short version for review & pondering
    1. Learn the difference and don't worry about stuff you can't change.
    2. Our interpretation of events determines how we feel, not the events.
    3. Discard your ego so you can learn from everyone and everything.
    4. Tough times show our true mettle.
    5. Don't talk about your philosophy: embody it.

Ryan another absolutely outstanding video, full of wisdom and impeccable content. We can learn so much through Epictetus as not only was he wise beyond belief, but he also lived by the way of his words and conquered so much adversity and allowed it to let him grow as a human. And we all need to look for positives in every situation, regardless of how bad it is. The situation can't always be changed but to take some form of positive from it, is of paramount importance. Best wishes and stay safe and well to you and your family buddy

    1. In life our first job is this, to divide and distinguish things into two categories: externals i cannot control, but the choices i make with regard to them i do control. Where will i find good and bad ? In me, in my choices.
    2. It is not events that disturb people, it is their judgements concerning them.
    3. To throw away self conceit. For it impossible for a man to begin to learn that which he thinks that he knows.
    4. The true man is revealed in difficult times. So when trouble comes, think of yourself as a wrestler whom god, like trainer, has paired with tough young buck. For what purpose? To turn you into olympic class material.
    5. Never proclaim yourself a philosopher: show them by actions.

Epictetus is Brilliant :) Embodiment of Personal Truth is Obvious in Every Moment, it's as it is & it's all around (Everybody & Everything is the Embodiment of the Truth that is Practiced Daily)...The Talking is Also Important :) the Video is Doing Just That: Talking, Forwarding Knowledge, Talking & Speaking as an Action too :) How Would Otherwise Epictetus Forward All this Greatness into His Followers? Therefore it's Important both to Embody & to Eloquently Express Self according to Given Moment in Time 💓

@@arunsawdekar820 - I really enjoyed The Art of Living: the Classical Manual on Virtue, Happiness and Effectiveness, as interpreted by Sharon Lebell (Kindle version). It's written in a very modern, readable prose, and I found myself highlighting just about everything in there; I've also gifted it. I also have The Good Life Handbook [Enchiridion], as interpreted by Dr. Chuck Chakrapani, but I can't remember off the top of my head how much I've read or my overall impression of that translation (another reason to re-read these regularly).
Honestly, though - as Ryan has mentioned in various DS podcasts and emails, I think there's a lot of value in reading different translations of the same works. IIRC, there are some free/very inexpensive ebook versions available on Amazon, so there's no real downside to giving those a go. I might give Joe's Penguin Classics recommendation a try :D.
Ryan talks about and recommends the Hayes translation of "Meditations", and I think at some point, I'll probably get a hard copy of that, but I have the Oxford World's Classics translation by Robin Hard (again, an ebook), and I find it also very readable. I should state that I really dislike stuffy, overly verbose and antiquated translations of anything (one of a dozen reasons I'll never read the KJ version of the Bible, for example), and these translations are not that.

the discourses of Epictetus changed my life. I am reciting the prayer in the book every day: Under no circumstances I will find fault with god and his gifts, I WILL NOT SHY AWAY FROM LIFES ESSENTIAL TASKS AND TRIALS. Lead me oh God lead me oh destiny to the goal I was long ago assigned. If my will proves weak, I must follow still. Fate guides the willing but drags the unwilling. The book is so full with wisdom that it cannot be digested in one read. I am re-reading it on and on finding new jewels all the time. It stresses one of the most difficult aspects of human existence, which is accepting fate and use every hardship to improve in virtue, the only thing that matters, because after all the only thing in our control is our character.
