Nina and Jeff Dance the Bossa Nova

- Nina and Jeff danced this Bossa Nova at the Dancers Studio in St. Paul, Minnesota in December of 2011. In order to choreograph this routine, they have conducted extensive research to identify steps that were created in the 60's and 70's for boss nova music. The bossa nova was a fad dance in the early 1960's that faded with the introduction of the twist and when the Beatles came to the US and everyone danced in solo style. A complete syllabus of steps never solidified. Through their continued research they hope to reintroduce a dance syllabus consisting of steps for bossa nova music (which has always remained popular even though dancing to it did not). You can follow their progress at www.studiojeff.com.

Desafinado makes my heart flutter, bless Stan Getz and Joan Gilberto
So beautiful. They both look like they're genuinely enjoying themselves. I've always wondered how one might dance to this wonderful genre of music. Thank you for the demo.
Yes, they like each other, and I got here by wondering the same thing. Thanks to the two dancers :-)
My Coach, Vicki Venka, taught me Bossa Nova over 30 years ago because I liked the music - it sounded kind of gloriously relaxed and lazy even, so I was just doing hip lifts which IS what the basics of it come off of! As a matter of fact, I'm teaching Bossa Nova tonight during our "60s-themed" party!
How was the party 🎉 ❓😊
Beautiful and elegant. Brings the feeling of that time period back perfectly. I just wish that you had done more of these videos and added to the step list...Your creativity is really outstanding. Bravo!
Why is it so off beat? I am a beginner.
But the 1 2 3 .. i dont see it. And in the beginning when i count 1 2 3 4 I cant see them being in rhytm... so, what is bossa nova about, how can I understand it?
@@alessiosandro123 you're not wrong, they are just off beat in some steps and on beat in others. it seems they are dancing a typical 123-567 step pattern (same as salsa) but they are just not stepping on time even though they look great.
Me too! I was thinking about it and decided to look for the moves! Something new to learn!!!
I don't know what to say except for: BEAUTIFUL and Well Done.
Beautiful Joao Gilberto's Song♥️
Throughly enjoyed that 👏🏾👏🏾
My mom and I just watched you and you two are the real deal, ACTUAL bossa nova, with Gilberto and Getz. My mom and I want to learn how to dance the bossa nova now!
did you?? ;)
Très élégant!
Antonio Carlos Jobim - Desafinado

This looks like regular ballroom dancing/waltzing, just done over bossa nova music. Hardly bossa nova dance. It's cute, but it's not bossa nova. The only thing bossa nova in this video is the music. Thanks for sharing anyway.
Piketon murder
Not boss nova. Just slow samba.
No, it’s definitely not samba. Samba is characterized by its hip motion created through the knees, ie it’s bounce. This has no bounce. Also, ballroom samba travels. This did not
And. Dance your ass off
bossa nova was not made to be danced, though; it's barely danceable
Yes, that is right. I agree. But the woman in the video wanted to perform to a bossa nova song so I did some research and created this dance using material that I found from dance teachers in the 70's and 80's. The soft version of bossa nova makes me want to dance!
Do you mind sending me a link to the 70s and 80s dance vids or telling me where to find them?
Me: I’ve created bossa nova. It’s not meant to be danced to
Everyone: cool story bro… [starts dancing]
this is horrible
Boy, I bet you're a lot of fun at a dance.
you cant show anything better, can you?
Lack of talent overcompensated with fake "elegance".
can you show us anything better?? ;)
