I was born and raised in Cairo, in a small suburb that was connected to the city by mainly the Metro, Line 1 to be exact (the blue one in the last footage of the video) I've been using the Metro for 22 years, to go visit my family, to go shopping, to go out with friends, to go to college, and to commute to work. Until I got married and lived in a city that is not connected by the Metro and had to get a car to move around. So, this video brought back so many memories, I can smell the engines, rusty metal and hot oil only by watching the video. I've always admired the Metro, and was playing pretend to be a metro operator, I've drawn the metro many times when I was young, I was always fascinated by it, I hope there was an add-on to game like Train Sim World that features Cairo Metro, anyway Thanks for taping this.
Thank you Tim for a very interesting video. Two things surprised me. Firstly the train were not that crowded. Secondly the lines use left-hand running!
Really cool video Tim. I was there in 2017 and the metro was a lot more crowded, but being a native New Yorker when it was I just waited for the next train. I also noticed that some women would ride in the regular cars as opposed to the women's only cars. Do you know if the line out to the airport is up and running yet?
The airport phase is canceled and replaced with a BRT shuttlebus from all the airport terminals to the adly mansour central station From adly mansor central station you can ride the metro green line 3 or the capital LRT OR the Ring road BRT ( BRT will operate later this year or early 2023) .
Yeah, the women can ride any of the cars as they please. They are not restricted to the ladies-only cars. The men are the ones restricted. Which is the best thing about the Cairo metro in my opinion.
Great video. Sorry I missed the live premiere. A question: I noticed that there was a car for ladies only. But another car had a couple of ladies. Were these escorted by men or were they allowed in on their own? Are metro buses also segregated by gender?
And you didn't get yelled at by security? I would have had a compilation of videos for my channel if it werent for one of the officers on Line 1 that yelled at me for taking videos/pictures...

Dude I just love the sound of the train itself. It's so amazing
Some of subways use Toshiba traction motor characterstic for Japanese trains
Hello Cairo from Vancouver. Your metro is very impressive. Bravo!
Fantastic video my friend like 45 !!
I like the sound of the trains on line 2
Very nice filming ! Thank you
Shout out to Egypt Subway system ♐️👍
The old trains sound exactly like the Hankyu 8000 series!
Bellissimo video
Saluti da Italia
Thank you Tim I love you!
Cool train

Eventually a Part II will come out with an additional line that was not shown in this video - stay tuned! :D
Welcome to the Arab World's metros!
it was not crowded probably because it wasnot rush hour. in rush hour its very crowded
Interesting video. Nice metro/ subway system. Wasn' t aware that women have their own car
Thanks Tim😀😀💚💚
A number of systems around the world (including those in Japan) have women only cars! (also children are allowed in those cars)
@@timosha21 Thanks for the clarification
Happy 2023
I wish you did a video about Cairo Metro line 3 and the new LRT line connecting Cairo with all cities in the east. Nice video 👍🏽👍🏽
Stay tuned!!

Women have access to all the cars . Ladies-only cars are plus Like another option for them.
Its alot better now
wondering what the green or red flaggings over doors to single cars must mean.....
The third line is the most modern, its not shown in this video sadly
Stay tuned!
we love Egypt...hello from Athens
We in Egypt love the Greeks and Greece too
I noticed the 3rd rail is upside down and covered by a board, just like the Market Street subway in Philadelphia.
Great video. Sorry I missed the live premiere.

I saw ladies wondering around on their own in Cairo, the more South I went in Egypt the more conservative it go.
There are 4 women only cars, and all the other cars are mixed. Its only illegal for a man to go to women's cars, there are no men only cars
@@rowantharwat9195
Thanks for clearing that up
Women are allowed to mix but men are not allowed
الفلل😮
How often does it happen that security guards, staff or train drivers stop you from filming?
Taking photos or videos with your mobile are legal from this month.
مترو الجيزة خنيق مفيش تكيف و دايما مصر كلها بتركبه
دائما ما يكون زحمة جدا
And you didn't get yelled at by security? I would have had a compilation of videos for my channel if it werent for one of the officers on Line 1 that yelled at me for taking videos/pictures...
Apparently the air conditioning does not work. That is why the upper windows are open.
the old trains are not AC's but the new ones are
I can see some French influence
Your right: the metro was planned and built with the help of French experts
@@danmetro98rb
Only the first line, but the second and third line is purely Egyptian
