Beautiful steel bikes, you can't beat them. Thats a treasure trove of old Campy stuff. I remember Campy used to run an advert in the cycling press, 35 years ago, that read over a picture of some Record components, "When technology becomes emotion". When I bought my first expensive wheelset built on Campy Record hubs, I felt like I was living the dream. Lets celebrate the life of the man who collected those bikes, he was one of us.
Thank you. I was nervous making this video. Its hard to give someone the tribute they deserve! from 1980 on I got all the magazines and in 83 I started working at a shop. I got my first campy stuff in 87 when I could afford it. I felt like I hit the jackpot!
I remember my first set of handbuilt wheels too, campy super record low flange 36 H double butted spokes laced to fiamme yellow label rims, tubulars with clemente criterium seta silk tires, in the mid seventies, man was l happy riding those...lol. Ah those were good times.
Nicely done! A fine remembrance of Mr. Brooks. His story is similar to so many of ours. I can't help but think about a local friend who was recently hit by a car and ended up in the hospital with broken bones. It certainly reinforces the need to stay vigilant when riding and not assume that any motorist will do the right thing. Looking forward to seeing each bike in detail!
Thank you. I was nervous making this video. Its hard to give someone the tribute they deserve! Thanks for watching. You're right, it only takes one accident or one stupid driver texting and life changes or ends quickly!
Thank you. I was nervous making this video. Its hard to give someone the tribute they deserve! Bummer you couldn't go on this road trip. There wasn't room in the car anyway! LOL
It's so sad to lose a good person like that in the word like him in the world I wish that I would have had a father like him and that's why I love you so much cut the people that you meet in this world who cares so much about bikes also care so much about other people😊 his wife is very touched my heart today it made me cry 😢 and I see his kids care so much to take the bike that he had in frame it on the wall that is a testament to how good of a father he was may he rest in peace it may make it to heaven riding the most beautiful bike play Cherokee bike like you cherish your child your dad is a special gift to his wife and trusting to you thank you for showing your videos on this channel about this wonderful couple hula bike 🚲 a mini bike community miss this man
I just love this one John. Hats off to Mr. Greg Brooks, he passed on his passion, to his wife and children and now from them to you. They understood his love, and so do you. This is a beautiful thing and all of us can relate. Thank you for sharing John.
John, I had a friend who sought to have his beloved road bikes receive the care and exercise they deserved.Of the seven I was given at his passing,2 of them were passed on to others whom searched for years for 64 CM samples of the Gios and Witcomb in his collection. We have both been given a great gift by being entrusted with such personal treasures.
Thank you John a fine show👏 I was raised in Hawaii started riding in the 60s got my first Paramount for my graduation in 1971 still have it ,look forward to more shows 👏
Hello from Montreal I never do comments mostly because I'm French ! This was intense and touching thanks for sharing. I find your videos quite enteresting and I feel your passion. Lost my license after my 2nd stroke and now just rediscovering bikes at 59 😂 😂 I'm having fun with 5 cheap vintage but really need only one! hard thing to do when I see your collection 😂 😂 Rgds
That's what's concerning. Not enough younger people into this hobby/sport. I met a young man that is 22 working at my LBS. He was shocked to see me come in. I didn't know anyone that young watched my channel. But those are too few and far between.
We should all be so lucky to have a man of your character find and preserve our treasures one day. Thanks for making this great video, and for including the story of the man as much as the bikes.
Wow, parts haul of the century, your set for life! So many parts I ate my breakfast and did not make it to the end. Vintage biking isn't about the $$$ value, but those parts are in fact worth a fortune! So much nos, unbelievable!
Great collection and remeberance. I was in an accident this summer but at only 18 mph. I was not injured when I hit a car the crossed the bike lane. what helped me was to stay low and inpact with my shoulder and helmet, at a slight angle. Thus I did not fly over the car. The bike was destroyed along with my helmet. The brakes you asked about are 1999 to about 2003. I have those on my Bianchi's. I have 12 from that era. EV2, 3, 4 and xl pro. Great video.
The skeleton brakes are newer than 2004. I like the Bianchi Xl PRo (Alum. Frame) from 1998 to 2003. I have an XL pro. (5) EV2, (2) EV3 and (2) EV4. I also restored a 1996 Veloce I got for free. It is 8 speed with the original components painted silver. All have Campy Groups and most are TDF replicas. I am 74. I got a a Bianchi in the 8th grade and have always ridden the brand.
A mechanic told me one on the Ti Rayleigh team in the late 70’ to mid 80’s that on Gerrie Knetemann’ s bike he had a similar Mavic bottom bracket which lasted nearly 8 years without service! They made fantastic stuff back then… Very moving video, keep up the great work.
Someone else commented that you had to do some custom modifications to your frameset to use it. Are you familiar with that at all? Thanks for watching!
Great video and what an amazing collection of bikes and components. Good to see a Hetchins there too. I bought my first proper Moser race frame from Alf Hetchin as it was my local shop when I was a kid. He hung it in the window and I paid him weekly stopping off to admire it every time I passed. I’m looking forward to watching the videos on each bike.
Reminds me of unboxing shipments back in the summer of ‘72. I worked in a bike shop that was like a high-mountain ski chalet. Friends couldn’t believe I scored that job. Boxes of fine jewelry stamped “Campagnolo” would come in. We would fit the components to customers bikes, put it into inventory, and occasionally fork-over our cash for the trinkets we just couldn’t resist. Road silks, & Record levers took top spots on our list of unobtainium. We would polish, and adjust our fine Mercian, Cilo, Olmo, and other fine steeds finished no less than the finest pieces at the jewelry store in the mall. Thanks for taking me back to the Summer of ‘72. What an amazing life I’ve had.
Very good video about Greg and his bikes. It is surreal at times buying these. I have had the pleasure of buying bikes ridden by folks who are stepping away from the sport and want to see them go to a good home and be used. I have the honor of buying bikes that beloved to someone's love one who passed on and they are ready to let it go. Both are tough and rewarding at the same time. Keep the rubber side down.
Thanks! It was very difficult to do this video. Mostly because of the fear of messing up and not representing Greg and his family adequately. I was truly inspired by his story. There was so much on the editing floor because the video would of been an hour long if I didnt cut a lot out. Truely a great story!
Wow that is generous! I'm glad you enjoy the videos. I was nervous making this video. Its hard to give someone the tribute they deserve! Thanks for watching.
Thank you John. I'm a Brit married to a Texan. I've lived and worked in the States and in the UK. We now live in England, on the south coast. I have just had my by shipped from Texas to England. I plan to restore it back to riding condition. Your videos are inspiring and teaching me. For that, a HUGE thank you. The bike? I used to ride it as a teenager in the 1960s. I'm now 76. It's a Youngs road frame, Campag Record front and rear with handlebar control, Mafac brakes with Universal levers (where on earth can I find come genuine Universal translucent brown hoods), Campag Record large flange hubs, Unica plastic saddle, Ambrosio stem, GB handlebars. Wolber Strada 80 tubs (One is punctured - it popped at 40psi, the other has a slow puncture and a spare is pumped up to 80psi and has stayed there!. Why the exclamation mark? The bike has been unused and stored for over 50 years. Love what you're doing.
Wow. sounds like an impressive machine! Have you tried racevelo.com/ I have purchased from there and they did a great job getting me the order quickly and they are in Poland! Thanks for watching!
That's an awesome collection, All of us bike geeks will be letting our collection's go one day.. l wish l knew the man, l have a feeling we would have had a lot to talk about. God bless him and his family, they know his bike's are in good hands now. Thank you John.. Thanx for the video's too.
I used to ride with the Doering brothers in Springfield, back in the 70s! My biggest race finish was 9th place in the 1977 State Championship. You are a wonderful guardian of all that is bicycle history! Very respectful of the family which was great! That Gios is a beautiful bicycle.
Beautiful bikes and a wonderful tribute. I would be proud to have these in my stable. We love our bikes but in the end they are just stuff. The end of this video made me tear up. thanks for sharing.
Finally got to the end of the video. Nice words John, well done! Also, I've accepted the reality that I have to wear one of those lobster bibbs when viewing the parts section, so much treasure!!👍
John thanks for sharing, I stumbled on your channel and love your content. It speaks to all of us bike nerds that find balance in this crazy world wrenching and riding. The message at the end really speaks to what’s important and at the end of the days stuff is stuff. The memories and joy it brings us is the reason we do it. I can’t thank you enough for being honest and showing your emotions - you’re a great man keep up the excellent content!
Is Trinidad broke my heart to hear that I'm sad in a way I'm happy that he had a chance to ride his bike and fix them up most people do not get the chance to do the same thing they love but he had a family that truly did love him without a heart ❤️🙏 what a wonderful person
Beautiful story, thoughtful arrangement. It was meant to be that you continue to curate these bike in the spirit of Mr. Greg Brooks. It is a greatful task. - Valentin from Switzerland
Bless you John. My dad had a Hetchins back in the 60's. Harry Quinn is one of the great British frame builders of his time. A very interesting story too. Now that you have a Quinn and a Hetchins, see if you can get a Fothergill. 👍
Thank you. I was nervous making this video. Its hard to give someone the tribute they deserve! Thanks for watching. Im not familiar with the Fothergill. I'll have to look into that!
Wow. Great collection and story. The bikes couldn't have gone to a better home. I believe Sir Alex Moulton (who designed the suspension in the cars we all drove in 🇬🇧, and went on to invent some interesting small-wheeled bikes) owned a Hetchins with those strange curvy stays. His benchmark was to make sure his own bikes rode as well as it did.
A heart warming story! I myself own over 10 bikes (perhaps not by the stellar makers as the 6 but in my opinion still collectible) and often wonder who to bequeath them to one day. It’s great to know there will always be someone passionate about bikes like you who is willing to drive 8 hours to collect them.
I can really see you as a guy that would collect classic BMX I truly like to see a BMX on your channel 👍 but I am not going to tell a story I love 10 speed I had a 10-speed that I can't remember the name of from England Beverly built when I was 12 or 13 years living crap out of me because it was a 28 rim size put today's day I miss that bike because it was one of the most special treasure bike that I had set my alarm clock for me for a birthday present encouragement because it was too big for me I'll be looking for a bike just like that thank you for sharing the bike with us on your channel 👍😊😊😊
John, another great video! Very touching. You and me are the same age and the irony is that we are the youngsters in the Classic Rendezvous group so I guess the future is on us. Thank you for carrying the torch. I’m in Sacramento but I plan on making a pilgrimage to one of your open houses in the future.
Yeah. We're young'ins. Im actually talking with a couple young guys in their 20s and Im going to do videos with them sorta inspiring younger riders to check out vintage.. or at least consider building a retro-mod! If you're coming into the Chicago area feel free to stop in.
I know about Condor bikes, I used to shop there, in Central London, its moved and changed hands, larger now with an extensive online presence. I was in the new shop earlier this year. I used to get the ace wheelbuilder to make wheels for me, Monty his name was. Cheers from London!
Oh my goodness 😊what Cool story. I found this very moving, I've experienced similar journeys to this. And your right, it's just stuff. Faith and Family first 😊. Than our toy's 😂❤. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video with us.
OMG! That Gios.. I had a Gios Torino "Profesional" in the 80s. My pride and joy, paired with my Ritchey "Equipe" MTB... I lived in North Van. Vancouver Courier on the Ritchey weekdays, Italian road racer wannabee everytime else. Climbed the North Van hills comfortably for a "Clydesdale". Lean and mean at 192 lbs, 6'2". My 60 year old comfortable riding weight is now 250+ a liitle bit;) I play with a titanium hip and sick diy E bikes now. Loved this vid. What a moving story. Thanks man.
Thank you. I was nervous making this video. Its hard to give someone the tribute they deserve! I'm right behind you at 58, Trying to relieve myself of the clydesdale status. Down to 238 from 265. Ways to go! Thanks for watching.
Im not one for commenting on videos, but iI recently came across your channel and have really loved going through your videos. This video is a gem, well done you for handling this with warmth and compassion. Im over in England, not far from Liverpool, where the Harry Quinn wss made. The days when every town had at least one frame builder and where every city had several. Looking forward to more of your videos John.
Wow this is brilliant John.. great story so sorry to hear of what happened.. I own a Condor beautiful bike to ride I love it.. amazing bikes to add your already excellent collection ❤ your comments at the end end are so touching John had a tears in my eyes.. Pete 🚴🏻🚴🏻👍😃
What a touching video. I surely hope my collection gets passed on to person's with the same passion. A great haul, I can't even imagine the cost. Happy late Birthday and thanks again for the video's. 😊
Wow, what an inspiring video and tribute. I know you’ll honour the memory and keep the amazing collection alive. What an incredible collection of NOS parts, must’ve taken him decades to accumulate. Keep up the great work 👍🚴🏽♂️
Thank you. I was nervous making this video. Its hard to give someone the tribute they deserve! Thanks for watching. I didn't know the extent of the parts collection till after I picked it up. I'm going to send her more money.. she may learn of this if she reads this comment before the money gets there! LOL
I am so glad you made this tribute to this fine gentlemen who came to such an unfortunate end. I know the Brooks family will cherish this. BTW I've always loved those Hetchins bikes. I guess the lugs are chromed or stainless steel or both. So beautiful. Loved it.
Hi John , you should try and het a Harry Hall bike from Manchester, England . He supplied bikes for Robert Millar , Paul Sherwen , Graham Jones and countless other champions of the 70s and 80s .He was also the Great Britain team mechanic of the 1967 Tour de France where Tom Simpson died in his arms .He also became the world masters road race champion .
Driving down the highway with a bunch of cash and all I'm worried about is that you don't get stopped by the police. What a mixed up world we are living in at the moment. Great collection from a great guy.
Wunderbar! Stokes many good memories of partners now gone. Soon to be 69, been riding for it seems ever. My little brother, Dan, and I rode from Carbondale, through Nashville, to the Great Smokies and back in 1973. That's before I-24 was built. Nouvo Tipo L/F hubs, great and same as N/Record except the cones & qr. Thompson is made a 50 miles south of me in Macon Georgia (by the airport). The crank wrench is the "peanut butter" wrench. Can't say I recall that English saddle maker, but many "better" European Bikes had leather saddles other than Brooks or Ideale. For some reason I recall that Raleigh controlled who got some Brooks saddles. You couldn't buy a Brooks Professional with the flattened rivets. Even Paramount's didn't have that model of the Professional.
Brilliant video as always John, thanks for the great content, i look forward to your weekly videos, i'm 34 from England, probably quite young to be into vintage bikes. Last year i was at my local bike shop asking for any old bikes i could buy to do up. Weirdly he had a Puch 76 full black edition DA, i've not looked back since! Can't wait for summer here in England to get out on it again.
Beautiful bikes but such a sad story. Lovely to see the Harry Quinn bike, I regularly drive by the store here in Liverpool, which is still going strong.
A touching sentiment to the man. A deep-dive into who he was. Unboxing all those components was like Christmas morning. So… what’s for sale? I need: XL clips & straps 165mm Nuovo Record arms & spider Record gum hoods 27.2 nuovo record post 32h Record hubs
Beautiful video. Really enjoyed it and happy birthday, mine's not too far away either. Very nice Cannondale behind you too. Maybe try (try!) to give away some of your treasured bikes to friends n family?
"Where's your family, where's your faith?" That's it, John. I'm right there with you. Heartful thanks.
Thanks, seems like others like this comment too! I appreciate it!
Thank you for this tribute to my brother Greg. He was just as you described him.
Wow. great to hear from you! Thanks so much!

Wow. Solid! Wonderfully honorable and respectful ending. Every day’s a gift, my friend
That’s why today is called “the present”.

Is Trinidad broke my heart to hear that I'm sad in a way I'm happy that he had a chance to ride his bike and fix them up most people do not get the chance to do the same thing they love but he had a family that truly did love him without a heart ❤️🙏 what a wonderful person
I've been using the Campag Rally rear derailleur since 1976 and it's as tight as it was from new ❤❤
That was Campag's claim to fame. It'll perform The same way new as it will after 10,000 miles.
What a nice video It really took me down memory lane.A great tribute to an interesting man . Looking forward to your next video.
All the best!
Thanks so much! More videos coming.
Beautiful story, thoughtful arrangement. It was meant to be that you continue to curate these bike in the spirit of Mr. Greg Brooks. It is a greatful task. - Valentin from Switzerland
Thanks so much!
I'd be up as quick as you.... 6 new bikes.... lets go already...!!!!
your closing was so freaking cool
Thank you. It was heart felt. Thanks for watching
Great history. Thanks. Im really looking forward to restoring all of the bikes!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. It was hard to turn these down! I had to get them!
Thank you John for sharing, awesome bike collection.
@@dobinhan2010 thank you
I can really see you as a guy that would collect classic BMX I truly like to see a BMX on your channel 👍 but I am not going to tell a story I love 10 speed I had a 10-speed that I can't remember the name of from England Beverly built when I was 12 or 13 years living crap out of me because it was a 28 rim size put today's day I miss that bike because it was one of the most special treasure bike that I had set my alarm clock for me for a birthday present encouragement because it was too big for me I'll be looking for a bike just like that thank you for sharing the bike with us on your channel 👍😊😊😊
Cool bikes and parts John. Great story about a fellow cyclist whose passion lives on in your vintage collection. 👍🏼
Thanks! I appreciate you watching
What a jackpot!
I may have to binge watch these videos. I'm very glad to find you.
I think you should! Just kidding. Glad you found me. We're all just having fun here with some old bikes. Thanks for watching
Generational excellence. ✨💟✨
Oh my goodness 😊what Cool story. I found this very moving, I've experienced similar journeys to this. And your right, it's just stuff. Faith and Family first 😊. Than our toy's 😂❤. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video with us.
Thanks for watching.
John, haven't been a lover of many of your videos, however I do watch them for the bikes but this one hit the spot, really enjoyed it, thanks!
Thanks......I think. LOL I appreciate you watching.
OMG!
My 60 year old comfortable riding weight is now 250+ a liitle bit;)
I play with a titanium hip and sick diy E bikes now.
Pretty cool...glad I was able to check out your collection today.
Larry
Oh hey Larry! Nice meeting you
Im not one for commenting on videos, but iI recently came across your channel and have really loved going through your videos.
This video is a gem, well done you for handling this with warmth and compassion.
Im over in England, not far from Liverpool, where the Harry Quinn wss made. The days when every town had at least one frame builder and where every city had several.
Looking forward to more of your videos John.
Thanks so much Paul. Im loving the English bikes! I have 9 now. I'm going to do a video on the "English bicycle collection" soon. Thanks for watching

The shot pf the Reynolds sticker brought back some big memories for me!
For me its iconic like a classic cocacola logo
John, that's quite a haul. I believe you are the answer to the family delema of what to do with the collection left behind.
I'm blessed to be a part of it. Thanks for watching
What a touching video. I surely hope my collection gets passed on to person's with the same passion. A great haul, I can't even imagine the cost. Happy late Birthday and thanks again for the video's. 😊
THanks so much! It was the most I've invested into the collection in one shot. But it was worth the stretch. Thanks for watching.
Amazing video. The Campy new old stock! The gum Campy white hoods!
Yeah! tons of goods stuff in there!
LOL
That Red De Rosa was Beautiful ❤
It was a favorite. It was also theirs. lol Glad it's going up on the daughters wall!
Love your videos John. ✌️
So glad to hear! Thanks for watching.
great find
Thanks!
I am so glad you made this tribute to this fine gentlemen who came to such an unfortunate end. I know the Brooks family will cherish this.
BTW I've always loved those Hetchins bikes. I guess the lugs are chromed or stainless steel or both. So beautiful. Loved it.
Very nice tribute to Greg and his family. Nice collection of bikes, and super collection of parts. Definitely one of your best videos.
When I do a video on that bike I'll show the order form. I learned it was 1 of 3 bikes made that last year of production!
Thank you. I was nervous making this video. Its hard to give someone the tribute they deserve! Thanks for watching.
Spiritual video. A lot of eye candy.
Thanks
Beautiful video my friend thanks for sharing and God bless you.
Thank you. I was nervous making this video. Its hard to give someone the tribute they deserve! Thanks for watching.
Love the colour of your Audi Wagon!!! Real car lovers drive wagons. Oh the bikes are also nice😀
Thanks, its my second green Allroad. I had a 2018 and traded it in with 130k on it. This is a 23. I love this car!
Love the Harry Quinn.
I cant wait to learn more about that bike!
great video! love these!
Interesting. I've never heard of that builder. Of course being on this side of the pond I haven't seen a lot! LOL
This video reminds me of a kid on Christmas Day I knew very well.
It was very Christmasy! LOL
Top video, John. Thanks for your thoughts & sharing.
Wow, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
Driving down the highway with a bunch of cash and all I'm worried about is that you don't get stopped by the police. What a mixed up world we are living in at the moment. Great collection from a great guy.
LOL. I'm not much of a cop magnet!.. I look like Ned Flandors with a bad hair cut! Its a crazy world!
Wow, what a treasure trove. Good luck!
Crazy right!
Bravo!
Magnifique vidéo
❤❤
Great info! thanks
If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for the Gios bike I have a Gios compact in excellent condition
I cant reveal that. I purchased the parts and bikes in one bundle. I couldn't separate it out.
Very nice collection you've acquired
Thanks so much!
Ive never been to the UK. Are vintage bikes popular there? Glad to see someone younger getting into the hobby/sport!
Awesome video I'm from Liverpool UK I think Harry Quin was a builder local to me 👍
Yes he was! I haven't really spent any time yet checking that one out. I'll get to it very soon! Thanks for watching
Wow John, & I'm certain Greg Brooks would approve........Aust.
Thank you!
Beautiful bikes but such a sad story. Lovely to see the Harry Quinn bike, I regularly drive by the store here in Liverpool, which is still going strong.
Interesting!! I haven't put it on the rack yet. I have a lot of research to do! Thanks
Here in the UK the "Curly " Hetchins frames are still highly prized.
So beautiful. . ❤❤❤❤❤😮😮
A touching sentiment to the man. A deep-dive into who he was.
Unboxing all those components was like Christmas morning.
So… what’s for sale? I need:
XL clips & straps
165mm Nuovo Record arms & spider
Record gum hoods
27.2 nuovo record post
32h Record hubs
Sorry sir, keeping it all. Don't have the cranks
Lucky guy!
Thanks. very blessed.
Beautiful video. Really enjoyed it and happy birthday, mine's not too far away either.
Very nice Cannondale behind you too.
Maybe try (try!) to give away some of your treasured bikes to friends n family?
Here is a video on that Cannondale ruclips.net/video/1tcYZllEYcI/видео.html
I have given away a couple bikes in the past for sure. Thanks for watching
