    I was about four in 1956 when I first heard this. I thought he sang, "Cindy WON'T let me down." I took it further, thinking he meant "won't let me down the stairs." Dad always cracked up when I sang it that way, so I thought I was doing it right.
    We were living in the Oregon desert at the time, so this brings back memories of still, quiet nights on the desert. Well, that and the stairs to our basement.

    I always thought this was a later number. Very melodic but a bit sad. Must have been a god hit.🎉

      Mum got her radiogram for Xmas in 1956 this was one of the records that was bought with it
