For bringing the clutch lever closer to the bar for cheap, a tie wrap put in between the lever and the perch work amazing and you can use different size to customize your fit for cheap.
Great review, but most for people looking for an used up to 2018 model. The 2019 has got some great updates that may should be focused a bit more, I don't find the gearshift "clunky" on the 2019, it is perfect. The engine has also got some more torque. The new slipper clutch is super easy to operate, the handlebars is improved a lot too. You mention the new 19 inch front, but it also got longer travel suspension which in sum makes it better off road :-)
Hi Sven, I went riding with a T7 yesterday (I was on my '16 model CB500X) and your comments re size, weight and center of gravity were very apparent when parked side by side and on the gravel sections I was at the same speed 80 to 115 kph). The CB500X is a cute little bike. The Africa Twin AS 2019, some of you mention, is pure love, true. But cheap, easy or light she ain't. And man, is she tall. No comparison here!
The standard AT is bigger and heavier but honestly with the seat in the low position it's not much taller in the saddle at all. (5'7" 30" inseam) Pretty amazing that it has so much more travel and clearance. The difference between a street bike in "adventure" style and a bike built for "adventure".
Great little review, would be good to see how you went about your seat modifications, had a chuckle at your bar risers, considering your other video on suggesting not to put bar risers on bikes... Have a 2016 CB500X here in Thailand, I didn't realise it was 12,000 kilometer oil changes, I've been doing it every 4-5000klms? Shame about the suspension hey! Ah well, probably kept me alive not being able to go too hard in the Twisties!
personally i would stick with your current oil changes, edgar. i usually do them twice as often on adventure and road bikes as it simply seems to long an interval otherwise. sometimes i suspect the manufacturers are pushing those figures to make the bikes look more maintenance-free? i don't have any evidence for that but i know many of us feel the same way.
What do you think about the new 2022 updates such as the USD forks etc? I've had a Himalayan and now coming from a Tiger 800, XCX and am seriously contemplating this. I'm a little over 5' 9" and in my 50s. Too bad the new 2022 model actually gains a few pounds despite all the weight reduction. I do like the fact that I can flat foot it even in slippers. Haven't done a test ride mainly on account of no demo bikes being available. Would appreciate your suggestion. Intend to use it as a daily commuter in India. Heat, traffic and road conditions. Occasionally for touring one up.
I am coming from scooter when take it test ride i loved it but at 120-130km/h at highway i had vibrations and at 130-140 i had vibrations on footpegs its normally for this model. Im between 300cc scooter or cb500x. If cb has not vibration i would buy it already

Awesome video I am looking at getting a set of those foot pegs for myself I noticed on the website they say not recommended for off-road use is that more of just a liability thing what do you think about it
don't know max, unlike my last DR650 i'm not planning on jumping this or riding aggressively on single track so i'll never find out if they would hold up or not.
Max, the part that has more known issues on the 500X are usually the kits that change out the entire footpeg bracket to a dirt stance - even Rally Raid hasn't cracked that nut quite yet (they don't sell one, but others do). That said, Jenny Morgan of Rally Raid says she very rarely stands except on the most aggressive of dirt when riding her fully-modded 500X, so I might take that approach and not stress the pegs.
@@crosstrainingadventure im australian. not a fan of the dr in stock form. never really looked into the honda xr's, kawasaki KLR650 is the go imo but apparently that bike is coming to an end. the ktm's, the africa twins, the t700 etc are far too expensive for an entry level rider so without the likes of a KLR 650 there doesnt seem much to choose from. the 250's just dont cut it on the highway. cant even get the xr new anymore can ya? i want a new bike but im on a budget. think ima go the KLR 650 before the end of the year but i dunno..

If you could only have 1... CB w/ 120/90/17 front tire or DR650? The obvious CB for more pavement, DR for more offroad... but having never ridden either not sure which one covers their lesser area better. Lots of grey area but will the CB cross over into the offroad (nothing crazy) better than the DR handles pavement. (reasonable comfort is the concern) Typical day riding 1 to 1.5 hrs out to the fun stuff and then of course the same ride back. See a well farkled DR local that I may go check out.
Everyone would have a different opinion Jeff, but I don't think there's much overlap at all. The CB500X just feels like a road bike with the smallest possible mods to make it acceptable on a dirt road. Whereas the DR is great offroad but still has good legs on the highway and is comfortable once you fix the seat and get the ergos right (see our DR project series). And the DR is heaps of fun on twisty mountain roads too!
@@crosstrainingadventure Thanks for your feedback Barry. There's a nicely set up 2019 DR very close by that just popped up this morning. Might have to check it out over the weekend.
Very hard to say, depends on your torso/leg length and other factors.... chances are you'll be okay. Or might just want lower footpegs. Just sitting on the bike in a shop isn't much of a guide either, I felt good on the bike there. But five minutes of riding after I bought one, I knew I'd made a mistake!
Install a cheap extension to the top of the windscreen, it makes a world of difference. I put a $20 extension from Amazon on my cb500x and it’s a huge improvement.
@@crosstrainingadventurewith the full Rally Raid kit how well do you think these would do off-road? Mostly I commute/adventure tour, but I would also like something that can do some dual sport trail riding nothing too crazy and I don't need to be the fastest. i did sit on the bike in the shop and thought it was comfortable. but then i bought the bike and after 10 minutes it was very uncomfortable. but the mods fixed this.
@@crosstrainingadventure LOL Fair enough but it might be wise to wait and speculate on the possible-yet very belated appearance of the x 400 before forking over cash. Why oh why did Kawasaki use the 300 instead of going with the lighter and more powerful 400 that was presumably already available?
I haven't heard anything about the XR400 return but that could be good... as long as they don't slap heaps of extra weight on it! It is weird how the mid sized bikes are so neglected nowadays.
The water pump drops oil, not coolant, from 560km point. Handelbar wobble from new and the abs disc is touching the fork. In one year and 3500 km, I very close to sell it. I have a 2021 model. I thing Honda is a peace o shit those days. Now the handel bar wobble is worse, and the warranty doesn't give a shit on the customers. Maybe in other places is different, but in my country this is the situation.
Asta nu este o veste bună, Andrei. 🤔 The CB500X is made in Thailand but generally the quality control is very good. The dealer won't fix the bike under warranty? Did you contact the Romanian distributor/head office? Perhaps they might respond?
@@crosstrainingadventurei went to the warranty, they change the gaskets, but the pump still drops oil, and they tell they will solve the wobble isue, but they don't want to realy solve it. Now i'm wayting for a new pump, for over 3 weeks. I call them 4 days ago, they said that they will call me back, and thwy did not. Tomorrow i will go to them and see what I can do. Because today I put some weight in my top case, and the wobble is worse. On my old bike, a gs500e i used to put the same weight and I didn't had any problem.
@@Yowzoe I have sorted it with new tires, new stem bearings. But not on warranty. Honda did not want to change the tires even if they were garbage from factory. Only the water pump. But new bikes are more expensive in maintenance that older bikes. I bought it with the thought that 5 years I would change only the oil and filters....
@@SHT5029 I'm getting a used '22 with 1800 miles on it soon. Yes, the CB500X is supposed to be Honda-dependable. I hope you now have many trouble-free years ahead on your bike.

Hopefully he'll let you take it for a decent test ride Jeff, that way you should know pretty quickly if you'll like it or not.
Africa twin life!!!!!!!!
This is costlist bike in india cost around US $11,000/- in 500cc segment.. N u say its budget bike. 😍😍
Why is it so expensive, Ayub? Does that segment of the market have a higher tax rate?
@@crosstrainingadventure u r so lucky people some good bikes are cheaper there...
Would this suit 5'10 260lbs
Very hard to say, depends on your torso/leg length and other factors.... chances are you'll be okay. Or might just want lower footpegs. Just sitting on the bike in a shop isn't much of a guide either, I felt good on the bike there. But five minutes of riding after I bought one, I knew I'd made a mistake!
Wind buffeting to the head on the 2019.
Install a cheap extension to the top of the windscreen, it makes a world of difference. I put a $20 extension from Amazon on my cb500x and it’s a huge improvement.
There are rally kits available to make it offroad worthy
I saw those but then saw the price... ouch.
@@crosstrainingadventurewith the full Rally Raid kit how well do you think these would do off-road? Mostly I commute/adventure tour, but I would also like something that can do some dual sport trail riding nothing too crazy and I don't need to be the fastest. I have a mostly Rally Raid CB500X just came without the 17" spiked rear (broken).
Love your Chanel btw. I think you have one of the best for this sort of thing out there.
so I am 6'0" I would it fit
you might still want the footpeg and/or seat mods... i am six feet four.
CROSS TRAINING ADVENTURE or go to the dealer and sit in it
i did sit on the bike in the shop and thought it was comfortable. but then i bought the bike and after 10 minutes it was very uncomfortable. but the mods fixed this.
$2021 10,050 in Outback Aus.
Do the versys x 300
Buy me one and I will
@@crosstrainingadventure LOL Fair enough but it might be wise to wait and speculate on the possible-yet very belated appearance of the x 400 before forking over cash.
@@SHT5029 Sorry to hear that. Hope you were able to get it sorted.
HONDA, MAKE A LIGHTWEIGHT 650 VERSION, GET RID OF THE UGLY PARTS AND MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A SCRAMBLER!!! nobody is buying these to do rallies, so putting rally fairings on them is DUMB! Oh, and adjustable suspension that can adjust all the way to off-road capable would be great!!!
It's a two wheeled Honda Civic
yep that pretty much sums it up!
@@crosstrainingadventure yea, I got one too
I don't know anyone who doesn't love their CB500X... but none of them ride "real" dirt
In my instance... we used to.Thank You 2019 Honda cb500x.
ya I only ride on fake dirt. It looks the same, but defiantly fake:)
@@OregonMotorcycle my point was that none of my mates in the UK take theirs on dirt, not that no one ever takes them offroad! 🙂
Eh, my Storm is made in Japan, cheaper, 650V and is more of an off roader than this bike.
This is a street bike disguised as an ADV
A V-strom, Sam? Now that's interesting! My brother owns one so I've ridden both bikes. I always figured the V-strom was just a slightly modified road bike too, being based on an SV650 (which I've also owned).
@@crosstrainingadventure
The gen 1 shared the sv650s engine but that’s about it.
The gen 2 uses the engine out of the Gladius.
The VStrom is definitely more street oriented than say a GS but the Honda is even more street oriented than that.
(In my opinion)
Rip a wheelie on that thing.
It'll wheelie:)
it definitely does them. will i show this publicly? not sure yet lol
@@crosstrainingadventure Hey man it's no problem. Just zip on over to Mexico to do your stunts, like many other youtubers.
Nice bike don't be deterred by me bagging the shit out of it for 7 and a bit minutes. hahahahahahah
