It's weird that the end sequence has the same lightshow the alien entity sometimes uses. Like it was trying to communicate with Caz in their shared final moments. Somehow throughout the game I got the feeling that the alien wasn't necessarily evil, but lashing out. In the beginning they mention that the drill encountered something weird, but Rennick told them to just bore through. Maybe that was some kind of skin barrier or exoskeleton, and the entity was essentially reacting the same way a person would to being stabbed in their sleep. Or maybe it was more like a human awakening to realize fire ants had built a nest around its body. All panicked scrambling and crushing ants to death and misery on both sides. Edit: I'm so glad this game didn't go down the "it was all a dream/metaphor for protagonists trauma", because the phone call at 46:00 gave me the wrong kind of cold chills. I'm so done with psychological horror as a concept, especially since this game still managed to give more emotional depth to its characters despite being, fundamentally, about horrible meat monsters.
The plot is very reminiscent of H.P. Lovecraft's short story, "The Color Out of Space" except that one is based on a meteor vs from under the ocean. Still, awakening something under the ocean is very Lovecraftian.
Cosmic horror with The Thing flavor for monster scenery...Quite impressed by this game! Being a bit of a nerd for oil rigs and cosmic horror is such a good combo too.
Having spent a fair amount of this viewing almost in tears at each death I should’ve expected the tears I went through at the end. Just incredible. Oh! And for fans of The Thing did you notice the main character’s name (MacLeary) is an awful lot like MacReady.
Absolutely floored by this game. Really nailed the cosmic horror and had me riveted the entire time. Very much reminds me of a quote from Homer. “And what if one of the gods does wreck me out on the wine-dark sea? I have a heart that is inured to suffering and I shall steel it to endure that too. For in my day I have had many bitter and painful experiences in war and on the stormy seas. So let this new disaster come. It only makes one more.”
I loved this, I really really hope they release an artbook, I'd love to get my hands on the concepts for this game Thank you so much for playing it kravin, it and the haar reawoke my love of cosmic horror lol I looked a bit more into this game, apparently it and the thing were inspired by a horror novella called "who goes there" and I am gonna have to get my hands on that
It was sad to see him go... I will not say anymore to avoid spoiling. 30:40 Technically... It's Rennick's, He forced roper to drill what ever they hit. And that flesh of gobblygaboop came out because of it.
Yup same here when I played through this game the ending messed me up but jesus Christ was it one hell of an experience I had no idea a simple 4 hour game would be this deep but it has incredible storytelling and voice acting it definitely deserves an award@@hightape8991
I love that they have Scottish accents. It adds that extra layer. Anytime I play a game that I feel isn't English based I'll change the voice. In AC vahalla I changed it to Dutch. Another game was based in France so I changed the voices to French.. just gives the game a whole new vibe.
I just wish there would have been more readable notes and letters and stuff like that throughout the game. I dont like games that have too much of that and rely on diary entires to tell you the whole story instead of having you plau through the story 😂 but in this case I would definitely have liked a little more lore.
Jesus they twisted the knife with that ending. Poor Caz I didn't think it would but I sure wanted a happier ending. I do enjoy how it's never explained what it is but I do wish we got to see just a bit more of what it really was. They really really nailed the cosmic horror aspect of this. This is genuinely one of the best horror games I've seen for a while, it was just SO well done in all aspects. It really made you care about the characters and the story and really made you feel the frantic horror and tragedy of it all. Also the BUILDUP was just so good.
RUclips needs to stay in their lane. They are being WAY too constrictive of their creators. They need to remember that they wouldn't exist without all of you. They need to remember that this is an age restricted platform. That they created RUclips Kids for KIDS and regular RUclips is for 13+. It's not their responsibility or place to cater to children on this platform. That responsibility lies with the parents. Period. And I'm saying this as a parent of 4. Sorry. Rant over. I just get really pissed off when companies just except the responsibility that the parents should have. It's 🐂💩. Entitled parents want to blame everyone else for their mistakes.
Just finished the game, really enjoyed it, but the ending kind of sucked and was really abrupt for me. Like you're mainly just running from place to place with tasks from people, and then just giving up at the end after 1 conversation. Agreed, the visuals and audio of it was amazing though. Overall I'd say like 7/10 for me
I would easily watch it if it were 5 parts of 5 hours each haha! It reminded me a lot of one of my favorite childhood horror films, The Thing! Great gameplay! I loved!
I'm pretty sure the "fins" were inspired by the vampire squid or something similar. They look just like that membrane between thin tentacles if you dunked it in oil. Anyway look up vampire squids, you'll see what I mean! Also, I loved this game from beginning to end.
God this was such a good game but ow my heart in this video I greatly appreciate never actually being shown anything further than the tendrils and boils that infected the ship, I don't need to know what's down there I just know it's fucking gnarly
Maybe Caz is already dead after his fall in the sea and this is like his pregatory? That is why the monsters can't get him? Can't wait to see the ending! Cool stuff!
They managed level design so nicely. There is obviously backtracking cuz it's a cursed oil rig but it doesn't feel horribly repetitive because the environment gets progressively destroyed and so changes up the gameplay little bits at a time. I still hate the swimming with a passion though.
thanks for the game to developers and thanks for the walkthrough. this game more like a movie.. top-notch. i even cried in the end and on the scene with Roy
My favorite "this will be my perfect form" Resident Evil boss is Morpheus from Dead Aim. That lightning-shooting tyrant with the high-heel feet is actually a pretty awesome form. Roy: Go on, I can get my insulin, it's just in my room. Also Roy: So, I couldn't get my insulin...
about the 9gig, most likely it´s so small because they reuse textures all the time, it´s a oil rig, and could also be compressed textures. a good looking game don´t take loots of space because it´s looking good. and about the comments about is this finley? i guess you only read the paper? because it actually said note from finley on the side. but i guess you maybe noticed that in editing.
It was to be expected but at least the big man did not turn into another crazy flesh blob monster 😭
i love caz’s voice actor, really playing the character well!!
I was just going to comment that, REALLY good voice acting and sound design.

Absolutely agree with the edit. I was getting out the torches and pitchforks for a minute there
This game was incredible! The story, the environments, the voice acting, it was all so good! Major props to the devs! Excellent!
It really was great! Can’t believe it was made by the same devs that made machine for pigs, which was pretty disappointing when it came out.
I am too damn pregnant for that ending, seeing the photos and the kids drawings broke me so hard. Sobbing like a big baby 😭

Devs were definitely inspired by The Thing

Moral of this story is to deal with the shyt you have done and not to run from it because you might end up in shyt that is even worse 😬
The sound for the tendrils is so visceral and unnerving. Love the audio design. Great game!
It was sad to see him go...
I will not say anymore to avoid spoiling.

I knew it was gonna end in complete tragedy from the very start but still that ending stung
Incredible game, and refreshing not just to hear non-Americans but to have one not set in a spoooky mansion in American Backwoods town #8
The scene when Caz was on the phone with Brodie got me.
totally. also when in the ending wife is telling that she loves him and wait him
Yup same here when I played through this game the ending messed me up but jesus Christ was it one hell of an experience I had no idea a simple 4 hour game would be this deep but it has incredible storytelling and voice acting it definitely deserves an award@@hightape8991
This game told it's story SO WELL!

This game heavily reminds me of John Carpenter’s The Thing. LOVE this game! Probably my favorite horror game of this year
TIL I still have submechanophobia! Thanks Kravin lol
Dead Space on an oil rig....
*Dead Sea*
This was so much more heavier than I anticipated going in
Story and voice acting were top notch. What a great game. ;_;
This was greatly enjoyable. Thanks for sharing the entirety of it!
Good lord, Donnelly...between the accent and the name, I assumed he was Irish until he had a little rant about scotch in ME3...
God, this was such a good game. And a good playthrough MrKravin!
Another big one coming in October is Silent Hill 2 remake.
Outstanding! Thanks for sharing it!
F* what an amazing game *still watching obviously* ❤ damn this is not a game this felt more like a movie incredible
No Return by BlameTech will be out this summer.

i like this video it was good
Shadowgate remake why do you hate me Mike Norris
Gotta love those nuggety pustules 👌
This was superb. The visuals, the story telling, the characters and the voice acting...incredible!! Phenomenal stuff 🏴
I would easily watch it if it were 5 parts of 5 hours each haha! It reminded me a lot of one of my favorite childhood horror films, The Thing! Great gameplay! I loved!
Comment for the feels. Engagement is the base reality to the characters, the gritty everydayness to them all.
Can’t beat scotch humor! I still love watching the old episodes of “Still Game” funny af! This has been a great game ❤❤❤
SUCH a good game. I binged watched all your vids of it in one sitting

What a beautiful emotional roller coaster of a game. 😭
Nobody lives forever. 🔥🛢️💥
Man sad roy n caz didnt make it
Really enjoyed watching your playthrough of this! Excellent game the devs nailed every aspect 👏
it's extremely sad about brodie cause he saves you from the water at the start and youcan't save him...the last words too. 'get home'....jesus.
Absolutely loved watching you play this! Such a great game.
Game idea.. iduno if you'd play it's more story then combat but Close to the sun? It's a bit older but it's pretty fun and spooky
That was a fantastic game! I was sobbing at the end. Each death hurt. Good job devs!
This was the wrong game to watch while eating sushi for dinner 🤦🏻♀️
Great playthrough! Enjoyed the story very much
ohhhhh, it was so tense! great game! thank you Mr.Kravin
How has the mainland not spotted... THAT?
I loved the Voice actors I think this game was awesome.
Im a sucker for RE type of game, awesome game
Well... I cried.
My favorite "this will be my perfect form" Resident Evil boss is Morpheus from Dead Aim. That lightning-shooting tyrant with the high-heel feet is actually a pretty awesome form.
Roy: Go on, I can get my insulin, it's just in my room.
