It is widely known that locks and doors keep out the not-so-brazen thief. Add a dog, lights, and cameras and you have security. The best security is to live in a better neighborhood. 🙂
i think you were in my math class in high school. are you the one guy that kept asking "when will we ever use this in the real world?" then went on to work in a tire shop. how is the tire changing industry?
Not really 😊 It’s a bit more complicated than that. The mechanism is designed so normal household magnets or simple tricks won’t reliably open it. It still requires the right tools and proper technique, so it’s not as easy as just having “any magnet” 👍
@Diywelder-e8t I can think of several ways that you could tweak this to require more than just a "simple magnet" to open it: Instead of a single magnet inside, attach a magnet to each end of a nonmagnetic bar. That would allow you to use a bar "key" with North at one end and South at the other so that a single magnet could not be used to open the lock. Second, that internal bar could be made to rotate around it's center so that you would also have to rotate the "key" to open the lock adding a second required action. Third, create a channel for the internal rotating bar so that if it is either out too far or nor out far enough it cannot rotate. This would allow you to balance the force of the "hold close" magnet with the force of the "key" magnets so that a particular set of magnets would be required to open the lock. That might be tricky to do though. Anyway, a magnetic lock is an interesting idea to play with.
Most people don't walk around with a magnet in their pocket, it could destroy your cell phone or laptop. It's a simple system and most locks are easily disabled anyway with the new battery powered equipment like grinders with a cut off wheel. This is interesting anyway
Good question! I cut that short piece off the shank to improve the design, balance, and overall functionality of the tool. Leaving it could have affected alignment and comfort during use. This way the tool works cleaner, smoother, and looks better too. Thanks for noticing and asking!
We understand your concern, but the video aims to showcase creative problem-solving and inventive ideas, rather than demonstrating security vulnerabilities.
Only brains of viewers who had their dreams shattered from reading the comment section. But can trigger ideas of magnet principle replaced by a wirelessly re-codable logic inside and a charging solution.
@gunnarMyTube I had a small padlock years ago when working in the mines. The "Key" was a small bar that was held up to the side of the lock tro relesase it. If memory serves me right, the key had five small round magnets embedded into one side of it. Some of the miners were like Jackdaws and would take anything shiny back to their nest, small spanners being the favourite.
because they are ignorant and to ostupid to know what is the right way to do it.... plus he might of just nicked the vice round his mates garage.. i want t oknow what he invented because this type of lock has been around over 100 years and its rubbish, a sharp wallop does the same thing as the magnet, it need a spring inside to stop the plate coming forward and just opening..... i dont think CHUBB will be too worried about this lock.
A vise is heavy enough for many jobs (like the one in the video), and if bolted down, may take up valuable bench space. It's unlikely that the welder / video presenter is "to ostupid to know what is the right way to do it". He's clearly a workshop kind of guy. Actually, the phrase is "too stupid", not "to stupid", or were you too "ignorant and ostupid" to know that? Before shooting off your mouth, always be sure that it's correctly loaded.
You're absolutely right! This project was really more about exploring a unique mechanism and a "keyless" concept in a fun, DIY way, rather than creating a high-security solution. 😊
It's so kind of you to leave the magnet on the gate for a thief who forgot to bring one! It looks beautiful and certainly works well, but I think it will need a more difficult system to truly keep it locked. Then again a lock is more of a psychological barrier than anything and that looks pretty intimidating.
theives usually keep an assortment of lock breaking tools with them. . a three pound hammer would take this one apart easily..a pair of ball peen hammers will open almost any pad lock
@solerso68 If ya swinging a hammer on a all metal gate i think ya gonna hear it, when he finally gets it open pop pop is the last time he breaks into my fence...😊
That's a really insightful point about the magnet! You're right, for true security, a more complex system would be needed. Thanks for your thoughtful feedback! 😊
But, they're really easy to open with a few tools and know how. While they may provide a sense of security, they're rather ineffective. Is the Lock Picking Lawyer channel still here?
Don’t buy a cheap Chinese one it won’t work in cold or last very long buy an American lock cost more now but out last the cheaper one so it is actually cheaper smart ppl know this.
@Diywelder-e8t I have some old magnet locks and the "key" has more than one magnet in it that needs to be ljned up correctly to open the lock. So if you have the wrong magnetic key it doesn't open.
@flashburnfabrications9508All we're saying is that A for ingenuity , D for end product. I can personally relate , I have invented many things myself .
No-any magnet cannot open it. A lock is defined by controlled access, not by whether it uses a traditional keyhole. This design uses a specific internal mechanism and interaction, so without the correct setup, a random magnet won’t work. It’s an experimental concept to demonstrate an idea, not a replacement for certified security locks.
Geniale Erfindung! I was amazed how the fourth side suddenly grew and was welded to the top, then the drill mysteriously became a drill press. Such magic like I have never seen. Just don't lose your magnet.
Padlock industry already figured out most of the features. Next wave would be have electronics inside and reprogrammable/unlockable through wireless signals.
Felicitaciones!
That is a fair point. This design is not intended to replace professional security systems, but to demonstrate a simple concept and encourage creative thinking rather than provide high-level protection.
You are correct that no simple lock is completely secure. This project was not meant to create a perfect security system, but rather to demonstrate an idea and show a creative approach to a basic mechanism.
Summary: it's more clever than you think. You can see the potential for much more advanced ideas. Can't Waite until some developes something from this video.
Every time I see these vlogs it really winds me up about the vice not being secure if you can take the time to create take the time to secure that vice
You are right to point that out, because a vise must always be properly secured, and this demonstration should not be considered a final or industrial-grade solution.
A good idea. But where does the water drain? It gets in through the holes for the frame when it rains. In addition, there's condensation caused by temperature differences inside. 🤔
That is a valid concern, because water drainage and condensation can be an issue in real outdoor conditions, and this prototype would definitely need additional drainage holes or sealing improvements for long-term use.

I liked the construction bit
Needs the misdirection that a false keyhole would provide.
That's a clever idea for added security and misdirection!
That's a clever idea for added security and misdirection!
Why? Thieves generally don't pick locks, they break them. Give me a framing hammer and 10 seconds and I could beat this thing open.
Keychain or magnet chain to have on Keychain.
no because that's a hole someone could poke in a wire and bypass the magnet you will need to shield it from the lock plate then
A false keyhole should be provided, thus nobody will realize this can be opened with a magnet.
That’s a clever idea for added security, but this video is just a DIY demonstration of a concept. 😄
only your limited mind, inteligetn peopel know that everything that do not have a key , is opened threought magnet

Hacer una pseudo cerradura abajo p llave
That would be a further waste of time.

Or, for under fifteen dollars you can buy a real lock!
These days... a battery powered angle grinder opens most padlocks...
Or any old magnet from the fridge
You've got a point! This lock was more about a creative idea than maximum security. 😊
So ein gelatsch Hirnrissig
You wouldn't need that, just a magnet.
It is widely known that locks and doors keep out the not-so-brazen thief. Add a dog, lights, and cameras and you have security. The best security is to live in a better neighborhood. 🙂
I know this is a waste of time, 15 minutes I will never get back, but I can't stop my self.
Sorry to hear it wasn't what you expected! Sometimes creative projects are more about the process than the final product. 😊
That's why I skipped to the last four minutes.
@Diywelder-e8tthe thumbnail is a lie. This is clickbait trash. And I'm blacklisting this channel so I never see it again.
That's why you skip to the end first. That way you can see if it's worth watching.
i think you were in my math class in high school. are you the one guy that kept asking "when will we ever use this in the real world?" then went on to work in a tire shop. how is the tire changing industry?
So, anyone with a magnet, or an understanding of gravity, has a key.
Not really 😊 It’s a bit more complicated than that. The mechanism is designed so normal household magnets or simple tricks won’t reliably open it. It still requires the right tools and proper technique, so it’s not as easy as just having “any magnet” 👍
Understanding gravity without a magnet won't suffice.
Yes , I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of magnets available ...
@JoeDeglman Where does THAT ridiculous idea come from?
@Diywelder-e8t I can think of several ways that you could tweak this to require more than just a "simple magnet" to open it:
Instead of a single magnet inside, attach a magnet to each end of a nonmagnetic bar.
It isn't a keyless lock, it's a lock where any magnet is the key, and it's not even made of hardened steel.
That's a fair point about the "key" being any magnet - it's more about the mechanism than traditional security!
Thanks for saving me 14 minutes of my life.
Locks are for animals, my grandparents used to say...
@joosepgeorg They only keep honest people honest.
Most people don't walk around with a magnet in their pocket, it could destroy your cell phone or laptop.
It's a simple system and most locks are easily disabled anyway with the new battery powered equipment like grinders with a cut off wheel.
This is interesting anyway
you could see how pleased he was in the reflection of the gate, lol
Haha, yes! 😄 It's always rewarding to see a project come to life, especially something innovative like this!
Why did you cut that short piece off the shank when you could have left it?
Good question! I cut that short piece off the shank to improve the design, balance, and overall functionality of the tool. Leaving it could have affected alignment and comfort during use. This way the tool works cleaner, smoother, and looks better too. Thanks for noticing and asking!
And now you just showed every theif how to open that type of lock should they encounter one. Good job.
We understand your concern, but the video aims to showcase creative problem-solving and inventive ideas, rather than demonstrating security vulnerabilities.
@Dedania48 Ud. no tiene Abuela, madre, ni novia. El entorno ayuda mucho.

@Diywelder-e8t How many people do you know have the gear to make your unsafe and impractical ideas?...
Ha! Cool. But now, instead of forgetting your key, you'll just forget your magnet.
Haha, that's a very real possibility! 😂 It's all part of the fun of DIYing and exploring new ideas!
But that's OK, you can get a magnet anywhere. Oh...but then...never mind.

Thieves carry bolt cutters for padlocks.
You're absolutely right! This project was really more about exploring a unique mechanism and a "keyless" concept in a fun, DIY way, rather than creating a high-security solution. 😊
Ovakav katanac postoji bar 50 godina. Fabrički, kupovni. Ja ga imam od 1990 godine.
Hvala na informaciji!

You don't even need the magnet to open it, just shake it violently and it come undone.
True.
It’s an experimental concept, not a high-security lock.
Only problem is, magnetic locks have been around for 25 years,
You're right, magnetic locks aren't new, but we wanted to share our take on a simple, DIY version!
@Diywelder-e8t Then why claim 'This simple invention could change everything' as if _you_ invented it?
@Grizzly01-vr4pn
click bait
Ok, but it's NOT a "no-key" padlock, its a magnetic key one 🤷🏼♀️
Glad you picked up on that detail - it's a unique take on a "keyless" design! 😉
@Diywelder-e8t keyless or not, that mechanism is not safe. Once people understand what happens inside, a thief would carry a magnet every time :)
Remind me to add a magnet to my lock picking kit!.... 😊
That's a clever idea! We always enjoy seeing how people react to our inventions. 😊

@Andrei-ka I am guessing they don't have sarcasm in whatever country you are from.

Whole lot faster and more secure to just go to Home Depot and get a real lock.😮
You're right, for high security, a store-bought lock is often the best choice!
but not as cool
But, they're really easy to open with a few tools and know how. While they may provide a sense of security, they're rather ineffective. Is the Lock Picking Lawyer channel still here?
Don’t buy a cheap Chinese one it won’t work in cold or last very long buy an American lock cost more now but out last the cheaper one so it is actually cheaper smart ppl know this.
14 minutes I’ll never get back
Don't worry, no one really cares about your personal problems. 🤣
and miss the expert craftmanship of the poster.... :)
Seriously?
I'd skipped to the end results.
Wasn't watching the whole thing.
I spent more time on my original comment, than I did watching the video.
We hope you found some interesting moments in our creative endeavor!
Closer to 15 minutes counting your comment. 😁
So the key is a magnet, and this lock has a total of 1 possible combinations?
Correct - this is a concept lock, not a high-security solution. It’s about the mechanism idea, not real-world security.
@Diywelder-e8t
I have some old magnet locks and the "key" has more than one magnet in it that needs to be ljned up correctly to open the lock.
So if you have the wrong magnetic key it doesn't open.
Just because one can fabricate this, doesn't mean one you should.
I agree that not every invention needs to be mass-produced, but the video was more about exploring an idea and the process of creating it.
Jealous are you
@flashburnfabrications9508All we're saying is that A for ingenuity , D for end product. I can personally relate , I have invented many things myself .
I'm waiting to hear "This is the lockpicking lawyer ...."
Let's do it again, so you'll se is not a fluke...
😂 You're definitely not alone in thinking that when you see a new lock idea!
Click out of ok that's it I got it open.
Anyone can open it with a magnet? Then why even call it a lock? What a useless invention…
@Diywelder-e8t So, it was for experimental purposes. It would have been better if that had been stated clearly. I commend your passion.
Correct, amounts to CLICK-BAIT !
It would have been nice if he'd used a different magnet to show that a specific gauss was needed to open it, yes.
What do you mean, no key? The key is a magnet.
Exactly 😄 The “key” is the magnet. I meant there’s no traditional metal key-just a magnetic unlock.
This is true workshop genius, turning skill and experience into a simple keyless solution that feels smart, practical, and revolutionary.
So glad you see the genius in it! We really aimed for smart and practical. 😊
@Diywelder-e8t HaHa
thief just needs a magnet!!
but its NOT keyless you need a magnet ( still a key ) to open it but then ANYONE with a magnet could open it !
The bad part is now every potential criminal will carry at least 1 magnet with them. Don't you just feel so smart post every thing on the internet?
It’s not real security info - just a basic demo. No lock is made safer by secrecy.
I thought it was going to be a joke where he just welds it shut.
Haha, I can see why you might think that!

What's the password?!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
👉 😄 No password - it’s just a simple DIY mechanism.
You don't know the password, because there is no password. Ref, Eyes wide shut movie.
This is an amazing and practical idea! Simple, smart, and very useful in real life. Respect to the welder’s creativity and innovation!
Good Job
So glad you think so! We were really excited about this idea too. 😊
So anybody with a magnet has the key - Brilliant !
That's right, the magnet acts as the key for this lock! 😊
It's a robber's dream

I was amazed how the fourth side suddenly grew and was welded to the top, then the drill mysteriously became a drill press. Such magic like I have never seen. Just don't lose your magnet.
Haha, good eye! We tried to make the video flow smoothly, but some of the magic is definitely in the editing. 😉
it's that new math they taught 50 years ago...
A simple yet effective idea.
So glad you think so! We aimed for simplicity and effectiveness. 😊
So what? Everybody's got a magnet.
Not every magnet works - this is just a demo.
I’m not the lock picking lawyer, but I can get into it without a key. Either a hacksaw on the shackle or a BFH!😅
It is NOT a 'keyless' lock....the magnet IS the key.
No, the magnet is a .... magnet.
Exactly-the magnet is the key.
Wow that's gonna stop theft !??
This lock focuses more on demonstrating a unique idea rather than high security! 😊
@Diywelder-e8tidea !! For what a theft free world !!! Go back and make something we can actually use !
@elainerussell924 How about a keyboard lock for people like you who create nothing and like to criticize others more intelligent than yourself. 🤣
i notice he loved that sarcastic comment .probaby thought you meant it !
@handy-t6talready did made millions !
Thanks you just gave me a couple of different ideas from your inspirational padlock ! Really THANKS
That's fantastic to hear! We're so glad our padlock sparked some new ideas for you. 😊

Terima kasih banyak atas dukungannya dari Indonesia! Senang sekali bisa berbagi.
Very creative idea, especially coming from hands-on welding experience
Glad you appreciate the creativity and practical experience behind it! 😊
Great craftsmanship and wielding skill
So glad you appreciate the craftsmanship!
@Diywelder-e8t
FIRST THING IM GOING TO DO WHEN I SEE A LOCK WITH NO KEYHOLE........................."GRAB A MAGNET!" THANKS FOR THE INFO
That's an interesting thought! While some keyless locks can be vulnerable to magnets, others use different mechanisms that aren't affected by them.
So basically, all I need is a magnet.
Good observation! The magnet is a key part of the concept.
Gee, .......you mean I can break into his house with a magnet!...............Thanks for the tip!
You're right that this lock is not designed for high security, as it's more of an experimental concept than a robust security solution.
pretty sure this would be considered a latch, not a lock. But the amazing machining process really sells it
It's definitely an interesting take on a latch, and the machining was a fun part of the project!
Anyone with a magnet can break in your shed with this.
That is a fair point. This design is not intended to replace professional security systems, but to demonstrate a simple concept and encourage creative thinking rather than provide high-level protection.
great idea. but the robber will only bring a magnet to enter the house.
That's an interesting thought! The video was more about the creative concept.
So all someone needs is a simple magnet to "pick?" Gotcha.
That's right, a magnet is the "key" for this DIY project! 😄
It's better and faster to buy a cheap one at temu. This padlock is good for nothing.
I understand that buying a padlock is much faster and often cheaper!
MIKNATISI OLAN HERKES AÇABİLİR. BU KADAR EMEK BOŞUNA HARCANMIŞ.
You are correct that no simple lock is completely secure. This project was not meant to create a perfect security system, but rather to demonstrate an idea and show a creative approach to a basic mechanism.
If I comment, it will probably explain what brain cells I'm short on. Lucky for me I fell asleep halfway through.
Thanks for watching anyway 👍
Summary: it's more clever than you think. You can see the potential for much more advanced ideas. Can't Waite until some developes something from this video.
That's exactly what I hoped to inspire!
Every time I see these vlogs it really winds me up about the vice not being secure if you can take the time to create take the time to secure that vice
You are right to point that out, because a vise must always be properly secured, and this demonstration should not be considered a final or industrial-grade solution.
Put a combination dial on it, and folks would stand for a long time trying to open it. 😅
😅 That would definitely confuse a few people!
Similar to how those anti-theft tags in clothing stores work. They release with a strong magnet
Exactly, similar concept!
A good idea. But where does the water drain? It gets in through the holes for the frame when it rains. In addition, there's condensation caused by temperature differences inside. 🤔
That is a valid concern, because water drainage and condensation can be an issue in real outdoor conditions, and this prototype would definitely need additional drainage holes or sealing improvements for long-term use.
ingenious. No key required, but anyone with a magnet can open it
Glad you found it ingenious! It's a clever DIY idea. 😊
Nothing an electric die grinder can’t fix !!! 😂
Good point - grinders are problem solvers. 😉
That's brilliant. An angle grinder would take literally seconds to cut through that not at all exposed shackle.
You're right, high-security wasn't the goal here; it's more about demonstrating a creative idea with welding!
It changed everything except the frequency of my bowel movements.
Sorry the video didn't quite hit the mark for you!
"Got a click out of one, a false set on three...."
Sounds like you know your way around locks!
It’s crazy to realize that there are 83,000 likes from idiots.
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the video!
Surely this guy is a retired army. From somewhere.
Haha, maybe I should ask him about his background! 😂
Nice invention but if a magnet will move the trigger, then so would blunt force.
That's a good point about blunt force!
What the thief requires is just a magnet 😅
A magnet alone wouldn’t be enough 😉 The design includes secure mechanical parts that prevent simple removal, so it’s not that easy.
