Loving, loyal, and intelligent, they are wonderful companions from the youngest to oldest, they love people. Our beloved Bedlington lived to be just about 17 years old, and she was family. We never saw any aggression or jealousy when our sons and daughter were born. She loved them! She was also agile, and she was fast. Grooming is a big factor. We brushed our girl each day during her 1st year, as her coat changed. Make sure you watch for skin allergies and sensitive skin. And, yes look for a reputable breeder who only breeds 1:1 or 1:2 pups to help prevent copper tox. Our girl will always be in our hearts; she was an earth Angel to our family.
We lost our Bedlington terrier 5 weeks ago aged 18.3 years old a female....we are utterly broken. She was the fastest runner i have ever seen she was great with children and loved our cat too....a gentle dog but with the heart of a lion! We will have another but when the time is right....The best dog ever!!!
Maybe some people dont like their bedlington terrier when all he does is sit in the empty fireplace and bite the shit out of u when u step within a 1 meter radius of its territory.
This was the first dog I knew as a child, Reuben, then a few years after he passed on, my family got 2 more, Ruby and Gibson. They were named by the breeder and we always kept the name, especially in this case as Ruby and Gibson, or Rub + on = Rubon or Reuben! :D While Ruby unfortunately wasn't able to stay with us as long as Gibson, the latest edition to the family, Izabelle (or Izzy), came to help keep Gibson company to this day! I would have a Bedlington of my own in a heartbeat but my wife is more fond of larger dogs, but she still loves my parents pups (especially couch cuddles and naps!) Great breed for families as the bedlington are just so gentle with children and elderly grandparents (my grandmother HATED dogs, but still warmed up to Reuben and even would share food from her plate on Sunday night dinners!). Great video!
I owned a Beddlington called Fergus and he was such a character a smashing dog . They are a great breed and in the right hands very talented. 😃 🏴 🇬🇧
I have my second Beddie and absolutely adore her. They have both been adopted, firs we had a male who lived to 13 years old, now we have a girl who is 3 and she’s the best girl in the world. All you say is so true, but mine have always been very timid, they’re scaredy cats
My Bedlington is 13 now, so well-behaved, intelligent & funny, and will tolerate other dogs but will pin another to the ground if they tried to dominate her even staffies, the wolf within the lamb is a phrase for the Bedlington
0:34 The Bedlington Terrier has the head of a lamb, the heart of a lion and the fielding skills of Dick Stuart (AKA Dr. Strangeglove, Stonefingers, The Man With the Iron Glove).
Mine is an absolute angel -- except in two scenarios. The first is when he scents the hedgehog that sometimes lives under the garden decking and goes into tracking mode only to end up in a stand-off with a hissing hedgehog. The second is when Hugo, the collie dog who lives in the garden backing on to our garden shed, is out and about. 5 other dogs live in neighboring gardens -- adjacent to us, across the road, or backing on to our (large) garden. Only Hugo causes complete Bedlington mayhem that results in "Hound of the Baskervilles" baying.
Brilliant thanks. I have a 4yr old named Bertie.hes like a cartoon dog, so so funny. He loves his 2 big sisters, they're cats BTW, but my other dog has no time for him 😥 He loves every dog he meets and is the fastest runner, but at home he steals all the cushions to lie under, never makes a sound at home, so need to watch where you sit 🤣 xx
I ❤ how this little lamb LOOKS. They’re a little hyper for my pace but I’d love to see the breed developed more in the U.S. I have a Chinese Crested Dog and I love “ different “
We find our Bedlington terrier does have an odor. Even after we bathe him the odor begins to be noticeable within a few days. Are there remedies for this?
Training done early makes for a brilliant dog for life. High maintenance for good health, but worth it. Exercise essential.Great at home so long as Exercise is done daily, twice a day if walks are short.
I know a Troat card reader/ businessman, he do something else Travell Sorensen has bedlington Terrier ❤ s go after critters bigger than him. Besides the usually squirrels. He would jet out of the home if watch over a squirrel.
I was bitten by a Bedlington Terrier, it was over 20 years ago and It happened when i was walking to work. The Bedlington Terrier came running up a driveway towards me and it looked friendly and was wagging it's tail so i put my hand out to stroke it and the next thing i knew my entire hand was in it's mouth. Fortunately i managed to quickly remove my hand from it's mouth but one of it's teeth caught one of my fingers and made it bleed. I attempted to go down the drive to inform the owners what it had done as i was worried it might do the same to a small child but the dog kept moving back and forth across the driveway so I couldn't get down. This incident left me with a life-long fear of dogs.
rachael knowles hi! Am thinking to get a Bedlington too. I have two cats and I am pretty worry about that... plus it would for me very important that this dog will be ok with other dogs... can you tell me e bit more about your experience?
@@madquinterio my Bedlington was brought up with my cat when they were both young so that's all I can comment on. but they are very playful with each other and wanna fight like brothers and sisters do 🤪 xx
The origin of the breed is quite clear, they are from Bedlington in the North East of England. The guy presenting this has such a creepy accent I gave up after his first non fact.
I rescued one in 2009. He is still with me at 17 y/o. Your description is spot on. Very wonderful breed and so surprisingly talented creature.
Wow, that is a great age! Is he still active? You are great for rescuing :)
