Only one poster got this correct - you need yellow goggles/eyewear to filter out the proper wavelengths - THEN it will work. Semen won't show up on any background without the proper wavelength filter.
Oh but it will. It has got to be the proper wavelength. UV of 390 to 400NM. Not just any black light will work. do your research. I know that may be to much for same to do. Google is your friend.

Seaman is ONLY florescent under UV when it is dried out. And then it fluoresces a yellow/green color. Use something other than white to put the seaman on. Like black or something. So you can see it florescence more easily but the most important thing is to let the seaman dry COMPLETELY and make sure you have UV light. And turn all the other lights and monitors and tv's off when you do it. It does not fluoresce as much as white colored objects but it DOES FLUORESCE DEFINITELY
he's right; i tested it a while ago using TWO black light 4' T12 bulbs. 40W each. very powerful. i tested it on a fresh sample, then left it to dry. it never lit up. it was extremely powerful for other materials though. i recommend it. look for the big UV bulbs at home depot.

It's not a myth. It has to do with the bonds of the molecules. They are able to absorb the energy form the UVC emitted from blacklight. They will emit photons back to us in the visible spectrum :) However your light is probably not powerful enough.

the blue uv light doesnt work, you need a blacklight...the purple looking fluorescent bulb used for blacklight posters.
