I think Russia's goals around Kharkiv are "all of the above." Based on the relatively small troop numbers and the incursions being close to Belgorod city I think the primary objective is to create a buffer zone to stop the raids by RVC et al, but they would certainly also be hoping for a lucky break like the Ukrainians got in their Kharkhiv campaign in 2022.

It seems like Russia will never go on a wild offensive with major flanking maneuvers again. It's not that they do not have enough manpower or resources, I think it's more of that it's very very risky and could go south really quick like early days of war. They realize now that they would actually prefer chewing down slowly through the defensive lines via indirect fire strikes which their military doctrine has always revolved around. Spot the enemy then hammer it down with indirect. I remember watching another RUclips video where they have some kind of statistics on this war. As it turns out, firearms are the last in terms of inflicting casualty something like less than 5%. almost 90% of the casualties come from indirect. That's just insane numbers where there's literally minimal shoot out happening, and majority is just calling all these ordinances on each other's heads

    • @OnyxStudiosInteractive
      @OnyxStudiosInteractive 4 месяца назад +1

That's a good point, using indirect fires and missiles to take out the infrastructure and only take strategic areas instead of trying to maneuver across vast distances. Besides the Ukrainian army is obliged to come to them so they don't really have to maneuver all that much to make steady gains. Plus given the fact that they are prepared to keep going for the next 2-3 years means that time is on their side.

Hey man, so I’ve been thinking about the maps situation and have a few thoughts.
Maps being shown on most channels are super busy with tons of location names lines between countries, more lines on top of that etc. Jist makes everything far too thick to follow.
If there were a program to show a cleaner simpler map with blatant colors of what Russia has taken and then show some animation movement of clear direction whether it’s Russians or Ukrainians and their movement with highlights of the cities or town being discussed.
Constantly zooming in and out to show visual perspective is a huge plus!
Next, if there was a way to even move into an easy to make sense “3D” visual of the area, that would be huge!! It would show physical challenges mountains etc and help people really connect with what they are seeing. That combines with your superb dialogue would make it super legit!
I can guarantee that if you were to do this, which would at least in the beginning take probably a lot of extra time to edit, it would blast your channel off in an epic capacity. Why? Because no one, no other channel that I have seen is doing anything remotely close to that and because I believe the business of the current maps everyone are using makes it difficult to follow and actually starts losing people’s attention.
    Just my humble opinion!
Hope the Beez are doing g well! 👍🏼🙂

@@LeadLeftLeon NATO cannot defend the Baltics..... NATO has complete uncontested control of the Baltic Sea with Sweden and Finland having joined. Finnish forces alone could curb stomp a Russian advance into paste and remind them just how bad Russians are at fighting in forests and swamps.
Finland has an airforce of around 60 fully capable F/A-18 super hornets that are minutes away from the other Baltic states, Sweden has 71 Fighters JAS 39 Gripen. just between those two nations alone Russia would be unable to operate anywhere near the airspace of the Baltic nations completely ignoring the fact that Russian aircraft would be under threat from naval air defenses in those regions.
now lets throw in the fact that it would take around 6 hours for Finland to deploy troops in Tallinn meanwhile England, France, USA and the UK keep troops on rotation in the Baltic states with tanks etc. Russia would literally get stopped within a few kilometers of the border and risk losing Kaliningrad and Saint Petersburg if their was a counter offensive done by NATO.

We all know that this offensive is for the purpose of creating a buffer zone since Putin has talked about it for months, and I think the fact that Russia obviously understands that Ukraine will have to redeploy troops from their already stretched lines in the east is a huge bonus for them. But remember.. the main goal of Russia which has been the case for years now is to secure the Donbass, and by the looks of it Ukraine has already sent multiple detachments of their much needed elite forces to the north, withdrawing them from the Avdiivka and Chasiv Yar directions.
I want to remind people about Ocheretyne, one elite battalion being able to be redeployed to that area as it collapsed saved who knows how much from being taken, it was a potential collapse of large parts of that front.. it was literally a large gap in Ukraine's frontline which was clogged by a quick reaction from the elite battalion at the last second. Now imagine if something like this happens again in the summer and there's no quick reaction force to plug the hole, imagine if that happens to Chasiv Yar.
Russia has been massing troops near Chasiv Yar for almost 2 weeks now, so personally I think we're gonna see a push into Sumy as the Kharkiv front becomes more "established", and then as Ukraine rushes troops to Sumy and its high command being busy with that, Russia will start a big push towards Chasiv Yar.
Obviously it's all speculations from me, but Ukraine should be very careful to not overplay their hand here. Like I said, we have seen large russian troop build ups in the Sumy direction and Chasiv Yar direction for weeks, so obviously they're planning something.

The other part of Ukraine problems are number of troops, the amount Ukraine soldiers are dying it’s crazy.
Second lack of training or knowledge of using western military equipment properly.
The third horrible reason is corruption Ukraine government is the most corrupted government in the world that leads them to so many failures.
4th one is lack of strategic thinking for example how enemy could attack, from where? How they may attack etc, the great example is how Russian came back to Kharkiv? This big question I did some research on that so many some mistakes I found from Ukraine sides so over all they are in horrible shape

I heard another take on Putin's new appointees and it was that new appointees have worked well with China, are well liked by Xi and his people. This makes a lot of sense to me. The claim that Russia and China are not military allies is a lie, IMHO. In fact, a "big lie", as they say. One last thing: appointing an economist as defense minister makes sense for reasons that Preston cited but also because the current war is hybrid and it is very clear that economic war is a major part of it.

It is a nonsensical fantasy for anyone to suggest that either side is capable of linking two fronts into a strategic envelopment i.e. a Sumy and Vovchansk pincer arms enveloping Kharkov.
Whilst much has progresed since the Great Patriotic War it is worth recalling that then the strategic city changed hands four times 1941-44! The maximum force numbers then to achieve these wins was (per Wikipedia):
First Battle - DE win DE 10-30k v RU 10k
Second Battle - RU win: DE 350k v RU 765k
Third Battle - DE win: DE 210k v RU 130k
Fourth Battle - RU win:: DE 200k v RU 1,144k
So, unless one is expecting somehow for there to be a Blitzkrieg style surprise attack, as per Unternehmen Baraarossa's inital success with low numbers, it is inconceivable that RU will make any substantial envelopment progress with the force numbers it has.
Indeed this is the whole problem of this war (in order to win): neither side has generated sufficient ground force numbers to do so. Frankly I am pleased the RU haven't and grossly disappointed that UA haven't either.

Perhaps, however the opposite seems to be true as well, Ukraine believed the defenses where up to standard when in reality it was a shitshow, so it's a bit of both, Ukraine didn't set a minefield in the time since recapturing Kharkiv and didn't man the frontline trenches which the Russians occupied and used to hide from Ukrainian fire, on the other end it does appear the Russians saw an opening and rushed into it without wider military backup from the rest of the military, with limited men and material they are limited in their attacks they can preform and have to wait for artillery and plane support before they can attempt to attack.

Funny conclusion, Russia didn't claim to take over all Ukraine just demilitarize and denazify. Even with limited amount of forces russian army destroyed huge part of ukrainian army by June 2022, and in April 2022 in Istambul Ukraine agreeds to russian offerings.Ukraine get help in amount of 178 billions of dollars for 2 years + 60 billions recently. For comparison russian prewar military budget was about 32 billions of dollars. Ukrainian army had 6-10 times more soldiers in some directions in 2022 before the only mobilisation in Russia. Thats the trick. Now ukrainian army have about 2-2,5x more soldiers than russian one. Frontline especially in 2022 was very long , it needs several millions of soldiers , not 120K of russian + 35K of ldnr peoples republic militia against 400.000 ukrainians by summer 2022...etc etc...
