Absolutely love these. Have been a Woody fan from his beginning as a stand up. What a genius. That word is used too loosely today, but he truly is a genius of writing and film. Believe he will go down as the greatest filmmaker ever.
“A friend of a friend” told me that his friend was in the film but often spent time with Madeline Kahn waiting for script/scene changes. Kahn was allegedly playing a ringmaster in a circus. I doubt we’ll ever see edited film performances from her but I’ve never read or discovered that she was actually cut from the film. Anyone know whether it’s true or not?
Woody Kafka meets Franz Allen in shadows and fog......great film!

This might be my favourite Woody film
Mine too. I come back to it a lot.
It has an unparalleled atmosphere!
I found this in a one buck bin at the dollar tree store and buy every copy i see there to pass out to friends.
The piece that Shadows and Fog is based on is a play, not a short story.
I just love this film!❤
I had no clue this was based on that short story and I read that book before seeing the film

I've always thought this one to be an allegory on the rise of fascism in Europe... Wonder why :/
A diamont
One of Woody's better films, although as much as I appreciate when atmosphere, it's not one I like to revisit too often. It's pretty bleak...
All I want to know is: did Danny Elfman actually compose the score?
no the score is made up of parts of Kurt Weill’s Threepenny Opera
