i mean to be fair, during the fight while he was trying to get to ace, i dont think any of his crew had a way to get to him, and even if they did. they would not have gotten there in time.
plus luffys a stubborn mofo, while none of his crew is by any means weak, if he can keep the rest of them safe by fighting someone whos as strong as kaido (the big ol dragon mofo) on his own(i know he isnt actually fighting alone in the manga) he would do it
remember what zoro looked like after he took in luffys pain from just that one fight?
