- Taking a look at the official Mercedes footage of the new C-Class, and in this video you can see the demonstration of the DIGITAL lights that this car has (as an option).
The new C-Class is equipped with LED High Performance headlamps as standard. The DIGITAL LIGHT system familiar from the new S-Class is available as an option. This revolutionary headlamp technology allows new functions, e.g. the projection of guide lines or warning symbols onto the road ahead. The AIR-BALANCE Package provides an individual fragrance sensation in the interior. At the touch of a button or by voice command, the holistic "Fit & Healthy" approach of ENERGIZING Comfort provides a tangible experience of the different comfort systems in the S-Class, and features programmes that group them into worlds of experience.
DIGITAL LIGHT: extremely powerful with optional projection functions
The new C-Class is equipped with LED High Performance headlamps as standard. The DIGITAL LIGHT system familiar from the new S-Class is available as an option. This revolutionary headlamp technology allows new functions, e.g. the projection of guide lines or warning symbols onto the road ahead. DIGITAL LIGHT has a light module with three extremely powerful LEDs in each headlamp, whose light that is refracted and directed by 1.3 million micro-mirrors. The resolution is therefore more than 2.6 million pixels per vehicle.
With these dynamics and precision, this intelligent system creates virtually endless possibilities for high-resolution light distribution which optimally adjusts to the surrounding conditions. However, the deciding factor is not only the technology in the headlamp, but rather the digital intelligence behind it. On-board cameras and sensor systems detect other road users, powerful computers evaluate the data plus digital navigation maps in milliseconds and give the headlamps the commands for optimally adapting the light distribution in all situations. The result: optimal vision for the driver without dazzling other road users, as well as innovative functions with added safety. "DIGITAL LIGHT" is not chasing world distance records, but rather wants to achieve excellent visibility and maximum, dazzle-free brilliance at all times through an innovative overall concept. Innovative functions for supporting the driver and enabling communication with other road users significantly improve safety when driving at night.
DIGITAL LIGHT with projection function is available as an option. This system can make driving safer by projecting guide lines, symbols and animations onto the road.
-For example, DIGITAL LIGHT projects two guide lines when encountering roadworks. These roughly delineate the vehicle's width. The driver is therefore given even better guidance in the narrowed roadway.
-The intelligent technology highlights pedestrians in the danger zone with a spotlight function and clarifies their position with projected direction points.
-Drivers travelling against the prescribed direction on motorway slip roads or one-way streets are warned by a symbol. The same warning symbol appears before running red lights or stop signs.

Oh okay. Never heard of anyone needing to replace headlights on a brand new vehicle unless it’s really old. I mean sure, if you wanna drive that thing until the year 2080, it could happen but that is irrelevant for 99%. I don’t get those „it’s expensive to maintain or fix“-comments: WHO HAS TECHNICAL ISSUES IN THE FIRST 7-8 YEARS WITH A BRAND NEW MERCEDES BENZ?

A 3 year old BMW with Laser light got moisture into the lights, because it wasn't a external damage the costumer had to replace it himself, 2500 dollars. That happened at the same time when I had a warranty job on my car. It's more Common then you think

What's the point of projecting symbols only meant for you? A HUD does the same thing while working during the day and being less obnoxious
But when you drive you can't look on hud always,aspcialy in the night time,when you have to be more concentrated on the road

The HUD does not do what this digital projection does. It also sounds like you don’t know what a HUD is for. It literally keeps your eyes on the road and not inside the car.

Crazy thing I’ve had these digital lights on my E Class since 2017. Only thing new and different now is the road symbols

not really the same. I have a 2018 E class and a a 2014 CLS with matrix. The CLS headlights are much, MUCH brighter and better.
The multi beam? Have them on mine too. Love the high beam functions

When audi made matrix smart headlights that could cut cars, people, etc. so as not to blind them, mercedes did not even dream that it could do such a thing, plus the dynamic signals that were also made by audi.
The dynamic turn signals are just a gimmick. It doesn't add anything to the car except aesthetics.
Mercedes offers Multibeam LED for the A Class. You can't get Matrix LED on the comparable A3, not even as an extra. No matter who got it first, MB is in the lead.
If you really want to talk about innovation and inventions and who got it first, lets talk about AWD, ABS, ESP, Air Bags, superchargers, crumble zones...
Also, this looks a lot like etron digital matrix headlights, actually almost feature by feature. So Audi R&D is ahead, as usual. I would tend to think though that the actual execution would be better with MB.

Yeah my r129 has this and when it stops working you have a driver side headlight that is a little lower than the passenger so ita super annoying

Since the MercedesMe App that drives this will not be available in the U.S. until December 2024, how does one know if his car is equipped with this system? Can it be looked up by VIN or is there a code in the list of options bought?
UPDATE: My 2023 C-43 has LED High Performance headlights, so not digital projection.

You’re misinformed. These are the futuristic ones that actively dip/dim the beams so as “not” to blind you whether you are being followed or you’re the oncoming traffic! I believe you are referring to plug and play LED or HID bulbs that people put in a reflector housing that is not aligned to the beam pattern of the bulbs. Hence they always blind everyone!
@@AZHOLEN1 No. I live in Germany and we dont do that here. These systems will still blind me. Even if it's for a second it immediately kills my eyes.

Mine is a Subaru Forester with LED projectors and if it’s on an incline, the oncoming traffic will still be momentarily blinded as my Forester doesn’t have Matrix or Laser that’s supposed to deactivate the beam towards other cars. Maybe future software updates for LED matrix will make them deactivate faster? Either way I’m all for headlight tech progression!

Mercedes creating all these crazy futuristic "safe" headlights... All I know is that they still blind other drivers as crazy. Like all German cars, they are cool when you drive them but horrible when you have one in front of you.
No they don't. Laws regulate the dazzling effect. If you have shitty lights or only one light then the car will struggle to detect the car.

I own a w205, so basically one generation prior to this one in the Video. Mercedes should focus on build quality, instead of overengineered headlights. The thing is junk. Every hyundai would bring better quality nowadays. Damn shame
