Hey man! Also from Phoenix removing a wrap that’s been on my car for 7+ years. The one thing that I found that worked on the left over adhesive is 91% Isopropyl Alcohol. Hear me out - it won’t lift the adhesive off onto your rag/towel, but it will allow you to bunch it up and then scrape/pick it off VERY EASILY. Don’t know if you will ever need this information, but hopefully it can help out someone who finds your video!

My roof is a nightmare. Cracking every 2-3 inches of pulling the wrap, and I have to pick at it again to get started. Zillions of peices and 6x as long as a normal panel. Heat doesn't help.
Yeah the hood and the roof was the worst. If it’s really brittle I would try using an adhesive remover wheel. I have one by 3M that works decent but you can get cheaper ones on amazon
I wrapped my car. It destroyed the paint. After I removed it, the entire car had to be repainted. Getting the residual glue off the paint prior to paint prep was the worst part. I’ll never wrap my car again.
B Rock 86 seriously contemplating taking it in and having it looked at by professional paint detailers to see if they can buff it all out. I wouldn’t mind paying to skip the hassle
B Rock 86 took it to the wrap shop that removed the wrap. Showed it to them and they knew exactly what to do. They sprayed the roof heavy with 3m tape adhesive remover and rubbed rigorously with clay bar. 15 minutes with 3 people and it was smooth
whiskeybravo11 I have recently mastered taking off plasti dip, goo-gone works good if you apply it on, scrub it a little, let it sit then ither put on one more coat or scrap off with a razor blade. More coats= better
@@randabuffer6562 wd-40 and a pressure washer works well on plastic dip also. Start a peel at the top and let it soak in behind it works best on big flats. Wheels like you said scuff it and soak it. Probably similar to goo gone.

So I would def wrap again. I will never plastidip again and never pay someone to remove it. I used to live in Michigan but I live in Surprise AZ now and I think the heat really speed up the degrading of the wrap
should of used the heat from the sun to remove it easier, to remove my hood wraps i leave the car on and that also helps to heat up the hood, beside using a heat gun.
FOR A GOOD SOLUTION: POD STEAMERS, LEAVE IN SUN, HEAVY SOLVENTS. AFTER, USE A GOOD ONE STEP CUT AND POLISH TO BRING BACK THE PAINT AND REMOVE ANY SURFACE SCRATCHING FROM REMOVAL
My hood wrap was on for 3 plus years and it was a NIGHTMARE to remove it. It took me and my girl 2 nights to remove it. It was cracked from the heat and literally was coming off in pieces like a puzzle
I have a T/A Challenger with faded wrap that i'm going to take off this weekend. I heard 3M adhesive removal is about as good as Acetone. I've also heard lighter fluid works really well.
@@BRock86 I worry about using lighter fluid or gas. The idea of what it would do to the clearcoat scares me . I'll def look into some 3M adhesive removal first.
Just throwing this out there. I have used vaseline or olive oil to get residue off from other adhesives. Cheap and easy to try. You'll know if it will work for you pretty quick.
Yeah the matte finish look awesome but it takes a lot more to take care of it since it doesn’t have as much of a protective layer over it. Chemical Guys makes some good products to protect it

Yes, the residue is really hard and actually still in a couple spots. The best thing I found to remove it is gasoline. The previous owner did the wrap so I’m not 100 percent but I’m fairly certain it isn’t 3M

@@BRock86 So I've been recommended by a friend to use 3m vinyl skins on my newly bought PlayStation and laptop(and I ordered and installed them), both have delicate glossy material. He claimed and I also have also have heard other people say that those high quality vinyl if removed with proper care don't leave any stickiness or residue and actually protects the console and keep it in pristine shape. However I have seen some RUclipsrs like Ckwrap etc complain about residue left on the cars, while people removing their 3m Dbrand vinyl wraps from their laptopa and iPads do it without a single mark left on the device. I'm kinda confused. Could you give me a better picture?
Yeah like new, honestly if the gasoline doesn’t work, you might be in trouble. I think the next step would try and wet sand and buff. Let me know either way how it goes

I used goo gone and then some isopropyl alcohol on the spoiler as a test spot and it almost worked 100% but it took SCRUBBING with a microfiber, of course, to get it there. Its hot and sunny outside right now so Im about to go try that out
In Phoenix... it takes only 1 yr for vehicle wraps to get spider webbed (cracked) from the sun. Surprisingly it lasted as long as it did in this video.
In such a case, would you try to put margarine on the material to be removed and wait for 1 day and then try to remove it, and write the results (I haven't tried it, but I wonder if margarine works in dissolving sticky substances, it works in asphalt tar)
I remove wraps for a living. While I would love to explain how do it best, I don’t want to put myself out of a job. What I can say, is that don’t expect this to be easy. Don’t expect your paint to look good after you get the wrap off. Don’t even start to think about how easy this will be… It’s not easy, and just getting the wrap off is likely the easiest part of removing a wrap. The worst part is getting the adhesive off the paint that is left behind. Expect getting the vinyl off, is only about 40% of the removal. So if you pay someone to make your car look like it did t have a wrap on it, expect to pay someone about what the cost of the vinyl was.

The longer it has been on the car and the more damaged it is it will be a lot harder. Before you start, leave the car outside in the sun for awhile. I’m not sure that gloves would help a lot. It was more the muscles in my fingers that were sore.

Really if you use a quality wrap, take care of it and don’t leave it on for to long you should be fine
this is why if a car is for sale with wrap, I offer 40% less (minimum) because of that. never know what damage/mess it caused

Damn! That is pretty much the worst case scenario when it come to wraps
wraps do not destroy paint, unless you used very bad vinyl, or already had bad paint, Wraps PROTECT and PRESERVE your paint
Any update on the left over adhesive on the roof? Got the same problem after removing the wrap off the roof of my bmw
I still have a little bit. I have yet to find the perfect fix. The 3M adhesive remover and stipe off wheel have worked on most of it.

Would blowing compressed air under the wrap help?
I don’t think it would. Really you want to get the wrap as warm as possible but not to the point at witch it tears apart when you pull on it.

Some of it came off easy but there are some spots where it is actually still there

5years is normal but its all about the vinyl!

Yeah. Apparently the wraps can get sunburnt and allow the flakes in the metallic to rust.

Do it! It is def worth it and I will be wrapping mine again in the future. Just replace it before it gets damaged like mine was

Was this a 3M brand wrap?
No, not a 3M but it was done by previous owner so I can’t confirm what it is
what ended up working to get the glue residue off? just peeled my wrap off and that glue wont come off
Gasoline. Put a little bit on a rag and then rinse with soap and water. I was able to most of the remaining glue off that way

Yo so I noticed if you leave the wrap on no longer than 4 years because it damages the clear coat

I get asked this a lot lol. The wrap was already installed when I got the car. Through my research I believe it is a discontinued Avery product.

That's why it's not worth getting a wrap imo, touch up paint and fixing chips on a car is not hard. Just wash and wax your car regularly.
From a paint protection standpoint sure but I think most people go with a wrap for the color change
