Pyrite is an awesome indicator and replacement mineral for organic material in fossils. As shells/bones/plant material breaks down, it seperates into its base minerals - Iron and Phosphate. If conditions are right, the Iron turns into Iron Sulphides (Pyrite) that can create golden coloured concretions and fossils, most famously the pyritized ammonites from germany and the uk. Pyrite as a lithogenic mineral is found associated with Nephrite and Serpentinite deposits, as these rocks started life as massive deposits of Gabbro and Dunite (Iron rich mantle rocks) that were altered via heat and fault action.
Few "pure" metals can be used in jewelry. Platinum is an exception. All others tend to be to soft, corrode/tarnish or are too difficult to cast into the intricate shapes desired. Gold can be alloyed into white, rose and green (off-white).
I'm still Loving your channel!!!! Your so lucky to work with so many gems!!!! Edit: thanks for six likes!!!! I'm soooo thankful This is the most amount of likes I have ever gotten! Have a wonderful life everyone
Pyrite has a clear crytal-like structure, with clean, planar faces. Gold, as a metal, doesn't have that. I like Silver or Titanium best for jewelry; I prefer the austere look they provide to Gold's more remarkable yellow.
How can people be fooled by that? If I were to see fools gold in nature, I would think: "Da heck is this stuff? It looks golden, but in a metallic-already-refined golden way" Normal gold: "Yellow-ish ... Metall ... is that gold?"
Crash Kojote when discovered in veins in caves, the sight difference is slightly harder to tell apart. When mining for Gold or just exploring, many unfamiliar viewers might see riches, only to be fooled.
That’s pure pyrite, pyrite found in nature looks closer to gold than you think, look up pyrite inclusions in lapis lazuli it looks like gold surprisingly.
@@quinnsterd4764 I was going to comment this... The Iron Pyrite she used was low in Sulphur Inclusions... Maybe if looking for Gold doing panning where Tenths of Grams and Hundredths of Ounces mattered... Then Pyrite with High Sulphur Inclusions were easily mistaken for gold dust.
Being a very pale person with cool undertones I look way better with silver jewelry, the only yellow gold piece I hold dear is a pendent with real gold flakes my sister got me from Alaska. Aside from that I'm very partial to the coloration of white gold But personally I really like the look of pyrite, its has that brassy metallic gold color, that again would work with skin tone, plus i actually have my own sizable chunk from cavern that you can visit around where i live.
What do you think about mentioning any of these minerals, rocks, and fossils? Tourmaline, Rose Quartz, Petrified Wood, Mixite, Tiffany Stone, and Cookeite.
Skin Allergic rash reaction are not due to gold or silver , its because of mix of alloys . Silver tarnish is healthy & treats 99% allergies its a purifier metal. Milk/foods will not spoil if treated with 99% silver . Ka-shawww😎
I've been fascinated by gold and fools gold for years so this video was awesome for me! I used to trick my friends with fools gold all the time back in elementary. (:
When you get a dumptruck of gravel - Sometimes Rocks have oxidization that causes a chemical reaction . .. Thats the fools gold i was looking for. . . not this.
I’m a chemist, not a gemologist, and I still know better. I was also triggered when you said you’d mix pure gold with an alloy and started listing off elements to turn gold /into an alloy/. I mean, unless to gemologists copper, nickel and platinum are somehow already alloys - however what I assume you meant was “You’d mix pure gold with these elements to make an alloy”.
I found this in a really old mine that's been closed for over 60 or more years. Maybe you can tell me if it's real gold. It looks like it to me but I dont know anything about all this. If I can figure out how to load a pic on here.
Do you mean what alloy is better for jewelry? For daily use 18kt is better since the extra alloys make the piece harder. Like what is said in the video gold is very soft. For bullion purposes 24kt is better since pure gold is preferred in the growing asian gold market. 22kt is good as well.
They used a pyrite specimen with too little sulphur in real life the difference is less obvious because of sulphur content, chalcopyrite is even harder because it can be malleable like gold.
999% gold is a shining metal softer & looks cleaner than Silver. 999% silver tarnishes but cleaner stronger than gold & Silver is antivirus/bacterial . Silver is brighter than any metal. Under shade & side to side silver Pops up brighter. ( Gold: jewelry/electronic/money. ( silver: jewelry/electronic/money/medical/more industrial than gold . 😎 ka-shaww.
You forgot to mention that gold is soft and can easily be molded while fools gold has harder surface and is not as soft. it flakes off rather than molding to the pressure from scraping with a nail. If it.is harder than the nail chances are it is fools gold. And color and even the appearance if it is formed in reflecting mirror patterns it is probably.fools gold.I want to be more than a mine geologist I find lots of fools gold but there are more than just one type of fools gold seems like one has iron in it another is part copper and another type cant remember still can't find real gold In the blue grey stone. In our rock we have what I think is calcium bicarbonate, dull amethyst not see through, and a pink crystal powder rock Washington rock quarries in Kapowsin but in our other pit king creek wa rock we have agate' s and jasper
@JTV, the how good denser than iron? Watch #GameTheory’s video on Bullet Bill (In the RUclips search bar, type ‘How Deadly is Mario’s Bullet Bill?’ Then jump to the 11:25 mark).
My favorite color gold is is 100 percent gold made in jewelry or 99.99 gold or 24k yellow gold. Only 24 k yellow gold is acceptable wedding gift gold in Chinese culture or it is not sellable for more than throw away trash t-shirt off brand t-shirt price $10 retail that you throw away at the end of the year cheap.
Gemologist not geologist nor minerologist...nor miner nor prospector...i guess you can be forgiven this once...but that's your free pass. Not that anyone knows about them . but the u.s.a. made .2483 ounces troy $5 gold commemorative coins from 1984 until...pretty sure they still make them occasionally. They are 90% pure.Which is 21.6 kt.
Well they got the name right because only a FOOLwould think that pyrite which is like a black color is actually gold,it looks absolutely NOTHING like gold and i mean NOTHING like gold and not even close! Black and gold are 2 different colors people!
Fool's Gold is called like that because only a fool would think it looks like real gold.
TRUTH!!!
this video is pure gold

white gold doesn't exist its really just rhodium plated yellow gold
A wonderful specimen of pyrite! Showing well-formed pyritohedron shaped crystals.

lol, i kind of like pyrite for its refined, futuristic look
Pure Flamboyan ce
Pyrite has a crystal structure where real gold is a clump

Also natural gold usually contains Lead which makes it much less yellow.

"...but I'm a gemologist, so I do know better..." cracked me up. Haha. I didn't know what carats meant in gold. Very interesting.

Loved this video, and your puns "A U get back here" 😂😂😂
I found a shiny, silvery-goldfish, sparkly rock, I don’t know what it is for sure, but I like it
I would've thought fool's gold would've looked more convincing...
Pyrite Looks Like Its A Darker Shade.

I TOLD EVERYONE FOOLS GOLD TOTALLY LOOKS DIFFERENT
I've seen fools gold and it never looked like that pyrite. It looked more like the nugget, but it did have a different feel. So, I am confused.
Dude I have a bunch of rocks with gold flakes in them. I always assumed it was just fools gold but watching this it def is gold
I love pyrite! I have two tiny rocks and I like feeling it ... it’s great
Ok now I want a single action revolver with fools gold grips.
There’s no way you had enough money to by that gold😂
The gold looks too metallic 😂
You can actually wear 24k gold everyday and wont bend or break. It will get scratched but thats ok. Check out mene.com they sell 24k gold jewelry.
i love rose gold!!! it's sooooo pretty!!!
The gold rush was in 1848, but it was kept quiet until the US finished buying California from Mexico in '49.
I like this topic!

I'm falling for your Fool's Gold

Whoops! Good catch!
Those dodecahedral crystals are the real showers here.

I prefer golden gold. But that's just my opinion.

Is fool's gold even worth anything
Really large cubes of pirate are somewhat valuable in a from a mineral collectors standpoint. High quality or odd specimens would fetch a premium.
Could you do Kidney Ore its my favorite?
That does not look like pyrite
It is its cubic (idk how to spell the word)
