If you are a certified teacher, no matter the language, you can then join Preply as they are looking for more tutors. Apply here: preplytutors.pxf.io/preplytutor

    Thank you for sharing, Martin.
I'm also on Preply and often panic as bits and pieces take lots of time to download. My notes disappear each time I close the Notes dialogue, the calendar takes ages to materialise on the screen, etc.
You kept calm and remained in control as you waited for the document to load in the whiteboard.
    Such a great example!

Preply has great tools but the functionality can be so problematic.
Quite often the activities will not show for learners unless there's a refresh or you redo the process.

@@kakashi2801 I love the platform and all it has to offer, but I wonder whether this is also its Achilles' heel. There's so much going on at once.

Hi Martin, this is super super useful. Thanks for sharing. I'm a preply teacher and your videos help me so much. i'm very very grateful. I was wondering if you could do a video about your flipped classroom approach. This is what I do mostly. Please show how you use class time and what kind of resources you send students for self study. Would you have sent this type of lesson to the student for self study before class? or is this not so suitable.. and when using this flipped approach do you always have a google doc open and take notes like you did here? your note taking skills are excellent. I struggle to listen properly and take notes properly. so I just tend to jot words to teach them and send in the chat box but i think i'd like to transition to your approach. Thanks again!

I am your Fan Number One. Besides teaching English for more than 20 years (not online) I am a writer (10 books at Amazon)...and a translator too. I have not yet started my trial lesson and now after watching your video finally I understand how this goes. Meanwhile I am studying all Preply courses. I think that Preply could provide (for new tutors as myself) practical lessons to understand better its Virtual Online System. I understand that using Preply virtual classroom I may add my own material right? I got a question: What happens if I am in class and then my pc stops working..no wifi..as usually happens in my country Venezuela..

Hello Maya, thank you ever so much for commenting on my videos and for all the support. In terms of technical issues, I would recommend that you perhaps use your mobile phone as a possible connection to the internet using the data (4g/5g). When I taught in the UK, my internet went down and I had to use my mobile phone's data to connect to the internet. It was useful and possibly an alternative when your internet goes down.

Martin, I have a question: do you assign homework to your students?
I create homework for all of mine, but it takes time to come up with assignments, and sometimes I feel tired doing this extra work. However, I think it's part of my job, and homework helps students progress much faster. I enjoy seeing my students improve.
    What's your take on homework?

That's a great point. I usually send students some homework, or what I like to call it 'self-study' tasks. I ask them to complete it and then we review their work together but some of my students prefer to turn up and complete activities with me, such as the student that I had in this video. Personally, I like to flip the lesson; get students to complete all the listening, grammar, writing, and vocabulary exercises and then we check their answers and focus solely on conversation and scaffolding language.

Can you download the worksheet to the Preply whiteboard before the lesson begins Martin or is that not possible? I’m not very familiar with using the whiteboard on Preply but would like to start.

Yes, you can. I was just in such a rush that I left it to the last minute and could have uploaded it well before the student arrived. After the lesson, you can also download the lesson and send it to the student with all your annotations too.
