    Okay but James bringing up people with disabilities is my favorite thing! A lot of people make so much fun of certain gadgets that just do what you can do but slower, but they never consider non able-bodied people.
    Thank you James, so much, for putting these ideas forward!

    • @grouch314
      @grouch314 5 лет назад +52

      Exactly. Most of these gadgets aren't designed for able bodied people. The knife sharpener is a classic example. I sharpen knives the old fashioned way, with a whetstone like my father taught me and his father taught him. It's the best way to get a great edge on any knife but if you don't know what you're doing you can hurt yourself and screw up your knives. For someone with less coordination or mobility in their hands, sharpening a knife with a whetstone can be really dangerous. I'm gonna get one for my dad actually. He has parkinsons disease and trying to sharpen a knife with a whetstone could end up with him chopping a finger off

    I genuinely appreciated James making the point that some of these gadgets might not be useful for 'normals,' but for disabled people. So often, stuff that's designed with accessibility for us disabled folks in mind gets written off as "lazy" or inefficient. So while it should be a lot more common that people think about that stuff, I still appreciate it. Ta, James!

    Thank you James for understanding that some of these are designed for people with disabillitied. A lot of people degrade these products without realising the benefit they can have for those who with disabilities.

    I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm ruclips.net/user/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

    Regarding the first gadget and disabilities - it's not always about using your hands to move things, often it's the repetitive motions that cause pain. Peeling potatoes hurts me so much I can't even do it, but I could easily use that. I bet it'd be useful!

    I have rheumatoid arthritis, which tends to affect my hands when I have a flare. The problem with peeling potatoes is actually the constant grip pressure required. So the peeler gadget would be really useful for people with arthritic hands, even with the fine motor skill requirements of setting it up.
