no, filipino as a language is rooted in one of the major languages in the philippines which is tagalog and then mixed with a lot of spanish words and a lot of borrowed words from other languages.

Filipino is the academic language which is a more formal form of Tagalog. Tagalog is one of the widely used dialect in the country. Most of the people in the entertainment business speaks English and Tagalog in the same sentence that I find really annoying.
