is it really midwest emo if theres not either
1. a capo
2. in an open tuning
Shhhh be quiet you 😂
it’s more midwest with no capo imo
It’s proper Midwest emo if it makes you feel 16 and bummed but happy to be there... amongst the cornfield and fresh snow...
I miss Ohio and being a bummed 16 year old... 😔
All that and the fact that it’s a tele 🤟🏻
Technically, yes.
amen brubber
So many basement show memories are flooding my mind right now as I hear this
😊👌
This tone is unreal
No it's real. Real basic overdrive. Really achievable. Real meh.
@@xsisterwifex and you gotta strum those strings hard af
@@xsisterwifex You must be fun at parties. The part of it being unreal is the emotional connection many people have to that specific tone. And you can't dial that in on an overdrive pedal, you simpleton.
@@smaller_cathedrals I don't compute. But my band from Wednesday night church group said I was "somewhat'' fun at our last Laser Tag party so up yours Chief!
@@xsisterwifex yeah, I mean it's super easy, but I still certainly like it.
This tone and guitar is literally my dream set up
Jake Barnett easily done
gross
You'll be easy to please then
Not when you have no fucking money
Don’t give up, even 300$ can sound very good. Just find a worthy guitar master to fix it)
I think the telecaster is the guitar that has and will stand the test of time. Its sound is so universal, but yet recognizable
Ehhh the strat is a bit more important overall. Telecaster is important but fender could survive without it.
Telecaster is the true workhorse guitar.
@@thenightstocker3219 Although having less features, I feel like a Tele is still more versatile.
LurchingDeath strats are so boring. Teles les Paul’s and weirder stuff is where it’s at
@@AFN2750 That's just straight up wrong
After working at a Guitar Center for several months and handling basically every model of guitar out there, I've come to absolutely love Telecasters, they have the best damn necks.
id the majesty by musicman/sterling is literally a marvel of guitar neck design imo
EGC aluminum necks for me
That's just Fender, in general. Jazzmaster, Jaguar, Duo-Sonics, Jazz bass, P bass and, yes, Strats all have great necks.
Even better than the Ibanezes?
You know, I didn’t really know what you meant by Midwestern Telecaster tone, but I instantly recognized it when you started 😆

The Getup Kids, The Early November, and [fill in the blank] just had a baby and I'm ready to buy the album! Very nice!
I've been working this into a full song. I have a full guitar part for it recorded, and will be working on the bass and drum tracks later 👍
Texas is the Reason
Even some early taking back sunday
It's definitely get up kids tone
At the Drive-in.
Thank you! Now I know which guitar I surely want!
amazing as always
cheers!
I keep waiting for someone to start screaming “LETS GOOOOOO”.... either that or Japanese singing
Dababy?
This is exactly what I was expecting in my head when I read tha title on my home page 😮
Excellent! Haha
love this!!
Thanks!
This is spot on
Thanks Steve
Banger mate!
Banger on a 6 string banger
Reminds me of the tone they used on the album “They Want My Soul” by Spoon.
Absolutely love it.
bro
this hit different
Reminds me a bit of old Hawthorn Heights... ohh the nostalgia!
I love this toooopne
Awesome
Love it.
Thanks!
Cool!
I love Movements too!
This is fucking gorgeous and nostalgic at the same time. Also, beautiful guitar.
Nailed it
You’ve inspired me
My Tele will always be my first love
It's all in the 3 saddle bridge!
What is this lovely song
All telecaster tones are beautiful.
Just wanted to say that I've been considering something like an Iridium for awhile since I can't use a real amp in my small apartment, and I really appreciate you featuring it in videos that aren't just blues riffs. No shade to folks who are into that kind of thing, but it's just not really relevant to the kind of guitar playing I do.
@Cat playing guitar On a guitar I love Andy for this reason; he's the best. I recommend checking out SpiralCasterPlaysPedals too.
fuck that was amazing
That’s classy
Gives me jank vibes 😳❤️
I have a Headrush (amp modeling pedal board” and I use my Gibson Les Paul with p90’s into a clean fender amp with a tad bit of chorus and a little spring reverb and it sounds amazing
Nice!
P90s are the best pickups. You have chosen wisely.
I got myself a FGN (Fujigen) Boundary Telecaster and goddamn, I love the sound so much! Been playing a lot more Radiohead and some TTNG, it's so so much fun ^^
Radiohead, TTNG, and death grips? You've got some varied tastes man love it
Maciekovic damn a death grips, TTNG, and Radiohead fan- you sound like my kind of guy
The telecaster, my one true love.
You're my favourite youtube guitar guy
reminds me of armor for sleep, sounds great.
The best I way I got it when I used to make music like this was try to make a clean tone in your dirty channel , also bridge/ middle pickup
I feel attacked because that’s my actual tone. Oh no... 😂😂
Now this is what I'm talking about 👍
idk why but i was encapsulated by this
This is real friends basically. Kudos
I have like 6 guitars. But I need a tele. Someone please stop me Jesus
Same. Except I want a classic tele and a metal tele and every other guitar I see
No. Go and buy one!
Do it. 😈
You have 6!? And here I thought 18 was bad.
My son and i just came across a Squire Bullet Tele in red glitter at Guitar Center and man that thing was nice feel and sound, it was like $179 and worth it. My son plays G&L Asat's for his tele style guitar but they are loaded with their MFD puck ups which are "hot".
gnarly
Ok people huge favor please? List bands that sound like this so I can listen and jam to please?
Just google midwest emo bands.
How do you get that tone? I know you've done a whole video on it but I've got an American special tele running into a Vox AC15 and I cant seem to get that tone
I have the strymon Iridium on the fender setting using a lonestar cab sim in stereo. The overdrive is a nux morning star overdrive. Really affordable pedal that's a great pairing with a tele 👌
On physical amps, specially vox (and tubes in general) you must be loud to sound good and compress naturally, the confidence of the picking counts too. Vox tends to sound shrill, so the tone pot can be a major helper along with the volume knob
@@Mathcartney plz let's stop the nonesense of "toob amps needs to be loud to sound good" it's been debunked countless times. I have a 30w tube amp and get killer tones using it at low volume in my bedroom . You only need separate gain and master volume controls
@@Mathcartney Tubes sound the best when they're NOT being pushed to hell and beyond, and if you actually want clean note seperation and therefore a "sparkly" sound, you should get any sort of drive from hard clipping.
fu zz cool, have fun with your fizzy tone, I like to play them loud in a band far away from my bedroom (50 and 100 watts, el34s non master volume amps). If you know a bit about power tube compression you gonna know that it isn’t debunked, in fact there are many things trying to mimic this in low volumes, including the Strymon iridium. For bedroom I like my helix just because of this, hahaha you’re the one talking nonsense here buddy
Cool riff but, after reading the description, I was hoping you were going to talk about how you got the guitar tone. Tuning, amps, pedals, effects, etc. Take us on your journey of how you set up to get the tone. Thanks!
Hello! An obvious thing that I overlooked. Apologies. When I recorded this I used an American Special Telecaster, Strymon Iridium on the round setting (basically a Fender twin reverb style amp) I had a compressor (can't remember which one) and an MXR il torino for the drive. 👍
Are you using the bridge pickup or neck? Thanks
@@parkerman23 I know this is two months later but for middle position is usually typical
Can you do a video on the chords and tunings you play for this video!
Great tone and chord progressions Bro. Just begs to have lyrics added
It does! I have made it into a full song ruclips.net/video/NmDmHkzHQ6Y/видео.html
but I'm yet to add any vocals
Do one for bass
So good! Stock pickups?
That last A6 chord was dandy
exactly why I want a tele
Holy shit
Sounds like the soundtrack to a early 2000s movie about middle school
I just want to know every setting to get this tone lol. I dig that tone on a tele, and I generally play phish style jams. That’s just a good cutting tone on a tele dude 👍👍
sounds like Freak Scene by Dinosaur Jr.
Gives me the feels. Need to rip some Benton falls
Oh hey, nice Dependence cover!
This is why I’m getting a tele
Sweet guitar man idk if you’ll see this but what size strings do you play on ? Do you think bigger or smaller strings are better for math rock and finger tapping ?
Cool song. Now let's talk about it

😊
Which pickup(s) are you using for this?
what kind is that tuning?
Amazing! What tune is it?
Can i sample this in my next álbum? I Will give you Credit, of course.
Sure thing 👍
The tone of dreams.
Yup that sounds like my first year of college
Sounds like The Pillows (FLCL soundtrack band)
TartTooth true
Giving me big totorro vibes
That Dance Gavin Dance
This Is a Math Rock for Someone with Nothing to Think About
Edit: I know it's not midwest emo but it's what it reminded me of
will it work with a tele with hums or p90s?
Sounds like The Cure almost.
I think you meant Indie, but that's cool. It's a great tone!
Dry....I like!
Can somebody let me know what the time signature is here. I count 15 does that mean it’s 15/8 or something like that
So.... The clean channel. Ok
What tuning?
What's your signal chain like here e.g. pedals and amp?
How do you get this sound?
is that an ebony fretboard?
Guess I'm just a sucker for some midwest emo cause I love this
There it is. There’s my youth.
Never really thought of a tele as something you would use to try and achieve this kind of sound but it’s perfect and I think my next guitar might be a tele
who's gonna tell him
Lol you don’t gotta tell me I know now 😂 I’ve owned a few since that comment
@@bigbongtokes707 the good outcome
Which string gauges are you using on your guitars?
I want a Telecaster…I’m broke though lol
Fabulous Killjoy get a Squire
Order off zzounds
Winston Churchill or a harley benton
Dean Edwards possibly, I only said Squier because I have a classic vibe tele and I'm very happy with it.
A Telecaster wants you too my friend.
how do I do this
what kind of pedal are you using? or are u just using overdrive?
Wow yeah. Emery
can i sample this?
Sounds like Kurt Travis stuff
Lol literally my thoughts too
Ah yes the tone I’ve been searching for my entire life
Well... It's always been there. Tele into a Fender.
Right in the middle or just the bridge pickup?
Middle 👍
Which telecaster is this? Mexican, American, Japanese? Also what pickup is being selected, just the bridge? Also what amp are you playing it through? I love this tone!
Thanks! It's an American Special Tele. I changed the pickups to pure vintage 64 Tele pickups. I think I was using a MXR il torino overdrive into a strymon Iridium pedal for this one 👍
