    White Rose is set up as kind of a parallel to Elliot. White Rose also experienced trauma, was disillusioned by society, filled with rage against it's injustices, and had a fantasy of making the world a better place. White Rose's journey ends with her finally embracing her true identity, similar to the reintegration of Elliot's personalities. But she does not let go of her grandiose redemption fantasy, doesn't embrace reality, and chooses a tragic end. I think it's supposed to show what happens if the Mastermind never relinquishes control.

      I'd be really interested to see the perspective of a trans person that watched this show. Trauma and identity do intertwine in complex ways, but it is fraught setting up an implicit connection between gender identity and dissociative identity, and mental illness more generally. As is casting a cisgendered actor. And making her a villain. But so much of this show takes the (often misunderstood and misapplied) themes of movies like Fight Club, American Psycho, The Matrix and explores them more deeply with meta commentary. Fight Club was a critique of toxic masculinity not a celebration of unleashing rage (and ends before we can examine the aftermath of it's version of 5/9.) Lilly Wachowski says The Matrix was always intended as trans allegory (and ironically the movie has been widely embraced by misogynists and right-wing conspiracists.)
      A lot has changed in the last 10 years, for good and bad, so I don't believe the show would have been written and cast exactly the same way today. As an outsider, I think the show was nuanced and sympathetic in regard to White Rose, and didn't make the character trans arbitrarily as a way to imply the villain was perversely evil. I also think BD Wong turned in an amazing performance, and casting an LGBTQ actor was probably better than most productions had done to that date. Season 2 did cast a trans actor as a trans character that made brief appearances.

    I loved your reactions to this amazing show! Just wanted to drop this one thing here, about Original Elliot:
    The Elliott we see in this Fantasy World is not at all like the real Elliott, we actually saw him in some Flashbacks. Always in just a black T-Shirt (without the Hoodie). Like the first meeting with Shayla and the day Darlene showed up.
    In this Fantasy world he is the way he maybe could have been, if all these conditions were met.
    Real Elliott is probably very much like the Mastermind, with the only difference being that the Mastermind actually has the drive to do, what real Elliott only dreams about.

    These reactions were a blast! Tbh this is the only Mr robot reaction series I’ve watched fully through and it was a joy to relive all these moments with you! As for unanswered questions, honestly I think it is well fitting the spirit of this show that it leaves us with a bunch of them. Did whiterose's machine work? Maybe, maybe not. Personally, I’d like to think, that with all the conspiracies and stuff going on this universe, that it DID work, but… it doesn’t really matter, Elliot’s speech in 4x11 really cements his belief that even if the machine did work, creating a "new world" wouldn’t solve anything, to suffer, to endure, is to be human, and having the right people by your side makes it worth it, we break, but we keep going, so this world is not one which can be so easily given up on. (Although there is also a bunch of like side stuff for this show that Sam did, I think at one point he created an in-universe subreddit that mentioned a "particle collider being built in a power plant" although also in that subreddit the "users" would joke about the guy who said that dying cuz after he made that post he stoped posting forever.) Tyrell is also a mixed bag, anytime someone asks Sam what’s going on here usually responds with a joke lmao, he once said the screams in the forest were the screams of Tyrell’s wife from that one episode where she gets paint dumped on her and her scream is muted. Although knowing Sam, he coulda passed it off as a joke when it’s an actual hint. Maybe Tyrell did die, I feel like a lot of these shows kill characters to show that death and tragedy can strike outta nowhere, but Tyrell's death seems, purposeful, in a way. I believe he did die, he was always afraid of being nothing, which is why he wanted power at e corp, and to be a "god" with Elliot, and in that moment, knowing he had nowhere to go, he was powerless, so he walks into the fog, waiting to die, he’s lost everything, so what now? The blue light obviously could mean the blue screen of death, it could be referencing the color of his wife’s earrings he gave her earlier in the show. Although, like you pointed out, when Darlene is talking to the mastermind, she mentions that everything up to this point is real and has happened, which makes me think maybe the blue light was something physical, but if so… what? (There is a the whole Tyrell is Elliot theory which says that the blue light is the light of the vital tracker in the hospital next to Elliot’s bed, this theory actually has some support behind some deleted scenes, but doesn’t really make since when you think about it) Anyways, enough rambling, just thank you for making these videos man, these reactions have been some of my favorite parts of my day, you really did great with these series, and I’ll definitely be sticking around to see what else you do on this channel (The bear season 3 soon 👀) but yeah, great reaction, as always 🔥

    I wonder how many people know the disorder Elliot suffers from is a reality ( DID = Dissociative Identity Disorder ).
    Coincidentally, I was learning about DID and studying patients with DID during the same period I watched the show for the first time.
    Many people state Mr. Robot is "a copy" of the movie Fight Club,
    but that's like saying Interstellar is a copy of Star Wars just because they both take place in space.
    Sam Esmail was familiar with DID before creating the show, knowing someone personally who has it.
    Even religions have struggled with understanding DID for centuries, leading to the many stories of possession, trying to perform exorcisms on these poor people.
    It's only since last century that we started to really understand DID as a psychological condition.
    And it's really how it's portraited in the show, with patients having gaps in their memories due to their alters taking over.
    One of the patients I've seen was shown footage of her as another personality, but upon seeing the video, she didn't remember any of it.
    Again, I genuinely wonder how many people realize the realness of the show because I don't see much of it discussed, and it not being some gimmick "inspired by Fight Club".

    I don't think they were planning on a Darlene and Leon spin off. I think it was more just a funny reference to all the times shows will hint to a spin off at the end of their final seasons

  • @Who_istomorrow
    @Who_istomorrow Месяц назад +3

    One of the hints that this was not the real Elliot, but another personality, it seems to me at the end of season 1, when MR came to "Elliot" - "I think we should talk" (after "Elliot" found his father in the photo). MR literally said then that "... people are afraid of US", then you would think that he meant Elliot and his MR personality, but no one was afraid of Elliot, people were afraid when Mr. Robot and the Mastermind appeared (not knowing that it was the Mastermind). "US" is a hint that "you are just like me, only a part of him". That they're both Elliot's personalities. It's just that MR couldn't tell him then.

    Elliot wasn’t much different to Mastermind, Mastermind was just more extreme and angry. Remember Olly saying “I forgot about your no touching thing” Elliot was already like that

    • @paradisevendorsinc
      @paradisevendorsinc Месяц назад +3

      Yup even if Elliot is in control all those aspects of his personality are still there. The show takes license depicting dissociative identity disorder, but I also see DID as a metaphor here for anyone with a childhood that impaired forming a stable identity. Trauma responses, wounded inner children, harsh inner critics. The session with with Krista in the finale is a representation of Internal Family Systems therapy, which is not a treatment for DID and does not see subpersonalities as separate identities that take turns.

So he was working hard to create a better world for the Real Eliot yet now he's gonna leave him live and suffer from his actions? I don't get that part.
