Most of the time it’s improper removal or filing the natural nail bed too much is what causes damage so practice proper removal and don’t be lazy about it if you want your nails to stay healthy…I made those mistakes and had to take months off of doing my nails and it sucked! Also you don’t really need to file your natural nail ever…I mean yea you do but you don’t…I don’t and mine stay good but it also depends on the person…if you do just do it very very gently and not too much…use a 180-230 grit for natural nails NOTHING lower
