high is 72 decibles and is 70 decibles on low. The Houghton is 62 decibles on high and 52 decibles on low. Very big difference 😀. There is also some great information on the Houghton website.

I have a quick question, I have install two of the houghton 15,000 but units with heat pumps and love them. My question is in regards to the thermostat that runs the propane heater, do you have a video on how to wire the propane heater after install the houghton units as there are remote controlled. I like to use the propane heater one and a while as it has basement heat for the winter. I think the power to the thermostat came from the old dometic A/C unit I took off the roof. Any help or instruction would be appreciated.
We left the original AC/furnace thermostat in place. Since the Houghton used a remote we just left the old control board tied to 12 volt in the ceiling. The Dometic has a pair of communication wires that would have sent a signal to the furnace. Unfortunately we currently do not have a video on this. Darin from @myrvworks may.

You've done a video on cleaning your A/C. Maybe I'm missing something, but I would like to know how to remove the cover of my Houghton 15,000 Heat Pump to clean the coils and inside. When I first ordered mine, the cover was cracked and they sent me a new one. I see how the top section can be removed using the cracked one, but not when it's attached to my roof.
There should be 4 screws on the top of the cover and two on the side but getting to the condenser coil is very difficult on a Houghton. Several brackets must be removed in order to remove the styro foam cover. Take lots of pictures so you know how to put it back together.

I am wanting to do this same upgrade, with the Houghton ducted, can I use my existing ductwork?
Should work just fine. Shares the same space as the current AC.

Can you install that in a semi truck sleeper? Such as 2015 freightliner cascadia?
Why not? But it uses a ceiling controller, so you have to have 120volts available to run it.
