  • High standards or impossible standards? Which one are you? Episode 037
    This is a subject I have been thinking about for a very long time. If so many people are resistant to an OCPD diagnosis, maybe there are descriptors that just aren't matching up with the way you feel. Could it be that we need to clarify how we describe OCPD? In this episode, we discuss just that. Thanks for tuning in!

    i can't believe this video only has 900 views. the quality is pretty good. i think the problem is most people are not even aware that ocpd even exists

    I like how you can show how emotionally intelligent someone with OCPD can be. The clinical perspective of the diagnosis can make someone with OCPD look very selfish and disconnected. It's important to talk about OCPD and someone plainly refusing to take accountability for their actions as separate issues. Of course someone with OCPD can also be someone who refuses to take accountability but, it is not who "we" are.

      Melissa Salo you make an excellent point. For those that do their research, the results can paint us in a light that some of us just don't resemble. Or maybe bits and pieces of us do, but certainly, we are more complex than that. But for many of us the 'textbook definition' does us a disservice. Thanks for the comment.

    This was one of the big ones for me holding me back in my art career. Knowing when to stop. Knowing when something was finished and ready for me to sign and send away. Luckily figuring out the combination of meds that work for me give me relief from these anxieties & moments….and I’ve only been on them for a week know. Best week I had in a long time. 🤙🏽

      R.E. Chang I am so happy to hear that your new meds are working wonders for you. As someone that is involved in creative fields, I can very much empathize with exactly what you are talking about and I know the paralyzing frustrations that can come from that. I wish you all the best going forward.

    I believe my mother in law suffers from this. Webe been staying with my in laws until our house is ready but it has been a bad experience. This is the lowest ive ever felt about myself. I feel crushed by the weight of the unrealistic expectations.

      Symone Martinez_Art well they are exactly what you say they are..."unrealistic expectations". Perspective can be hard to maintain when we are under stress, but that is what you would benefit from the most right now. You are doing nothing wrong and you need to believe that your own expectations of yourself are the only ones you need to worry about.

    I’ve relaxed my standards a lot but I find it so hard not to get “repulsed” by someone who doesn’t meet my standards. Even in ways where I may be right, I just wish I were more accepting and loving about the way I approached that with people. My connection with my sister is going down the drain because I think she’s making decisions that affects other people. I don’t even want to talk to her anymore. I feel like moral standards are so hard to address.

    • @OCPD_support
      @OCPD_support  3 года назад +3

      capoeiristachik1 there is nothing inherently wrong with having moral standards. It's when they are maladaptive or unreasonable. One way to gain some perspective is to take a look at the effort you need to put in to live up to your own standards and how that's negatively impacting your life. That might clue you into why others choose not to live by those standards. A lot of times living up to a certain set of morals may give us some sort of peace of mind, but at the same time, it can be destructive in so many other ways.
      I don't know the situation between you and your sister and there are always two sides to every story. So I'm unable to determine if you are trying to help her or if you are just judging her. So you'll have to look inward for an answer.

    • @capoeiristachik1
      @capoeiristachik1 3 года назад +3

      @@OCPD_support I appreciate that, that’s helpful insight. I do think I want to keep that moral standard. I just wish I wouldn’t get repulsed by people who don’t have the same values as me. I think it kind of puts me in isolation and makes for an unsafe feeling of the world. That might be a therapy topic lol.
