Yes. MoS is essentially a suite comprising Lonesome Traveler, Sante Sangre and Venice By The Sea (although the full running time should be 15:38, so not quite sure if this is a scosh sped up or missing the beginning of LT, the end of VBTS).
I hope they will never work together with a saxophonist again. It feels like you're floating around in some incredible dreamland and suddenly some very annoying elephant comes to irritate the sh*t out of you. There is very little coherence with the rest of the music.
Yes, I agree, and I hate to be critical because they are such an incredible amazing band.. what I was lost in their amazing sounds .... like lstening to battle music from Lord of the Rings ... And suddenly the squawking saxophone appears , no good for my erasers
Free jazz is an acquired taste for sure, I didn't used to like volume 2 for the same reason. Now I've realised it's a necessary 'evil' to retain that jam feel and juxtapose the beautiful, soothing tones, which they always end on - that's deliberate
Finally saxophone in a psyche band! Good Inspiration from Soft Machine by the way!

Yeah I know them. I like it but I prefer Causa Sui. This album (SS Vol 3) is just mind blowing.

Isn't from 3:18 actually Santa Sangre?

More or less similiar? If you ask me most of those doesn't even remotely resemble Causa Sui. Same genre, sure.
The saxophone is good but in my opinion it feels more pure/mysterious without it
