Dottie: had paint spilled on her
Lucy: limbs and head sown on weakly
Back-to-front: head put on the wrong way round
Princess: clothes made out of bits and pieces and hair cut
Sad sack: cost too much to manufacturer
Hi-fi: dropped during testing resulting in a stutter
Claude: is French
