Part of the collection of 5 short films filmed in 2010 that follow renowned Fell Pony Breeders in and around the Howell Fells and give an insight into their experiences of breeding semi-feral herds on the open fell.
The films document a traditional way of breeding and managing Fell Ponies that is endangered by the changing patterns of farming. landscape and society.

Lovely video, thanks for making and sharing. Great fella, my first fell pony came from Bill at 4 years old and was still going strong looking adter children till she was 33years old

That way of breaking is ridiculous, it's forcing the poor thing. I had mine handled from about six months, they would stand tied up from about ten months, harness about a year, and walking in hand all over the place from a year old .

Yeah, like why are all these ponies so wild and skittish? Many better ways to gentle an unhandled yearling and teach them to lead properly 🙄
