If you want a competent 4x4 but you are on a budget then don't miss the Suzuki Grand Vitara. The styling is handsome and it's good to drive, while the interior is well put together and as attractive as the exterior. Unlike many similarly sized 4x4s, the Grand Vitara possesses some genuine off-road ability, so it can cut it in the rough stuff. The downsides are that it lacks refinement and the petrol engines are very thirsty.
I bought a mint conditioned Suzuki Grand Vitara, one month ago, in the exact same color and model year as this, but mine is 2.0 auto. Done alot of mods to it, mounted bonnet guard, wind deflectors, mud flaps, 3 x 60 watt xenon aux light, 2 inch lift springs/shocks, camber adjusting bolts, Asfir 4x4 alloy bash plate, bigger 245/65/17 Yokohama Geolander AT on 8 x 17 black alloys, and mounted same big wheel on the back door, as a spare wheel, full anti corrosion treatment inside all doors, door sills, bonnet, inside wheel arches, bonnet and whole underside of the car. Were happy with the car. Cheers from me in Norway
How is the going is it reliable.
I want to buy one
@@omarionbilly9677 yep very good car! Only the ABS control unit went, but was repairable, they put in a new motor in the control unit. Otherwise a highly recommenable car with REAL 4wd system and low range👍😊
@@bikerman6907 hey how is it on petrol charges? Found a nice one for £5k 96k miles
@@Usaamaaaaah Hi I have lifted the car 50 mm and also mounted bigger wheels on, those two combined are not great for fuel consumption. But have many other cars to use so fuel consumption dosent bother me too much. It likes some petrol, being a small jeep with permanent four wheel drive😃👍. Should also mention that the petrol version is the one to go for, no timing belt to worry about, , its chain driven. The 1.9 ltr Renault turbo diesel on the other hand, is not the most reliable engine out there...🤔🤔
@@bikerman6907 thanks mate
heres a review, moms got an 08 Grand Vitara she delievers newspapers with it, most of her driving is stop, go stop go, some folks she has to go out into the rural areas gravel roads/barely roads its 4wd does her great when the lake has areas closed off to the public, she has 240,000 miles , not that proclaimed crap other ppl say ~ like those traveling sales people who have a car with 200,000; hers has barely seen highway driving*** i would be confident to buy one in the US sight unseen and expect to get an okay vehicle as long as the last owner did its oil changes and didn't leave it in a ditch
I bought a rental 2012 suzuki grand vitara ($14k) I have it pretty close to a year now and i must say it felt/drives better than my 2009 mits outlander brand new.
Fuel economy
@@tipstolevelupinlife5837 comparable to competitors of the same year.
Mat is on holiday. He can't be expected to review each and every model. The new reviews, while they don't have Mat's cheeky reviewing manner, are still informative. Give her a go
I would think it's one of the most reliable 4x4s around today, they do a petrol two litre version that's got good mpg and plenty of power as it's got sixteen valves and variable cam timing with a clever self adjusting inlet manifold, there just so much better made than a range rover and do twice as many miles to the gallon.
I heard that the 2l petrol version is better then the 1.9ddis
@@kevinpicur7739 IT is
2008 2.7L V6 4x4 grand vitara in Canada. I have the car since day 1, and I love it, it handles very well, no issues, reliable in our -40C winter. And I do not feel it's under powered. Gas mileage is average, but you might see the gas meter go down fast, because this thing has a very small gas tank for a suv....
I bought a black 2.4 auto a month ago, cannot praise it enough, I love it. I've driven BMW's for years, so was nervous about going Japanese but hired an SZ5 on holiday in the Caribbean; it was brilliant. Big enough but not too big (big SUV's are for chavs!). It's solid, faster than I expected, comfortable at 90mph, superb leather seats, cruise, keyless entry. I bought the model with no spare wheel, for less than £20k, a bargain. Can't wait for winter.
How's your Suzuki?
I hat yo fuel
Pretty nice review of a solid vehicle. I have a Grand Vitara and have been nothing but pleased by it. Really good seats, quality ride, handles well for me, and has nice cargo room. Looks good as well, far as I'm concerned (not that such is even my main priority.) I like the rear fridge style door too. It's nice not getting clunked in the head by a liftgate anymore. It's a real strong vehicle with an eye toward functionality.
agree with you. i have grand vitara 2014. also suzuki fans..
yesterday, i go back from my hometown for election. a long travel in a rainy moonsun.. my grand vitara very successful handling in wet road at high speed highway have a many long bend.. satisfied. and i gradtitude to God because Him save my journey.
Matt would never had said that the way the booth door opens is a positive thing!
Is someone speaking at the end when the carbuyer logo comes up?
I can smell Matt's review school here... nicely done!
That was a pretty good review.. Shes right up there with Mat.. Good Job!
Now we have a team, carbuyer is the new oldtopgear! I'm happy about that.
2020 still love my 2012 GV. Best bang for your buck!
In her first review on the Renault Twingo, I wrote that she needed to do the rear passenger test, glovebox, side door bin and so on like Matt does. I think she is doing a big improvement on that! Very good review compared to your first Rebacca! But now you need to tell us which other cars we can buy instead -> Like Matt does. Like VW polo instead of Ford fiesta and so on. And make a bit more fun and jokes -> Like Matt does
Tell us what you really think! 😂
Forget about Suzuki Grand Vitara, she has awesome British accent, she look and sound very graceful.
It's an absolute brilliant vehicle ... I've got one does me spot on
does the power bother you at all?
does the power bother you at all?
I have since sold it due to the clutch and gears going as well as lacking power
@@zeebooooad I'm thinking of buying one 200 ks on it what power issues

Well done Ms Jackson! This is exactly the kind of reviewing that we love Matt for. Any idea as to when he will be back?
Carwow baby
Pizzastan I know. I wrote that comment eight years ago when Matt suddenly disappeared from CarBuyer. He was on holiday then and continued with Car Buyer for some time before moving on to carwow
US market (not American, 'cause America is a huge continent), usually goes by petrol instead of Diesel, because petrol engines are cheaper to buy and cheaper to maintain. Diesel parts and services are way more expensive than servicing a petrol engine. Also, the Diesel quality here in America (as continent) is lower than in Europe, and many Diesel engines in this type of cars ends up requiring services more often. The Diesel is used on heavy equipment or transport, and some SUVs and trucks.
My dad owns one of these, so I can vouch for the back head room, it has plenty.
That having been said, the suspension is just plain harsh in how stiff it is. If you have back problems then ultimately this is not the car for you.
Matt is going to Tokyo now so chillax. He will be back!
lol
thank you very much carbuyer! i will resubscribe when Matt comes back
Why did mat leave car wow
@@MataraMokaya when?
But where has the spare wheel been relocated to? Probably underneath and if so, not good!
You're getting a lot better. Good job
"don't back off, we need a close up"
Fantastic review, Rebecca! Hope you are enjoying your new gig! (:
honestly, if you have the option then stick to the 2.7 or 3.2 v6. the 2.4 between 05-12 are prone for cracked heads/blocks and the diesel is the same. after 12(or maybe 14) they fixed the issue with the 2.4's.
the 3.2 engine is also paired with the 5spd auto and only available in the top end prestige option so you get all the extras.
mine is the 3.2 prestige and at just over 320,000kms and still running flawlessly. tows like a train too.
08 -10 have that problem with head…
Leave her alone, she is doing a great job. Isn't is good as Mat but is getting better.
At first, I quite not appreciate this girl because the way she speaks is like reading a script. But couples video later, she's getting better. Keep improving girl !!! I hope one day everyone would love you like they love Matt
Do the back seats fold down flat? And does the front passenger seat fold forwards?
No, it doesn’t. It folds up and you will have to hook it to the front seat headrest.
You told that she was helping Mat but i have still not seen Mat in any of the recent reviews?? Anyways... she is improving and i must say that she does it quite well!
This is a car I like, and now I like it even more!
I don't see the 1.6 on the Suzuki website...just the 1.9 and the 2.4...
wher's Matt??? i subscribed to carbuyr because of him
It's a compact SUV. Many/most from that sub class aren't geared toward seating a half dozen people plus. If someone wants that, they need to step up in size. For couples, even those with one or two children who still want to haul groceries, active things, and such, something of this size is usually fine.
Can anyone tell me if the back seats go down to let more in the boot?
When will the guy from the other videos come back?
her standard equipment makes it an attractive offer :)
Matt IS returning in four weeks!!!
Rebecca was terrible before but is improving.
Keep it up!
Rude
@1:23 thank goodness for ergonomic boot handles! Number of times I've failed to open the boot through poor boot handle design...
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What year is this model they not gave that information
Thisis just my personal opinion, it seems like the head room for the rear seats is quite limited since her head almost can touch the roof. A guys over 6feet might find it sufficient. BTW shes a good reviewer. And Matt toooo!!!
She's getting better with the practicality test :)
There is the 2l available in my country. Hope the fuel consumption is better
is it just my computer or did the video end just when she was talking about boot space?!
maybe matt concentrating on the Auto Express now, still see him in there on video 3 days ago, it seems he will comeback in this Chanel anytime soon.
Now,it is even better
The Vitara is good, but it was really good few years ago. The problem with the Vitara is that it is getting old, the engines are old and the interior design is getting old as well. That car requires a good redesign, making sure to keep its Compact True Off Roader soul and improve the mechanic and technology. BTW, those blackish/gray careyish trim insertions in the dashboard look cheap and doesnt match the car style.
Guys, i think its possible that Matt is on a vacation so we have to wait for another week or so...
you're not wrong. the best I ever got my 1.9 DDIS was 6.8L per 100km which works out to be something like 34MPG. That was a 2.5hr drive on the highway after a full service and topped up up tires. I still think it's fairly good though.
In India it was available with 2 litre petrol engine.
Rider Geek 2.4
Here in New Zealand mine is a 2.7 litre V6 petrol. Plenty of power.
You have forgothen the 2.0l petrol engine.Thats the best choice.
Usually I'm somewhat against women doing car reviews (the roadfly girls aside), especially when they replace a guy, but she's chuffin brilliant and I really like her. Miss Matt, but she's still good
Rebecca, try to fit bottles in the doorbins, mobile phones everywhere and store your jacket and boots all around to show the storage size of things, and you'll do a great job :)
My parents have a lower spec 2WD model(I wasn't involved in the decision to buy a 2WD body on frame SUV for commuting around central florida). I do echo most of your sentiments. The 2.4 gets around mid-20s with me driving like an octogenarian, the way it sounded at low speeds was my problem with it. It's like...a V6 breathing through a kazoo. Oh and the speed sensitive audio system is pretty slow to react.
where is Matt?
Rebecca is gaining confidence keep it up!
What about 2.0 petrol GV?
I wonder why in Asia, reserved tyre for Grand Vitara is placed at the back of door?
It looks so weird without the spare tire on the back...
RWD petrol 2 litre 2010 with tyre mounted on back boot is mine...its ok..bit juicy but if u light on foot ..its not that bad
What is the fuel consumption 2.4 auto
does it really have to be pink?
How reliable is this car in 2019?
M S 2.4L petrol is super reliable. My mechanic told me that the diesel engine (french made btw) has major reliability issues.
@@sadigov Well you might wanna switch your mechanic because he doesn't know what he's talking about. 1.9 diesel that goes into Grand Vitara is a super reliable Fiat multijet diesel.
Daumex I want buy it the 1.9ddis it is reliable???cause fiat have some problems
@@hliassouliotis8420 Fiat's 1.9 diesel is super reliable, it's used also in Alfas, Opels, Saabs, so if all those manufacturers chose to use it speaks for itself. Just go to a Suzuki service center, or Fiat and ask how good the engine is.
Daumex My mech worked at a Suzuki dealership as a mechanic for 25 years before opening his own shop. He told me the 2.4L petrol engine was much more reliable and that the diesel had a lot of problems. Go figure.
Her best review yet. Objectively. Car is very meh. I just can't see anyone buying this over it's competition. You can tell she is getting more comfortable in front of the camera. Quite the looker as well. Matt who? Lol
As i told she is getting better.
She's great! A very good alternation for Matt.
Good question, i've been asking myself that question ever since I found out that there is a country called "America". Some people said to me that because they have cheap petrol and it's more widely available so they don't need diesel but, i am not sure.
...Why is the lavalier mic pointed down?
Rebecca is certainly getting better. But I disagreed when she said, "Inside, it feels well made and solid." knock knock - sound of cheapness.
Review on the Suzuki Swift Sport?
Matt is probably on holidays guys...COME BACK MATT! lol
Yeah great vehical suv etc, however they dont mention your countries tax, vat, vrt, insurane premiums..motor tax on co2 emissions..vrt vehical registration tax ..if imlorted into country or included in first purchase price...anything above 1.6 will incure high insurance depending on age licence held by owner.. maintence and running cost...
The 2400 cc is a great engine.
getting better Rebecca :)
I would still like to look at and listen to Mat... Nothing personal against her! She seems great and knows her stuff! Perhaps I just am a bit... partial to men?
She did a great job , Couldnt ask for more . Could you please elaborate on the part of diesel consumption
Anyone know if this thing has cruise control at the 1.9 diesel model?
As a side note, I'm roughly similar height to Matt, ironically.
@Avydk Cause this is not the positive thing. You always need to think that you have enough place to open this kind of back door.
I have a grand vitara 1600 sport year 2000 model three door goes anywhere never had any trouble with I swear by it nice on the motorway just done 10000 miles how about that better than the new models
1. She said to much obvious things. Headrests that move and a big boot door...we are not that stupid.
2. I can't consider a Grand Vitara as a budget car. It's arround 24.000 euro, that's a lot of money. Dacia Duster is a budget car, this is just a normal, big and expensive SUV.
She's pretty cool, I like her. No unsubscribe here!
@Avydk She cant be Matt. She is herself.
wow the UK doesn't even have the V6 version of this? what a shame
I test drove one of these about a fortnight ago - not quite sure why but it just never clicked with me.
we want Matt back, where the hell is he gone?
What about the 2.7L V6? Or the 3.2L V6? That's we get here in the USA.
Okie Rider erm we pay $6 per US gallon here.... we don't buy 3.7l V6 cars for family SUV'S.
Jason Muir $6/gallon? Wow, that's a lot to pay for fuel.
"And the headrests their adjustable" SAY WHAT.
The diesel burns too much as well and blows up in the end. I burn up 8-10 l/100 km in my 2400. And its powerfull.
Pretty good review
I love when people take a car threw a corner at 9 mph and say its a good handleing car.
wow the australian version looks much much better.
The rear wheel drive Grand Vitara is fine too. And a good buy. It mostly depends on what you are using it for & where you live.
Four wheel drive comes in handy for off roading or if you live on the side of a mountain. I admit I like it's road feel anyhow. But for a daily driver and/or trips on pavement or even minor backwoods action, the RWD Grand Vitara is more than up to the task.
I love her accent
Rebecca isn't the best choice for showing how much space is at the back seat. She's just too tiny. The person doing this test should be about 6 feet tall. Even Mat was a bit too small for that job :D
Good thing is that she is more confident. All we need is a cathcy phrase like Mat's "two liter bottle". :D
where´s the guy?
@Thisath100 The gear box would be perfectly fine if she had just brought the triptronic! come on, it drives on manual and auto; you can use what ever you want
please do the VW up, Skoda citigo or Seat mii
