This is the life so many of us has lived. This compilation is a very comprehensive look at San Diego surfing thru the years. Well done crew and thanks for a decent representation of one of San Diegos most important assets.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. A thought, is Bruce Brown one of the coolest cats in American culture...ever? He get's my vote. Thank you Mr. Brown and CBS 8 and all who compiled this treasure trove of footage. Man, the good ol days were they ! Miss the simpler times.
Really enjoyed this. Thanks for putting it together and sharing it. I am new at surfing and it's interesting to dive into surfing's history. I remember friends of mine who really caught the Endless Summer fever and have been surfing since the mid 90s because of that movie.
Thanks everyone for the great comments. You may enjoy our skateboarding special -it also has 1960s film. Sidewalk Surfing: A dive into the CBS 8 archives and skateboarding: ruclips.net/video/73PSvg43cWQ/видео.html

My sister and I surfed Law street everyday in the late 60's her name was Debbie and mine Cheri Lynch. also two other surfing sister had the same names Debbie and Cheri Melville! I ended up moving to Hawaii and my daughter Bethany lost her arm to a shark! Debbie Mellville became a successful pro surfer!
Hi Cherilyn! We wanted to say it is you in the Lyle Bond interview but the only confirmation we had was from a Crawford classmate who commented on Facebook--and from your niece or nephew who commented on the original post--great to see you see it! You just never know what we'll find in the archives!
I grew up in La Jolla and have surfed all over San Diego, actually I have surfed all over the world. I have never ever considered surfing Tourmaline. I may have enjoyed a female’s company a night or two in the parking lot though.
San Diego must've been nice growing up in the 1930's 1940's 1950's 1960's early 1970's Nice presentation The woodies old woodie station wagons we're amazing cars Those boards are beautiful Sorry I never surfed landlocked Missouri
Mike Diffenderfer was one of the guys responsible for naming Ehukai break in Hawaii the “Pipeline” I don’t blame them for not wanting Tournaline surf Park. But it turned out to be ok. Not a great break and it closes out most of the time. But good for beginning surfers. I personally began surfing in 1980.
Skip is in our skateboarding special. We plan to do another with more 80s and 90s and if we have Skip and Larry in the archive, they will be in the next one. ruclips.net/video/73PSvg43cWQ/видео.html

San Diego was a beautiful, beautiful place to grow up (60s, 70s in North County). What a super high quality of life it used to have.
Yes. Simple times with a fraction of the population. Less is better sometimes.
I love this! So great to see a glimpses into the past and to see so many surfers having fun! This is the true spirit of surfing!!
Thanks for the blast from the past. So, cool to know Crawford girls were among the first surfers in san diego
My great grandfather is woody brown, great to see him represented here
Love to see these videos. Lived here for 30 years, but wasn't born here. Nice to see how a town evolves.

Rad to see the old footage of Todos Santos and some of the other waves out there on the islands. Everyone thinks its just Killers out there.
The quality of surf clips has improved a lot with drones and 4k cameras.
Can’t believe that’s the legendary Duke.
That was a fun surprise. We have photos of him in our archive but this is the only film thus far uncovered.

Met the surfing lynch”s at law street, with Marty and the crew at Rodger”s house on the corner at law street 😊
Surprised not to see Skip Frye or Larry Gordon. During the 90's they were at Tourmaline quite often.

We are still going strong at Windansea Surf Club.
...We lived on Playa Del Sur while my son Adam Graduated from La Jolla High, love the neighborhood ... ...Artist, Old Naples Florida🌴🎨
Tourmaline park is where I learned how to surf ironically 😅
Aweasome.I recogonized a lot of the surfers. MacMeda.
I wonder if kid interviewed at 3:27 is the infamous Dickie Cross who perished surfing in Hawaii?.
The interview is from 1965 so no.
Dickie Moon I believe.
Bolton Colburn,… ok, and I see he's got an EOS entry.
When it was awesome!
Just imagine where we would be as a sport if the air lubricated board had caught on.
