I love review channels which ACTUALLY test the microphone quality with examples. Nicely done. But it also shows that the mic quality of BT headsets can suck big time (btw: that Orosound mic was clipping/crackling like crazy!)... 😁😇
And it makes me even more mad at my Jabra Evolve2 85. Apart from freezing randomly, Sidetone still useless after the 4th firmware upgrade, cracking at every head movement and Busy Light only working with the dongle - the mic quality really is just sub-par. And all this for a premium price...
Just for reference my previous office headsets: (nowadays I prefer on-ear and ANC and boom-mic)
-GN / Jabra BIZ 2400 (great mic, headphone sound suck)
-Jabra Evolve 75 (mic not really that great; on-ear isn't just for me)
-Sennheiser MB-660 (boomless; sub-par mic quality for a premium price)
-Sony WH-X1000M3 (boomless; good as headphones, but sucks at mic quality)
-Poly Blackwire C5220 (just to try wired again; sidetone unuseable, constant crackling noises in the headphones, weird headband)

Microphone sound wise and based on it's ability to isolate surrounding noise and only capture the focussed voice, I think the poly voyager focus was the obvious standout. I have the older model made by plantronics and glad to see that the sound fence tech is still there and still the best. Not sure about the "intelligent mic muting" feature as this wasn't on the older models.
I've been working and conferencing from a remote location, often noisy environments like a shared office space, from a car while driving etc. and the voyager focus has been a stable part of this environment. I've tried a few others, including evolve 65, etc. voyager 5200, but none of them seem to do the noise fence as well as the focus.
I've even resorted to using "Voicemeter" on my laptop to implement a software noise fence. I sometimes use this in combination with whichever headset I happen to have. The voyager focus pretty much does without me having to use voicemeter. ANyway, I will liekly get another set based on what I heard in this review.

I listened to the entire video from the 2-85, and the best sounding microphones are the Poly Voyager Focus 2 and the evolve 2-75. You are right, the 2-85 is amazing for listening quality and noise reduction, but the mic unfortunately feel (and sound) not at the same level. Hi Srikanth, that's a hard one for us to answer because both sounded good but we gave the slight edge to the Evolve2 75. Although the microphones are comparable, it's all around an upgrade to the Evolve 75.
You can't go wrong with either. If you don't need the improved ANC, mic noise cancellation, ability to hide the mic into the headset, longer battery and updated USB-C connection for charging, the Evolve 75 is still a good way to go if the price difference is significant.

Wow, what a great careful review. I have the SONY WH1000XM5 - surprised that it didn't make it onto this list - however here are my problems with that headset.
    1) Heavy 8.8.
1.5) Tends to press in on my ears AND on the top of my head -can give me a serious headache by the end of the day. My work around for this works OK but looks ridiculous - a soft cloth padding all along the inside of the headset.
    2) Turns off randomly at least once per shift. I work as a triage nurse so that is a serious problem.
    3) Each time it turns off I have to reconnect it too and also reconnect it to my Citrix Jabber - time consuming.
I was thinking of getting a headphone that has a dongle or USB just to stop that kind of problem - would it be effective?
Thinking of the final 3 headsets, will consider.

Both demos suffer from serious roll-off in the highs that kill presence. Plus there is a noticeable distortion. The camera mic and of course the Rode mic are much better, although the Rode would need some acoustic treatment in the room. However, they don't do well without noise cancellation. Would the Rode in a treated room running Krisp work better? I wonder.
I am only comparing the sound from a cheap headset, laptop, and phone speaker but the sound degradation is quite obvious in all three.

I enjoy walking around my neighborhood while talking on the phone. I'm on the phone a lot. This issue I'm having in a big way is the WIND. It blows hard and I can't go on walks while talking. I was hoping you could point me in the right direction as to the right headset so I can go on walks while talking and that would cancel out the noise for me sure but more for the person that I'm on the call with. If you could assist me here it would be much appreciated.

    • @HeadsetAdvisor
      @HeadsetAdvisor 2 года назад +1

Hi Ryan, most models we can think of will have limitations in that regards. When wind is blowing directly on the microphone it's unavoidable to prevent the wind from fully being picked up. The best thing you can try is choosing either one of these headsets on the video and getting a microphone windscreen to help as best as possible.
The Opencomm UC seems like it would be a good model for you to consider.
