Yep some people do not realize how *MASSIVE* Cataclysm was, they revamped nearly every single quests and zones in the old world plus the new Cataclysm zones by that alone Cataclysm had the most new content of any expansion, as someone who loved to level alts all the time back then, it was a blast.
I did not mind the old world being changed since by the time Cataclysm came out I did all the old quests hundreds of times over so seeing the revamp was like a breath of fresh air and the reason why Cataclysm was very good overall in my opinion.
Revamped quests, yeah. No end game besides 1-2 dungeons or raids. Literally nothing to do.
The fact that everything was revamped, makes it NOT Classic!

As someone that played original tbc and onward, Cata is some of the most fun I’ve had in the game. The heroics, the raids, the state of the community back then. It was all good

I agree with u., and i played sense 2005, 80% of my irl friends however stopt playing in the end of cata, but i guess that mostly was because of irl reasons like jobs and girl friends

I started wow back in 2005. Had a blast in vanilla wow back then, tbc was hella fun but only started playing when BT came out cause I was in uni. Loved wrath too but Cata will always be peak wow for me. RBGs were so much fun, 3s were so balanced and amazing to play and even PvE was fun. But don’t expect it to be like it was. The wow community now is toxic. I’m sure they will ruin Cata too

Cata gets a lot of hate that really is beyond its actual content. Dragon Soul is fairly bad, yes.. but all the other raids are really good. PVP is great. 5 mans are what they are. It is just more the same really. What blew Cata was the release schedule. Cut content. That sort of stuff.
If you enjoy WotLK, Cata is much better, with the exception of having 1 fewer raid tiers and LFR is not a proper equivalent of 10 Man Normal Raid difficulty in WotLK. Everything else is much better.

I only played a little of BC when I was a kid and then didn't pick it back up until Cataclysm, which I played a ton. Theres obviously things people didn't like with this expansion, but its still a great expansion overall!
I had so much fun in Cata and i remember the pre patch event to take back trolls island/gnomer was really fun.
I started during Wrath, i didnt play as much my brother did, but....when Cataclysm came, thst was when i REALLY started playing!!! Cataclysm is my classic!
I also told myself back in classic vanilla, i would only play up to wotlk... BUT ... cata is just like wotlk, but harder dungeons and more refined classes.. So I´m all for Cata once again

Ohhhh yeaaaah, I remember now - in Cata they buffed the droprate for small pouches from the mobs that you kill at lvl 1 in all starting zones. Until you loot 4 of them, I believe, they have hightened droprates. It was done to fix that thing when people farm lvl 1 mobs non-stop only to loot goddamn pouch from the start (see Captain Grim's "Classic Hardcore in a Nutshell").
People often forget that while Cata was beginning of the end, it was also arguably wow at its peak.

@@Super_Burrito actually many people said it back in the day. But at the end of the day everybody has different opinions and taste. Some prefer vanilla wow, others tbc, wotlk, MOP, legion, etc... to me Cata was peak WoW no other expansion came even close to Cata.

There is no walkable way into Twilight Highlands from other zones. You enter it on lvl 84 via introductory questchain. Or if you are 85 and you fly into it (though you still need questchain to see the main faction's base and its NPCs there)

Questline it is, then. For other 80+ zones, as well.
Guild perks give noticeable bonuses - but they are relatively hard to obtain. Many of them require guild achievements done (i.e. +10% Justice Points require glory of cataclysm dungeons done in a 5-guildmates party, I believe). And guild achievements always require a guild-wide group to be done, and sometimes have high numbers on them (i.e. "finish five thousand Cataclysm heroic dungeons in a guild group" or smth like that, i.e. the required number of repetitions of activities is exponentially higher than in regular character achievements) so for most guilds that are not organized for actual endgame activities, they will not be obtainable for a long time.
Only several of them will be commonplace - hearthstone, exp bonus, extra money that goes to GB (it's not taking 5%, it is generating extra 5% that goes directly to guild bank - and most of the time this surplus goes back into the repairs of guildies, depending on the guild role settings of course)
Gosh darn it, I forgot about the guild reputation!
There is a guild level - which is a total amount of exp gained by every member of the guild ever. It can be 1 to 25. It gives perks to the guild.
BUT to use some of those - characters need to farm guild reputation. Which is the specifically this character's experience points that were contributed to the guild. Leaving the guild wipes this character's reputation with the guild - so re-joing same guild will still zero your rep. But the experience that you previously contributed while in guild - it goes to guild level, and it just accumulates it for the guild itself until the cap of 25.
So, SOME of the guild achievements - are only available to characters that have certain base-level reputation (Friendly+). So any random that just joined guild will not be able to contribute to the guild dungeon runs, only people who gained at least Friendly reps in this particular guild.
Mass Summon perk definitely works only for guild raids and parties - where 4 out of 5, or ~20 out of 25 are guild members.
And it of course will summon only the guildmembers, not just everyone.
Its been awhile since Cata launch. I think alot of people forget how epic Cata was. T11 was so epic with memorable bosses like Nefarian, Sinestra, and even Al'Akir was a fun boss. The dungeons werent a snooze fest with some having mount drops. Firelands was epic. PvP was Epic. The game felt so good!
If you level in Silverpine forest (10-20 for Horde) - quests will lead you into Guilneas, just for a little bit. Maybe a dozen or so quests will be inside the Guilneas walls, but that's it.
The quests are generic for any race - but you kinda need to start from the very beginning of the zone, and its first quests. Then it will eventually lead you into these areas via questchains. Start is at the top of Silverpine, just around the corner of the Undercity's upper ruins. There will be Sylvanas herself on a horse, on a posh cliff - you won't miss :DD
Worgen introduction sees different Guilneas, that is not yet ruined - with Wall intact, and no extra water. And when they finish introduction, you cannot access this "old" version of Guilneas anymore.
That is exactly what I meant when I said that new questing in reworked zones is fantastic, and unironically very engaging stuff that is worth doing for the sake of it.
Cata was great fun, and I had an amazing time raiding. I perma-quit the game when I realised that Blizzard wasn't kidding about introducing cartoon ninja pandas.
I quit like a day into Cata...I was super worn out from heroic ICC runs plus IRL shit, than like a year or so later I met a dude I worked with and found out he played WoW and I went to his place after work once and he showed me how sick Org looked so I started playing again right around the launch of Firelands.
i told myself in wrath i wouldnt play cata classic...but...here comes the hype

I just now realized that you were flying and exploring the same locations you can just view now in Retail WoW :D Maybe BFA messed up some zones like Undercity or Teldrassil, but other zones are prettty much the same as they were since Cata rework. Lmao.

Quitting after only a month (in original Cata) is unfair, honestly. I am not the biggest Cata fan, I also didn't play till the end of expansion - but at least it is worth spending a bit more time. Both endgame content at first two tiers, and the reworked original locations are very enjoyable experience.
I unironically made several characters just to finish all the quests in all reworked locations, without intention to like play those characters any further. The new questing experience is that good.
Ashara, Stonetalon, Plaguelands, Blasted Lands - are the most memorable. Even by today's standards they are great - I would prefer to quest with those, than half of the more recent expansion's locations, like Townlong Steppes, Highmountain, Valshara etc.
someone in chat said that cata killed world pvp. i completely agree with you on flying mounts killing world pvp, if anything, cata resuscitated world pvp with the release of tol barad.
They should make it similar to the ashenvale mount that taking any damage dismounts you, although i'd like it if it was only damage from a player, not fall damage and mobs.
Lol I play wow since 2005 and world PvP started dying in tbc already. It wasn’t only because of flying mounts. In vanilla you spend most of your time outside farming without much else to do. In tbc with arenas and more PvE content people would mostly stay in capitals waiting for queues. Most competitive players don’t even care about world PvP. You get basically nothing from it and most people just afk lvl. In OG wrath the only world PvP going around would be in WG and it wasn’t even that enjoyable. TB was way better than WG and there was tons of world PvP.
I dont really like world pvp either. its just the sense of adventure, not knowing what could happen around the next corner, which creates a lot of immersion for me. i would never hop out and go to stranglethorn vale just to world pvp, but the zone for sure was adventurous and crazy fun with all the pvp in between ur questing. world pvp shouldnt be a main focus for an mmo, but it should be an added element to fill up the voids of just questing all the time, which is how it was in vanilla.
No, one sided servers killed world PvP, not the expansion itself. Just look at the wotlk servers and how one sided faerlina/white mane is. World PvP is relevant in SoD and how it should be.
I think the Cata world would actually be fun if they made some of the new quests actually harder to solo.
They did a good job adding plots to the old zones (apart from some being too pop culture based like redridge) but then they just made the combat brain dead and chance of death near zero.
Unpopular opinion but Warlords is my favorite expansion and would be awesome to return to today.
Did you Notice any system performance differences? Looking to buy a new laptop. Current system requirements are good with a regular laptop. But if the requirements have increased I might need to look for a gaming laptop. Since I dont play games outside of wow classic I dont want to invest more if an intel iris xe is fine for medium settings
Cataclysm revamped WoW from a old school MMO to a modern MMO (of the time), the questing was epic across the board.

I wish they would change the zones and quests in current expansions like they did here in Cataclysm.. leveling now is so boring since I know every meter of every zone and every damn quest. It was so refreshing playing cataclysm as I could explore everything again and learn all the new changes and try out all the quests they touched up. Really had an amazing time playing Cata and I hoped they would do the same with Dragonflight to kinda revive the world since leveling is absolutely dead now in retail.

Most people that talk crap about Cata didn’t even play it. Cata was so much fun back then and everyone was loving it. It’s just blizzard screwed it up by having 6 months of no content besides a boring raid.
Cata has a bad rep for not being as good as wrath, but most people that suffered through shadowlands, bfa and wod know its really not as bad as people make it out to be

No, its just that the quests are INTERACTIVE now :D They can have some cutscenes, voice lines, cinematics! Characters move around via scripting!

CashFlow is good tho think about it you can make your own guild and put all your toons in it except your main and then everything you loot they add 10% to a guild bank so ur making 10% more gold

I am one of the ones that started in cata. I had just met my then boyfriend (now my husband) and he brought me an account for valentines day (so i would stop making worgens on his horde only account lmao) I never did raiding or dailies. I legit just pvp'd. So im looking forward to experiencing things that I didnt understand then.
Classis since BC has been about endgame, with the world being the largest change I don't think people will mind it as much. Harder dungeons and raids but the players are way better.

Garrosh btw is the worst thing that happened for Horde.
He gained his high regard from Thrall trough plain old nepotism (he is son of Grom). He did literally nothing himself before being appointed commander of KorKron.
He disrespected everyone he interacted with - from other faction leaders, to old respectable orcs like Saurfang. In Borean Tundra he constantly argues with our boy chadfang. Garrosh is arrogance incarnate.
He always talks about what Horde should or should not be - while he himself never saw how the Horde CAME to be. He never was in the Horde during First or Second war. He never participated in battles, he never witnessed the harm of demon blood, and the consequences of defeat in internment camps. He also never participated in Third war that defended Azeroth from Legion.
He was left on Draenor with weak and ill orcs, because he was not even properly fit to be a warrior when the portal opened. Only eventually he somehow survived and Thrall found him in Nagrand, and took him in an act of good will and to honor Grommmash.
He came out of nowhere, from the point of view of any Horde member. But like a spoiled golden child, started preaching and teaching everyone around how to be "proper Horde".
He pisses me off so f ing much, as does every single idiot who reiterated that he did nothing wrong. He literally threw a piece of Old God into the Valley of Eternal Blossom, and almost poisoned one of main titan facilities on Azeroth! He is no better than Azshara in his aid to the cause of Old Gods, god damn it.
So my respects to VolJin who saw this piece of crap as it is, and called him out as soon as in the beginning of Cataclysm.
Sylvanas did much more to the Horde in her being a Warchief than this brownie.

Cata is good. Hc Raids are pretty hard. Nearly every class are good in Pve dps wise. (Healer feels hard but good 2 play) Firelands one of the best raids ever ane Spine of DW one of the hardest Bosses in the game.
hey does cata play the same as classic and wrath? as in slow leveling and mobs actually doing damage to you?
Mobs die faster, but you can’t pull 5 at a time and be okay everywhere, so it still poses some challenge - with blues from dungeons and heirlooms it becomes a breeze, but same could be said for classic of course!

Pve gear was definitely involved. First time it actually isn't is in mop when they have both resil and pvp power

@ryder8646 NO. OP is not wrong. Cata pvp uses no pve gear EXCEPT for leggo staff and in the very last season there's leggo dagger, but to be honest the lego daggers aren't even bis for pvp rogue. There's 1h axes from DS that proc aoe dmg, along with trinkets that proc aoe dmg. That last season has like THREE optional pve items you can just grab in Raid Finder ezmode. Compare that to wotlk where half the classes run FULL PVE gear aside from 4set pvp. Cata does not use any pve gear outside of that. That tenticle sword isn't even good. Resil is king in cata its reworked and doesn't have a cap we can reach. You guys ragging on OP when in reality it's YOU that doesn't know what you're talking about. How ironic 🤡.
I can forgive Night Elf Mage only because in return we get Tauren Paladin, which is sick

It breed "Mass invite" guilds who had no intentions of actually using the members for anything except be farming slaves. Anything looted is 10% more that goes directly into the guild bank, so the more members you had the more free money you could accumulate

Cataclysm has actually 0 fucking content. 3 dungeons and 2 raids at most. It feels like after you hit 85 you can just pvp 3 times and be done with the game.
I never played cata so I'm going to play it just to experience it, probably will do the same with mop and wod but honestly I feel like I'm just going to lose interest after the initial launch each time unless they do #changes

Thermoplugg was peanut butter and jelly of Mekkatorque for being in a position of power so he said he was researching how to turn Troggs into Gnomes but instead he made the gas that turns Gnomes into Leper Gnomes and released it all over Gnomeregon it hopes that it would make him an army of Leper Gnome slaves. Fortunately he miscalculated the formula for the antidote and ended up going crazy him self before being killed by adventures at the bottom of the city.
Not playing this. Do they also put the spells on your bar? Overworld content will be braindead steamroller content just to get to 85. Thank God the nostalgia glasses are gone with Cata. Didnt even make it through Wrath (dipped in phase 3) as it was a mindless, dead world with insanely inflated economy.
I may play cata if they have fresh servers. I would not play with the try hards that still have their characters from like 5 years ago at this point

it's supposed to resemble a bolt of sunlight, I Prefer the new visual. however, I think a minor glyph could be used to revert a bunch of spells to their "Classic" Visuals and Sound Effects, otherwise visiting the class trainer and asking them to put a vanity passive ability on you
