  • Gotta love the locals!! With some help from some fellow motorcycle riders along the Great River Road we set off on the motorcycles and explored Chester, IL - river boats, Popeye the Sailor Man, Liberty Bell of the West and a covered bridge from 1854 - pretty awesome!
    Great riding on the Mississippi River Road.

I know these videos are a ways behind where you actually are but, I’m hoping you two were not in any of the area’s where all those terrible storms and tornadoes were on the 10th of December. • @debbiejohnson1441
      @debbiejohnson1441 2 года назад +1

      A trivet is either silicone or wire. You place in in the pot of a instapot or cast iron skillet to minimize the contact od the food to the heat source. It allows the meat to stay out of the we source at the bottom of the pot or pan. Or it keeps the food of the bottom of the pot or pan to keep it from scorching or burning. They come in all shapes sizes and or heights. If you have a instapot you might have one that came with it. Sorry I took pictures of some but can't import into this. Go to instapot trivet and it will show you some. Amazon. Very handy. You can also use them to see hot pots and pans on. I use mine also on my Blackstone with a dome to cook cinnamon rolls and biscuits. Takes a few minutes longer but better than heating up the camper. Usually I carry my airfryer. But if not I improvise. You do need to lower the heat and if you have a heat gun reader. You can adjust it to around 350 degrees. Not exactly on 350 but close enough.

    A bit of trivia regarding covered bridges. They were fairly common in areas with severe winter weather where roads had to cross rivers, so New England and central and eastern Canada.
    They were first built in the nineteenth century by engineers who designed coverings to protect the structures from the effects of the weather. More than 10,000 covered bridges were built across the United States between 1805 and the early twentieth century.
    Covered bridges are frequently called "kissing bridges". They are called kissing bridges because people inside the bridge cannot be seen from the outside, making them good places to kiss discreetly.

    I don't like 90 degrees either 😕. I was born in SW Texas ,but I hate hot weather. I've lived in NC now for a long time and I like cold weather overall better. Spring and fall are the perfect seasons, but too short.

      Thanks Tom. And yes, our bikes will always be the main focus of our channel. Our recommendation on the GRR is do it in the spring or late fall. Or have something with air conditioning you can escape to.

    The secret to eating pawpaws is hold it with your first 4 fingers and squish the meat out of the skin as you eat it cause the skin sucks, but the inside is awesome and you don't wanna mix them and you can't actually peal it cause its to much like a banana and will just turn to mush as you handle it. Its best to look for the ones in the creek thats already turned purple. Only problem with that is that you'll step on a hundred trying to find one where they look like river rocks once they rippen and turn purple. Worth it tho, they actually starting to get harder and harder to find around here sadly

      Thanks Silverghost! Yes, Popeye brought back some childhood memories for us as well. Every year the good folks of Chester IL erect a new statue of some character from Popeye. I think they're up to 18 or 20 statues in all and more to come.
