3 cyl internal combustion engine fires 3 times to complete one cycle after every 120° angle ( one cylinder at a time) In 1.2 L engine each cylinder capacity will be 400 cc, On the other hand 4 cyl engine fires 4 times to complete one cycle after every 90° angle (one cylinder at a time) In 1.2 L engine each cylinder capacity will be 300 cc. So, 4 cyl engine vibrates less because energy distribution is equally divided after every 90° angle turn of engine crank instead of 120° angle as in 3cyl engine. 🙏 👍
I have owned a Maruti Alto K10 for the past 14 years, I still love that car, It is easier to drive in the city and I have driven 520 km stretch on highways without any problem, huh maybe there's slight vibration in idle and above 100 km speed, which can be reduced by flywheel balance, but safety is more important (absent in Maruti) since newer generation people are irresponsible on road.

As far as I have been through, my 3 cylinder Tiago was delivering mileage of 15 to 16 (city without AC] while as 4 cylinder fronx delivers 19kmpl. (City without AC) both figures tank to tank. I feel 3 cylinder engine always remains in stress and we are forced to drive it in higher RPM resulting in less mileage....

Reality is that all auto manufacturers are exploring ways to reduce their cost without reducing the price to offset the low profitability on low demand of vehicles. None of the company is reducing price even using less parts in 3 cylinder engine. Breeza discontinued hybrid but no change in price.
3 cylinder engines are inherently dis balanced on both the transverse amd longitudional axis…4 cylinders are not…it is difficult to balance the 3 cylinder completly as it will add to the weight and complexity if the engine…but usually it depends ki how you have used counterweight to balance the engine…case in point Tata Revotron 3 cylinders very poor crank balancing…they try to reduce vibrations by using bushes and damping the mounts…as against the hyundia 1.0 turbo or the new z12 from maruti…they are better balanced and hence have lower nvh levels when you rev them…add to this The Revotron is just a poorly designed engine in general difficult to work on some of the critical components are hidden away from easy access so even a minor fault or correction needs extensive effort…vis a vis the korean and the japanese are much simpler to work with…i guess this is where their experience comes into play.
